Why do you ship them?

Favorite ship is Xander/Spike: I ship them because they're similar yet different, they are equal in the sense that they're both followers and leaders, unlike Buffy and Angel who are both born leaders, they always spark with chemistry when they're in a scene together, they're fun and snarky and when they save each other they don't expect thanks or gratitude, they just do it because it's the right thing to do.

And during sex they take turns in topping and bottoming, and both prefer bottoming 😀 That's a follow-up to the equal comment.

I ship Bangel.

Bangel is the very first couple I ever saw. I guess growing up with them I learned a lot about love. About sacrifice. About differences. About faith, destiny and how people can change. How love never ends, even when two people don't end up together.

Bangel karma!!!
I ship Spuffy.

I love them together. They make me feel. Intensely. The first time they are together, in that crazy house falling down around them, the look on Spike's face in that first moment.

When Buffy comes and rescues him from the First and he realizes it is her and she looks at him with so much emotion.

At the end with the burning hands. . . The kiss in Tabula Rasa . . . When she kisses him in Intervention. When they held each other in Touched.

I mean, those last three moments have already moved me to make artwork. And I really enjoyed working on every piece for all of the 8 to 10 hours I spent on each one. And something has to have me feeling to an extreme to make me enjoy the whole process.

I love that in that last season they are really a team. A partnership. I just think it's beautiful.

Hey, lookie! I made with the ramble-y again.

Spuffy! :)
I didn't start watching Buffy until Season 6, so I had no preconceived ideas about Buffy's earlier boyfriends or about Spike as an evil Slayer killing monster. I saw the two of them working together, the way that Buffy confided in Spike and (arguably) trusted him in ways that she didn't trust anyone else. They were two people who for different reasons had one very obvious thing in common: they felt isolated from the people around them, and it was that isolation that drew them together. That they would fall in love was, to me, inevitable and perfectly natural. When I began watching the earlier episodes on rerun, I saw Buffy in relationships with both Angel and Riley, and neither one seemed to me to "fit" with her the way that Spike would in the later seasons. When I say that I saw both Angel and Riley as simply guys trying to mess around with "Spike's girl," I say it only partially as a joke, but I do, in fact, think of Buffy in that context. She was just marking time waiting for Spike to come along.

I ship Willow/Oz and Willow/Tara. Both of those relationships had mutual trust, respect and deep love. They were passionate yet stable at the same time. The individuals involved could completely be themselves without fear of being rejected, judged or needing to change.

Both were amazing!!!
I ship Cangel because I believe in love. They to me are love. I ship them because they understand eachother better then anyone. Because there friendship is so strong it could withstand anything. I ship them because they couldn't realize they loved eachother until it was too late. I love them if not even more because they missed there moment and will forever be a tragic love story. They are my perfect couple.

Bangel: I ship Buffy and Angel because they love each other wholly and selflessly. There love is deep, unwavering and timeless.

Briley: I ship Buffy and Riley mainly because of Riley 😀. Riley absolutely adored Buffy always saw the best in her.

Woz: I ship Willow and Oz because their sweetness in undeniable.

Woz (or as I like to call them Wozlow)- They complemented each other so well. Her chattiness made up for his laconism. His laid back style made up for her nervousness.

Tilllow- I loved that Tara made Willow a better person and Willow made Tara more confident and boosted her self-esteem.

Bangel- There was so much passion between them and they really have a forever love because no matter who they end up with, they will always love each other.

Spuffy- They grew to understood each other. They both knew what it was like to feel alone, isolated and they knew what it was like to have gone through a rough and dark time. I feel like he's the only one that can understand her in that way. Not to mention, he was also whatever she needed him to be whenever she needed him.

I sort of feel like a traitor for shipping both Bangel and Spuffy but I can't help it. They're both equally amazing.

I too ship Bangel and Spuffy. Also agree about Wozlow and Tillow!!
Spuffy - Spike loves Buffy more than anything in the whole world ever. My goal in life is to find someone who loves me HALF as much as Spike loves Buffy. Plus their journey is just so beautiful. They went through this whole "learning who I am by looking at the other" thing... I love it.

Tillow - They had an instant attraction, but it was such a subtle beginning. I love that. They have the perfect "romantic friendship." I love it. I ship them because they're EXACTLY the kind of relationship I want...

Xanya - They became better people in each others' name... it was just such a beautiful story.

Dander - The two "normal" people in a group of "super" people. They were kinda destined to fall in love.

You forgot a ship..... a ship you promised to ship and this was the perfect opportunity to ship it. :(
Awesome thread!

I ship Giles/Jenny because I feel like they are the most tragic, beautiful otp on the show. And I think it's because they were the only real adult relationship on the show and they were both so human. Giles was so afraid of her seeing his dark past and Jenny was so at a loss for reconciling her past with her present. I felt it was very real and the death of Jenny was the most abrupt ending of any relationship we see on the show (even Willow and Tara got back together before she was killed). She really loved Giles for who he was unlike Olivia and Band Candy Joyce and Giles was smitten by Jenny's charm, wit, and strength. They really shared a passion that is visible on screen.

Also, I find this to be funny and true 😛

Excellent description of Giles/Jenny. These two are too often overlooked.

Giles and Jenny are my favourite couple. I accidentally told my mum that the other day and then was put on the spot when I couldn't explain why. I couldn't exactly tell her it was because Giles is the hottest thing since sliced bread... For some reason I feel awkward when I'm watching Buffy with someone and they know that I am most likely mentally undressing Giles...so I usually keep that under wraps...

It's hard for me to actually formulate a reason for my love of Giles/Jenny with actual words though. I just see them together and I think 'aaaaaawwww'.

It may be because it's the only truly adult relationship on the show. I like adult relationships more than teenage ones for some reason. I also just love how Jenny, the sarcastic, playful, teasing, sexy computer teacher, and Giles, the stuffy, shy, stuttering librarian fit together.

It's such a cute relationship. And it was sad that Jenny had to die. But couldn't they have given us some more Giles/Jenny action before they killed her? It was sad how little of their relationship you saw, when it must have been going on behind the scenes...

Agreed! Eveytime I watch Buffy with someone I feel the same way! Haha! Yea, we didn't get a whole lot of G/J on the show, but the little moments we did get (like the end of "Ted") are really good!

Fred and Wesley

I've started loving Fresley ever since Wesley started dropping the hints. I felt so sad for Wesley in Waiting in the Wings when he saw Fred kissing Gunn. I could never bring myself to love Frunn because of how much I adored Fresley and how bad I felt for Wesley at the time. I also felt really bad for Wesley and Fred in Billy.

When Season Five came around I was hoping for a lot more moments. I was pretty upset when Fred went out with Knox for a while. I was happy when Fred finally got with Wesley at the end of Smile Time, because Wesley was quite a tortured soul during Angel, and he was finally getting a chance with the girl he loved for so long.

Only he didn't.

We know Joss never lets there be happy endings, when A Hole in the World came around, Fred was dying, and Wesley was just having more bad luck. There just wasn't enough time between the two for me, but that didn't stop me from loving Fresley.

Not Fade Away made me happier about the two though, because of what Illyria did for Wesley, and the last thing Wesley saw was Fred. That was a beautiful moment for me.

It was an adorable relationship in which I saw more chemistry to than Fred and Gunn. Like I've mentioned in other posts, while I do love Illyria, I also love Fred and her relationship with Wesley. I just wish there was a little more time for the couple.

"Beautiful moment" is the understatement of the year!!! Perhaps the most touching moment in the entire Whedonverse!!!! I cry every time. :(

Like Zobothehobo, I ship Spuffy. I like to believe that there are others who love that intensly. That some people don't give up when things get hard (or even nearly impossible), but find a way... I like how he has shown her that there is at least one man who will not leave her (yeah, I have abandonment issues like Buffy does).
