Why do ppl think its weird when boys(or people for that matter) watch btvs?

I have a friend equally to my love of Buffy... she knows all the quotes and I anwser the stupid questions. It is a win-win partnership. Now... the people at school think it is the dumbest show ever when they never watch the show. Do I have to tie you to a chair the watch it. My sisters make fun of it. My mom made me very mad the other day... she was laughing at me... So what. I love the show. Oh well. forget about and watch more then 10 mins before you call it stupid.
 
I was talking to my friend the other day and we were wondering what movie to watch. He brought up a title and then said, and I quote: "Well, you probably wouldn't like it. It's not about a little girl killing things."

I swear I wanted to stab him with a pen ... I was annoyed. 🙄
 
We all know that Buffy is not a corny show. But when I'm trying to explain everything to my friends when they're watching a Buffy episode with me, it comes out cheesy. I mean, if someone told me that the main character of this show died twice and came back, I'd view Buffy as very unrealistic, which is the exact opposites of the theme of the show. Even though the show was (I want to say "is," but I can't anymore *tear*) about life, some people can't see past the vampires and destruction. My friend thinks that Buffy is too violent and graphic after watching certain parts of the show (she was hooked once right along with me at the beginning of my Buffy obsession, but lost interest) and the guy who sits next to me in math class thinks Buffy "is so fake" and it's only about a girl fighting vampires.

One of my best friends actually turned to me when we were watching an action movie with some gruesome scenes and said, "I don't like all that bloodshed and graphic scenes, but you're probably used to it, huh?" Grr. Argh.

I pull out an Angel book in class and people around me just roll their eyes. The closest Buffy fan around isn't even near as obsessive as I am. I feel so alone...

The people who are a bit more harsh usually scream "I don't care!" in my face or say, "God, will you ever stop talking about that stupid show?" What's so stupid about it? People shuld give Buffy a chance and watch at least four or five episodes before they make their judgements.

It's okay. I got him back when I called Natalie Portman ugly and washed up. He loves that woman. I didn't mean it, but anything to get him back for dissing my show. 😀
 
I would actually think I'm pretty lucky as far as my friends are concerned. One of them was a big Buffy Fan but due to well i dunno she has kind of lost interest. At the start em and her would sit and talk about it for ages being the nerds that we proudly are and all our friend would roll their eyes but because of us going on and on about it 3 of our other friends went home and watched it to see what the hell we were raving and talking about and through it they got hooked to. They still think I'm wierd cos I have all the dvds and watch episodes over and over, they would watch it on tv and thats it but they put up with me and when I start talking about something random about an episode they just look at each other roll their eyes and say 'Have you stopped listening to'. I've learnt through time to keep my little buffy sidenotes to myself. Some people think I'm a bit wierd for liking it though. i remember a friend of mine sent me a christmas card a couple of years ago that said 'You are one of the nicest, funniest people I have ever met but do have to watch that bloody Buffy?'. Guess that sums it up but my close friends are tolerant. Downside to them watching the show is that when I try to insert quotes into conversation and make myself sound witty they all know I stole it 🙁.

If people don't like the show, convert them. Thats my philosphy. I spent an entire year of Maths classes explaining to a friend the back story to the first 5 seasons of Buffy and who all the characters are as she starting watching in Season 6. Ahh all us geeks will provail someday...
 
I've talked about Buffy in class, told the guy who sits behind me in math class about "The Gift" (I'd basically recited the whole episode), and told the girl who sits next to me in advisory the whole entire history of B/A. It doesn't work. They don't just start watching Buffy. Last year, my friends and I were sitting around watching TV when BUFFY came on. It was "The Freshman" and all through the episode, I was doing commentary on it. My friends just sort of put up with it. This year, before I got the S5 DVD, I was counting down the days till the day I got it and everyone rolled their eyes and one of my friends had a sarcastic enthusiasm when I talked about it. No one gets BUFFY.

Unlike your friends, Jonut, my friends won't put up with it after all my years of BUFFY-talk.
 
Yes, I too was telling my friend about the history of B/A, but she was giggling through it all, not really getting the beauty of it....

The wierd thing is, she really likes "Charmed" and sometimes watched "Angel", SO WHY WON'T SHE WATCH buFfy!
 
Recently one of my classmates got into Buffy from the middle of s2..It's hard for her to get what had happened before,but she just adores Xander....My best friend can listen to me talking bout it,but she's not enthusiastic...
 
I get ya'll. Nobody around here likes buffy all that much. It's always "God, that is FAKE"or "How dumb. A girl fighting vampires."or"My GOD! Shut up about it". You know, it kinda changes the way u think about everything. The charaters are realistic even if the story isn't. They have feelings and they have problems. We should have a Buffy Rally or something, lol.
 
I think people think it's weird because they don't have any real sense of the show. They just look at the title and go, "Oh, cute little girls beating up imaginary creatures. Waste of time." They assume it's kind of childish and repetitive; they don't stop and take a look at the storylines or the characters and see how it goes beyond killing vampires.
 
I recently found out one of my best friends watches Buffy, but we've never talked about it before. I dont think she's obsessed like all of us on the board! I scare people who dont know the titles of episodes.
But one time in math in 7th grade (three years ago), someone in my class randomly said that I remind them of Buffy, and then we got this whole discussion relating me to Buffy. That was probably the best class ever.
 
Same goes for me - pretty much everyone laughs at me when they find out how into Buffy I am. It's wicked annoying, but I'm getting better at just ignoring them because I realize we Buffy fans are just insanely cooler than everyone else. 😉 I have a few friends who are sort of into it, but nowhere near as much as I am, which is frustrating. Like, they enjoy it well enough because they think it's funny or they think Spike's hot or whatever, but they don't get deep into it - I'm more into the subtext, philosophy, and character psychology of it; not just what's on the surface. If you know what I mean. Or not. But seriously, my goal in life is to preach the greatness of Buffy and convert as many people as I can to the Buffy fandom! 😀
