Who is Buffy Meant To Be with?

She definitely needs to go out either by herself or with the scoobies, I'd be really annoyed if she was with ANYONE in the end. 😀 I think it's important that, as a hero, she never really keeps a romantic interest. Either she only has herself, or she has her best friends from the start, both of which convey important messages. 🙂

Hmmm......just curious but what do you think are the important messages? By being alone she's showing she's a strong independent woman that doesn't need a man? I get that, but doesn't everyone deserve to be with the person they love, to not have to be alone in the end?

I can't believe I'm doing this but... I'm going to quote Spiderman 2

May Parker - We need a hero, couragous sacrificing people, setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero, people line up for 'em, cheer for them, scream their names, and years later tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who told them to HOLD ON a second longer. I believe theres a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble. And finally gets us to die with pride. Even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want most, even our dreams.

This brings a tear to my eye when I watch that film & is a GREAT analysis of what it means to be a hero. Buffy is a hero. She doesn't get what she wants, sorry but she sacrifices that part of life so that everyone else can have it. That is the noble tragedy of the hero. Take I Will Remember You as an object lesson in that very idea. Heroes aren't heroes because they fight evil or run into burning buildings, THIS is the reason we give them that name & why we'll "stand in the rain for hours", THIS is why they fight & THIS is why we love them.

I soppose i know this....guess I'm just too much of a hopeless romantic!
I'd have to go with Xander myself. He's been with her from the start and has always admired her (and isn't afraid to tell her off when she does something stupid). Bangel might have had the most passion out of all the relationships but I've always attributed that to Buffy's youth/him being her first love.

Buffy ♥ Spike

I used to believe that the romance between Buffy and Angel was one of a kind, that they were destined to be together until the day Buffy died, however the relationship didn't do any good for Buffy and she then went on to have a rebound relationship with Riley, in both relationships she came across as the weak willed one, always forlorn and a slave to love, but with Spike she seemed to find herself, her inner beast perhaps, he gave her things no other had and he died to save her and the potential slayers....obviously being dead didn't last long, but thats a pattern with both Spike and Buffy isn't it, nothing can keep them down, I will forever believe that for all his faults Spike is Buffys true love, their volatile relationship made for fantastic viewing but also really drew you in, I don't know about the rest of you but in those final episodes of Buffy when you saw them getting closer again, it just brought a smile to my lips and whilst Buffy believes she's cookie dough I believe her and Spike are soul mates and that with him she's fully baked. lol:cool2:

Angel, there is something b/w them that never went away, plus, reading the hints from S8, I think Joss might agree too.

Riley and Spike were great for her, but she never let them in, until the last moment with Spike, though.

I can't believe I never posted on this thread.

I don't know who Buffy is meant to be with. Maybe someone we've not met yet. Between Angel and Spike, definitely Spike. when Angel and Buffy were together they were either ridiculously sappy (she was immature, inexperienced teenager), or miserable. I don't see why so many people think they had this great love. On my 2nd time through the series, it was pure torture watching them together. And I DO like Angel. Just not with Buffy. And I don't like Buffy with Angel either. They make each other unhappy, unfulfilled, miserable. Why people think this is meant to be is totally beyond me. Over time they grew apart, with Angel being far away. They both loved other people.

Spike and Buffy truly evolved together. He got a freakin' soul for her. Together, they're funny and amusing and even happy at times (which is really saying something since Joss apparently hates happy coupledom). They went from enemies to reluctant co-workers (for lack of a better word) to lovers in an unhealthy relationship to friends with deep feelings for each other. They went through a lot together and unlike with Angel, it brought them closer and closer, not further apart.

In my heart though, I don't see Joss ending the series with Buffy living happily ever after. It's just not his style.

I guess I should post here....you could call my a Bangler I've loved the Angel/Buffy relationship since she first kicked him in the head...but I love spike too it was just a different kind of love there(like others have said in this thread) So after a long time thinking about this I suppose I'm going to have to sign up as a Bangel fan

If we're asking "Who is Buffy meant to be with?" I think the comics have answered Angel, but a better question I think is "Who do you want to see Buffy with?" I'd probably still say Angel, but I wouldn't mind seeing her with Xander, Spike, or even someone new.

The way I see it when the series started, it introduced a couple that could never be (Angel & Buffy) and it really was something...

Few couples in the history of both cinema and tv have made such an impact. The theme was copied many times (I mean Twilight Saga... come on now... total ripoff) but it couldn't be matched.

So yes, I think Buffy and Angel is the greatest combination of them all. I truly like Spike, no arguments there, but the whole Spike & Buffy theme is like a rerun of the authentic Bangel theme. I think Josh Whedon pretty much admitted so himself.

Spike. He fell in love with her without a soul, and all Angelus wanted was to hurt and kill Buffy when he lost his soul. And Spike never left Sunnydale until, of course it got blowed up. 🙁

Speaking from Buffy's POW, woman will never make up her mind.

I don't want Buffy to end up with anyone.

Buffy's relationship with Angel, although a bit melodramatic, was fine for who Buffy was at the time. Because Angel was her first love, Buffy will always remember him fondly. Bangel will always be larger than life.

Buffy's relationship with Spike was raw, down-to-earth. Buffy sought out Spike's company when she was going through hell. Although their relationship was abusive, I believe Buffy needed someone to lean on during her depression, someone who loved her, but wouldn't judge. She found that in Spike. Through Spuffy, Buffy was able to find herself and Spike found redemption. But, I'm glad their over. Buffy and Spike worked okay as a couple then, but I don't think I'd like them together now.

I know Buffy's "cookie dough" speech was cheesy, but I think its true for her character. I still think Buffy is trying to discover who she is (see Batsu), and when she does the person she dates will be right for her. As of now, I don't think it's anybody.

Side note: One other reason I won't get into fights about who Buffy should end up with, is on the show whenever Buffy got a new boyfriend they'd steal all the screentime from everyone else. ( IMHO, it got a bit boring after a few eps.)

Who is Buffy meant to be with? Well, if the universe gets its way, she'll be with Angel, (dumbass universe) but if I get my way, she'll find a way to make it work with Spike. They've gone through the end of the world and backwards together. Their relationship in S6 is really just abusive but by S7 it's love. And they went through so much together and did so much for each other I just can't see them not together.

Aahh that kick in the head. Priceless.

Of course, Angel. He is her soul mate after all and their hearts (Angel has a heart just not a beating one) run on the same track and two souls couldn't be more right for each other. Together they are a powerful force to reckon with and they fight as fiercely as they love. I can't see either of them without the other.

Hard to argue with that logic 😛 I want to know what it is about Buffy that makes her fall in love with the things she's supposed to be removing from existence. Okay, Angel has a soul and is arguably less evil than other vampires, but Spike didn't have a soul until season 7. Not very professional for a slayer to fall in love with vampires, you wouldn't want a firefighter who was also a pyromaniac. So maybe she was meant to be with someone nice and human, like Riley. Riley was great for a while.

Buffy has the ability to see good even in the darkest of evil places....she has to see this otherwise she couldn't be the slayer. She keeps fighting for that good, fighting to find even the smallest hope of good. She sees the good in both Angel and Spike and makes significant impacts on both, I think for the better. Sometimes the edges of good and evil blur...and make it difficult to make the right choices. Unfortunately, Riley could never understand the reality of Buffy's role as a slayer the way Angel or Spike could. They're "evil' allowed them an upper hand on how to combat the bad guys in a similar way to how Buffy would come to understand evil. Somtimes nice guys do finish last!

Who is Buffy Meant To Be with

Angel understood Buffy as the slayer because he tried slaying vampires himself before Buffy met him.

When it comes down to it, the only person that can truly understand Buffy's slayerness is Faith. Even from a non-shippy perspective, nobody understands what being a slayer is like other than another slayer.

Well, there are about 2000 other Slayers now so it's not *just* Faith. Though I do love Fuffy!
