Who was the true slayer?

i think buffy is THE SLAYER as is Faith and so was Kendra, Kendra dies Faith became one... there is two slayers... they are both are as good as each other it is just the fact faith went evil for a while... but i think buffy is the slayer as faith left the show and yeah but i like them both on the same level they both have qualities i like and dislike

i agree with Wanabee Slayer here. doppelganger buffy IS perfectly stable at the end of things.

I have to gladly disagree with you. One thing is wanting Buffy to be perfect because she is "the" slayer and the show is after all called BUFFY the vampire slayer and blaaha blaahaa and then there is totally ignoring what is so utterly obvious in season 6 and 7; Buffy is losing it. The thing is that she is so very stubborn and also so very strong that she tries her best to keep it together and continue with her life, but it still shines through. So very very much.

Yeah. I don't think anyone would say that Faith (or Kendra) were more suited as a slayer than Buffy, but Buffy clearly had her moments of not being the perfect and stable slayer. She had moments of not wanting to be a slayer at all (very understandable, but still), and she had longer moments – like almost whole of season 6 – when she was just (to quote my dear Fran) losing it. I like Buffy, I like her as a slayer and as a character but please, if Buffy was perfectly stable BtVS would be a very uninteresting show to watch. The thing that makes BtVS the awesomely cool and fascinating show that we all love, is in my opinion the fact that Buffy is so messed up and unstable a lot of the time..

You're right. Buffy was not completely stable throughout the entire series. There are times where she is in total control, and then, more times than not, she is not in control. I think that Buffy had a better head on her shoulders than others.

I do still believe that her actions at the end of season seven were completely necessary. She was passionate about what she believed was right or wrong.

Yet, there are times where I watch season seven, and the last couple of episodes, as much as I hate to admit it, Faith did have control and was thinking clearly. It's hard to justify sometimes that IMO Buffy is the true/original slayer. But I still do.

Hey, Wannabee slayer, I'm not saying it IS true, but I thought Buffy went to hell? Anyway:

I think, in my mind, that there is now way I could decide. I mean, literally, look at it this way....

Buffy was around knowing this and that about vampires and demons. And she was always fighting them so well, but then came along Faith, who does the job so well that in fact, could be as good, maybe better, than Buffy.

And so yes, I think that there really isn't a choose between those two women.

It is examining one's inner demons

Well it is simple why Faith was more centered when she came back to Sunnydale with Willow. She had come to grips with past actions why she did the things that she did and made the choices that she did.

Now that the pressure is off Buffy can look inside of herself and come to grips with her inner turmoil. Has she yet.

So far all we have seen is her getting involved with the immortal. Now with her and the immortal track records it won't last long. That person tends to get bored easily and Buffy wants someone for the long term.

Faith comes out on top

A true slayer would be one who lives more closely to the tradition of the slayer. One who understands what is to be a slayer. One who doesn't deny that is the slayer.

Faith understood what meant to be the slayer. She never deny being the slayer.

Hmm. I'd have to disagree with you on this one. While I like how you gave an adequate reason as to what a 'true slayer' means to you, I don't agree. You can understand what being a slayer really means, but still be upset and think/wish that you weren't the slayer. I would imagine it happening with every slayer. Honestly, what girl would think "I'm a slayer with an expected life span, but it doesn't bother me?"

I agree that Faith never denied being a slayer as we saw on the show. Yet, we don't know her intial reaction from when she found out. And, one thing that she has against her is this: while she never denied being the slayer, she was rogue for a very long time. This causes some friction in your argument.

Basically, the first slayer was probably the 'true slayer'.

I would say neither. But, Faith, She actually was good as Buffy, and she understood what it meant to be a slayer. She slayed all the time, and worked hard.

........

But then, there's Buffy. She didn't mind being a slayer. She was good, and knew what to do. Both were ok.

So I agree with SpikedBuffy. The first slayer was the "true slayer".

How would you handle the hauntings

You brought up that the first slayer would be the true slayer. According to tradition the first slayer exists in all slayers. We only saw that Buffy was plagued by those "visitations". Even before the group cast that spell in order to defeat Adam.

Faith could have been plagued by similar hauntings. May be only reason she went rogue. Yes perhaps she had problems adjusting to being a slayer at first. Anyone would. However Buffy consistently wished to turn away from what she was.

i believe anyone who is a slayer is a true slayer...all of them have the powers of a slayer...

Well, that could sum it up nicely also. And plus, now that the slayer line has ultimately been changed (by Willow's spell in "Chosen"), there really isn't a true slayer is there? All of the slayers are now activated, no matter what.

It wasn't an accident that any one slayers was called.
There isn't a true slayer.

Buffy is a slayer. But when she died the slayer line pasted to Kendra.
Then when Kendra died the slayer line pasted on to Faith.
