Although I also sort of agree with the people who pointed out that Life was the Big Bad, however, I think it was just A big bad, just a theme throughout the season. Because, eventually, everything led to Willow in the end: the magic abuse, Tara leaving, Warren killing Tara and the general miserableness of everyone, which she couldn't handle. So life was bad, because it led to Willow becoming the real Big Bad. Or, that's at least how I view it.

Yeah, it says in the season 6 featurette thingy that "life" was the Big Bad of that season - just being an adult and the responsibility that comes with that 🙂

I don't think there was one designated Big Bad at all. There were so many conflicts going on in this season that it seemed every character had their own Big Bad to deal with. I was going to say Willow at first but realized she really wasn't bad at all, just very conflicted and troubled in the last couple episodes. There were many different "baddies" to deal with and I think that's what made season 6 so great. There wasn't just one story to think of, but many.

I rewatched the final episodes of 6 last night.
At the end of OMWF, they sing Where do we go...and have that scene where they hold hands for a second then drop them and sing about walking alone in fear. I think fear is the big bad.
Not just life, which they've proven they can handle when they work together, but fear.
Just before Anya and Spike make contact, she confesses that the real issue is her fear that Xander never wanted her the way she wanted him.
And Willow is afraid there in nothing in her, but the wonder that Tara alone saw and made her feel.
And Dawn is afraid everyone is leaving her, to the point of pushing them away when they WANT to be with her, when they ARE with her.
And Giles leaves because he's afraid Buffy will depend on him too much.
And Xander stops the marriage because he's afraid of who he will become.
They are actually doing an OK job living, getting along, but their fears cripple them, not life, but their fear of what it might be. They even brought Buffy back due to fear, that they couldn't manage without her.
If they could get past that, work together, support one another it would all be ok, but fear gets in the way and they all fall apart.

The big bad in S6 was themselves. Everyone was going through a dark phase in their life during the season.
In my opinion, Willow is without a doubt this season's big bad. Or you might say, she's the ultimate example of what this season always stood for; life and the troubles that come along with it.
In previous seasons, big bads would already make their first appearance in one of the first episodes of the season. Only to meet their demise in the last episode (season 4 not included). In my opinion, we've seen Willow become more and more powerful and dangerous throughout the season. We were lead to believe she had changed and quit cold turkey with the magic. But it was a no-brainer to realise what would happen.
I also agree with life being season 6's bigbad, but Willow going evil is the ultimate result of that. Someone so pure and full of life, turning against the forces of good. The way I see it, Willow's definatly the seasonal big bad. Not the trio, they were a laugh.

I think that the Trio were the minor villains - like Spike and Drusilla in Season 2; Maggie Walsh in Season 4; and Faith in Season 3. Or Caleb in Season 7.

I like the storyline that 'humans' make troubles but the trio doesnt have supernatural power to create a 'big bad' season finale. That's why it had to be Dark Willow and maybe that's why they killed Tara. 🙁
I agree! Season six was different. There is no big bad like Glory for example, but... we have Buffy's breakdown, Willow's dark side, Xanders and Anyas story, Down (kletpomania, feeling lonely), and so go on...
That's life- the worst big bad!
