Why didn’t Spike tell Buffy he was alive?

In Angel season 5, why do you think Spike didn’t tell Buffy he was alive? I’m looking for why the character acted that way, not the off camera reasons they did that.

🙂

I know you say stick to in character but It's a bit inconsistent all the same. In Damage he tells Andrew not to tell Buffy but in That Girl in Question he has no problem or issues flying to Italy and helping Buffy and obviously her knowing about it.

The Bryan Lynch comic does it best. He tells Willow not to tell Buffy because he's helping people/building a life without her and doesn't want it to be because of her.

In S8 the meet up is a but of a let down anyway. Buffy fantasies about having sex with Spike, he provides some exposition and well that's pretty much it.

I base this on his attitude towards Angel in the final scene in 'Damage'; 'newsflash Uhura, check the view screen, I've got- however many slayers- none of which have ever dated you'
That's straight up contempt for Angel right there, that attitude. There's a good reason why many fans say that this scene/dialogue should've been said by Xander or that Andrew is simply being a mouthpiece/stand-in for Giles, not Buffy. Andrew's hostility is obvious.

Plus Andrew hangs around with aforementioned Xander and Giles who've informed him of their not-very-high opinion of Angel. Plus Angel is currently the 'evil/untrustworthy' boss of LA W&H. Plus Andrew is avidly 'Team Spike', so yeah, 'detest' in my view.
It's a stand off. He would have given Spike and anyone else on Team Angel the same treatment. And he doesn't know Angel. It isn't personal. He is doing a job, working as an agent for someone else, supposedly Buffy.

Well, maybe, but I doubt he'd be so cold and dismissive to his crush, Spike.
It seems clear to me that he has a crappy opinion of Angel and he makes it very personal by bringing up Buffy.

And he doesn't know Angel.

lol When has that ever stopped Andrew having an opinion on anybody? Andrew just makes stuff up, romanticizes everybody he meets throughout S7. He gives Faith a friggin' montage before ever interacting with her.

Anyway, this is getting off-topic. Basically its clear that Andrew treats Spike differently than most other people, so that being the case he would tell him the truth. It's probably why Spike turns up to help Buffy in S8.
