Fray - what actress would play her?

I'm not sure where to post this. I thought about "Other", "Caritas", "Writers Den", and "Inside Out". If this is in the wrong place, please move it lol.

I'm doing my own season 8 and for an episode the comic book character "Fray" will be appearing. I need an actress to play her, but I'm not sure who would really look like her.

First, here's a picture of Fray. Meleka Fray Meleka Fray is THE Vampire Slayer in the year 2500. Fray is a comic book series made by Joss WHedon that is worth the read.

I thought about "Rose McGowan", "Carly Pope", and "Neve Campbell" to play her.

The good people at Buffy-Boards have never lead me wrong. Which actress do you think should play her?
 
I've thought about this before. In fact one time in inside out I tried to cast the whole of Fray. (Can you believe Arnold Schwarznegger as Urkon?)

Melaka is the toughest to cast - although wait a minute there's Loo.

Anyway Melaka has to be tough (Eliza's to old). Lean (That knocks out my second choice: the actress who plays Kennedy), with heart, and the actress should be talented enough to show the depth of Melaka's character. If only Jessica Alba was 17 again.
 
I always saw Scarlet Johansen (Lost In Transalation, The Perfect Score) as a good choice for Mel, she's got that vulnerable but still can be a badass when she wants to vibe to her.
 
Oh yeah right, Scarlet Johansen, why didn't I think of that. Dye her hair black, give her a scar, a shoulder tatoo, and she's good to go. She'd be perfect.
 
nerd4hire - its not gunna be anyone we've seen on Buffy because that would be confusing.

The lead actress from the movie Run Lola Run would be perfect. She's the only one I can think of who would do the part justice.
 
Allow me to expand on my choice for Scarlet Johansen, more or less it is because A) Joss said he envisioned Fray looking like a real girl, no big boobs and not "overly" curvacious like most comic superheroines. And the art of the comic really touches on that. If you look at Johansen, she has a very "real" body, not overly big in certain areas, but still very attractive. And I just think she would play the role perfectly as opposed to Alba or any other Dushku clone.

Oh and N4H, how about Michael Clark Duncan as Urkon? He's got the size and the acting ability.
 
Scarlett Johansen looks too innocent IMO. Besides, her nose isn't right.

The thing is Johansen is an excellent actress. Check out Charlize Theron in Monster to see what a real actress can do about losing innocence. Hero would have to do some major photoshopping though.

As far as the nose goes, check out Buffy's nose. It could be a slayer thing.

Michael Clark Duncan as Urkon - absolutely. You're on a roll Hostile 17. Now try the real challenge - Loo.
 
Well, I've never scene any movies with her in them, and I don't know how to do photoshopping, but it's not like I have too. I can put a picture of her somewhere, but it doesn't need to be altered or anything like that. It could be a media thing. Maybe I should make a poll or something. Or well, I could leave the thread open cuz the episode won't come out for another 2 weeks and see what other people think. at a Fray website (www.bigcitygirl.com) they tried to do a casting thing.
 
A) Don't think the nose being all wrong has anything to do with it. There have been many actresses who don't look that much like the character they are supposed to play.
B) A good actress can play any role, be it innocent or a bad ass thief. And Johansen is a good actress. And that innocent look can change with facial expressions and make up and of course the hair color change and the wardrobe.

N4H: Loo is particurarly first because you would need a child actor and second because you need a GOOD child actor who could play a cripple. And the problem with casting child actors is that they are always growing up. So answer your question, Haley Joel Osmont in a wig with an arm chopped off.
 
I'm gunna make a poll. That way we can all vote, cuz I'm getting lots of different people and I can't deside. I like what you're saying about Scarlet though.
 
In the previous thread I gathered actresses that were submitted by members of Buffy-Boards. There's a few to choose from, and since it's a decission I'm leaving up to Buffy-Boards, now you get to vote.

Which actress should play Meleka Fray?

I went for Jessica Alba - just think she'd be right. I was also going to suggest Jennifer Garner but I think she'd cost you too much as she seems to be A-list now😉
 
I think that Scarlett would be good, but has anyone thought about Fairuza Balk?
