As in the big death poll, I know we've been discussing this ad nauseum, but thought it'd be interesting in a poll form.

I'm much less clear on these choices, but I've eliminated Angel (because really, how much worse can he get? I can't believe I just typed that!) and Spike (because it appears that he gets badly injured based on the #39 preview).

So my guesses are:
-Willow
-Xander
-Giles and/or Faith

If you have anybody else you'd like to add, let me know.

I would say Xander because of the preview but Dander is supposed to be in season 9 so I don't know how that would work. Faith I can't see that happening. I will be ridiculously pissed if it is. It wouldn't even make sense. Giles seems to sadly be the best candidate in my opinion.
 
Well Giles and a rather huge betrayal of some kind has been brewing for a LONG time. Actually, I think Giles. Like I feel like Xander might be who they WANT us to think it is, and then Giles will look like it "came out of nowhere." hm....
 
Voted Xander. Mostly because I'm okay with it, it would add Xander a major depth than he has right now. It would be interesting to see it, it'd be a nice change for him.
 
Voted for Xander, I actually hope it's Xander or Willow, as long as it's not Giles.
Please don't let it be Giles..
 
I think Giles. He's kept a lot of info on the Twilight Prophecy and other things from them in the past, and now the repeat "unlikely alliances" panel in the preview seems like the next page will be the reveal. And even though Giles technically betrayed Buffy in Season 7, I think considering his noble motivations in 'Lies My Parents Told Me' and the fact that he's pretty much worked his way back into the fold already, he could be due for a betrayal. And it seems like the Xander/Army thing in #38 is just too obvious, you know?
 
From a story telling point of view, I hope it's Xander, because I feel that, right now, that would be the worst betrayal, because he and Buffy have grown even closer than they were before and over the course of S8. Plus, he has good reason to, too. But I think it's going to be Willow, her excuse being that she's possessed/influenced/controlled/whatever by the Seed. *yawns*
 
I´m going with Willow. She will protect the seed at all costs and i´m not sure it´s a bad thing but i have a bad feeling. Destroying the seed would end all magic and Willow is still a witch. A very powerful witch i might add but somehow she seems corrupted by the seed or under a thrall or whatever.
 
I say Spike; only truly unlikely person to "betray" Buffy storywise. This isn't based on anything other than what they've hinted at and the fact that Spike's new role as exposition man is a little dubious at best.

What interest me is I haven't seen much of what the powers take on this is; so perhaps Spike has been officially tapped as their champion; something like that.

Not what I'm hoping for mind you but it would be the only interesting development at this point.

Spike is seriously wounded. I don´t think he can betray anyone at this point.

The more I think about this the less I think anybody can actually be the betrayer, I mean from what we have seen it's just a matter of opinion on how best to save the world. How can you really betray something if you do what you believe is best? I mean doing what Buffy says after her role in this whole mess, I'm not sure that would be a smart thing to do and obviously Willow have her own reasons for protecting the seed that might not be in the best interest of the planet.

But lets face it the one that does the betraying is going to get a hard time in the show even though that probably isn't as terrible as what Angel has been up to and that he gets a pass on.
 
Honestly? I have no idea. *sigh* All this speculating is giving me a headache. And if we've learned anything from this season, nothing is ever what it seems. Joss is going to keep throwing us these curveballs.

I voted Giles, anyway. He's not trustworthy, and it makes the most sense he be the betrayer.

I'd absolutely die if it was Xander. Him and Buffy's friendship is one of my favorite aspects of this series. I'd be devastated.

I don't even want to think about it being Spike. No way. That can't happen. Spike would NEVER betray Buffy. They would be like, the biggest out-of-character moment ever for him.

As for Willow, I couldn't care less about her character, but Buffy's reaction is what I'd be worried about. They're not as close as they used to be, but Willow is still Buffy's right-hand girl. Ir's be a horrific blow to Buffy.

I guess we just have to sit back, eat our Wheaties, and be patient.

I was suspicious about the whole Spike showing up out of nowhere thing too, (and let's face it, I'm always suspicious of Joss when it comes to my favorite characters) but story-wise, they've been building this thing up for four years. They've *just* brought Spike back in the last few issues. I don't think they're going to end it with it being all about Spike.

And hm, I thought the whole "captain of his own ship" thing was also a bit metaphorical- sort of a screw you to the PTB/concept of destiny and a contrast to Twangel. I'm pretty sure Spike's just the outsider on this whole Twilight issue. I'd be very, very surprised if he really did turn out to be the betrayer.
