But Angel is obviously not making money. If it was, they wouldn't cancel it.
Cancelling shows you can't sell advertising on is good business.
I'm glad you brought that up Buffy, because there's something I've been curious about. I know you study the trades, so you're the person to ask.
I remember reading a post in the Why We Fight forum. It concerned people who were writing the sponsors, and telling them to complain to the WB about the Angel cancelation.
One person received what appeared to be a form letter from a sponsor explaining how the sponsors had no control over what shows were shown. They claimed they bought TV time in blocks, and didn't even know what shows their advertisements were going to be on.
Now, I have no more love for advertisers than I do for the WB, so I don't necessarily swallow what they're feeding, but I'd like to ask you, "What is the truth, there?"
I don't think I believe the advertisers here, nevertheless this "We can't get advertisers interested" line we're hearing from Warner Brothers, sounds like nothing more than their excuse of the week.
Isn't the the most sought after demographic amongst advertisers the 18 to 34 group. Haven't the ratings for that demograhic been rising for Angel since last season? In fact isn't the 18 to 34
male group disappearing from television in general, yet rising in Angel? Aren't the the 18 to 34 ratings falling in shows still with the WB like Everwood and Charmed? Isn't Angel the number 2 rated show of viewers 18 to 34 on the WB?
If the answer to any 2 of those questions is yes, please explain to me why advertisers wouldn't be interested in Angel. Why would they prefer to take a chance on an unproven product like Dark Shadows?
