Why/How you chose your Username

Hey guys. 😀 So lately I've been wondering how a lot of you guys chose your usernames. Some are pretty obvious, Like "Joan The Vampire Slayer" is OBVIOUSLY named for Becky's favorite episode, Tabula Rasa. But other one's are just plain confusing: How did Kean choose the name "Kean"? What the heckerdoodle does "Nix" mean? Lol, those are the questions that you will find answers to here. 😀

So, as for my nickname... Well, I suppose I might as well go into detail. 😀 My first ever Username was "super Granger". Weird, I know, but I couldn't think of anything, and I was only eight years old. 😀 Since then, I've almost always used the name Wishing Oceans.

Why? Well, the Oceans part is easy: I LOVE oceans. Really, Oceans+Me=Love. 😀 When you're in the Ocean, scuba diving, it's like another world. I just love it.

As for the Wishing part, well, I've always been a bit of a dreamer. 😀 I spend a lot of my time just daydreaming and imagining Alternate Universes and the likes. Plus, the word "Wishing" is just so lovely sounding to me. 🙂

So, there you have it, that's how I chose the name Wishing Oceans.

LOL It's my nickname in real life. My name is Nikki and my friends shorten it to Nix sometimes. My old username was Foi which I believed was French for Faith.

I know. 😀 But I guess I should let her tell you exactly how it is. I'll just say it might have something to do with a pshycho that played in a shitty team. Ok, so the psycho was a great player and the team won loads and loads and loads and loads of trophies. But the fact still stands. Psycho and shitty team. 😉 My team is so much better (and always has been. Especially the last 20 years.) and to everyone's joy it's playing amazing at the moment...

What the heckerdoodle does "Nix" mean?

As every swede knows it's slang for no. But to my shock it wasn't what she got it from. 😛 And since I'm so slow she's already posted.


My name?

The song The Kinslayer by Nightwish. I'm a fan of them. Even though it's far from my favourite song.
I thought it suited to have slayer in the name considering the board I use it on.
And Kinslayer means someone that kills his/her blood relatives and that made me think of vampires so another reason I thought it would work to use on this board.

And then the obvious. It's totally bad ass just like me so it's a perfect match in so many ways.

 

[Flannen]

Flannen was a word that me and my brothers used to use all the time. It's in one episode of Friends when Chandler has to do a meeting and when he's talking to the others about what he's going to say he says a lot of mumbo jumbo and finishes with 'flannen'. So it was just something we started saying. Then we got a new kitten and for some reason my parents allowed us to call him Flannen, so yes I also share my name with my cat.

It's been a word I've used for a few years when signing up for things because I could never think of anything else, so it's what I went with here too. Although, I think it means something not so nice in Swedish...I'll leave that to TK to clarify as it was him who told me, I think 😉

Hmm interesting question. I used to be called 'theiniative' coz I thought they were pretty badass, but I changed to TheGrandmaster when I realised my first username was spelt wrong 😛 Anywayz I got TheGrandmaster off this tacky show on kids Tv my sister watches called MI High, where the bad guy is called the grandmaster. Thought it sounded pretty cool so I adopted it.
Buffy Boards was the first place I used 'TheGrandmaster' but now I find myself using it for all new usernames :S Wonder if that means anything 😛
Gotta say I reckon there's gonna be some interesting answers on this thread (at least more interesting than mine) and look forward to reading them 🙂

Mine is from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series. I used to be pretty into that a few years ago, and so when I needed an email address, I chose 'xaphania'.

And I just kept using it on various forums/archives. I like that many people don't have usernames that start with X.

Ok so this doesn't really help the psycho claims but he was the easily the greatest player of his generation. Plus he's Irish, so, extra points for that.😉

Anyway, I had this really stupid idea to change my name to Cordy. It lasted about 6 hours before I asked Faith to change my name to Kean, since that was what everyone called me anyway.

And that, me dear, is the story of Kean. 🙂

Well, originally my username on here was clemxens, and I can't really say why. I mean, I can, because I know why I chose that, but for personal reasons I won't. Some of my Facebook friends may know why, though... 😛

Willow-Tree was picked because Willow is my favorite character in the Buffyverse, and in "Under Your Spell", Tara sings to Willow: "Spread beneath my Willow tree..."

So, yeah.

LMAO, I had just made this HUGE statement about how Kean would NEVER let me get away with changing me name, and how we would be Keanoite and Lyri...and 2 hours later, she texted me and was all 'Um, so I changed my name. I'm Cordy now.' I was DEVASTATED! But, you know, I tried to be supportive and said 'Yeah, it'll be fine' but I hated it. I tried to get used to it, and call her Cordy, but it was weird, lol. Finally, after another couple hours, she was like 'Screw this' and Kean was born. I have never been more glad of a name change in my whole life, lol.

Alright, so, my name. There sorta two stories behind this.

LY are the last two letters of my first name. (Shut it, you lot! I hate my real name, and like the shortened version better) And R is the first letter of my middle name. And the I just...whatever, so it kinda relates to my real name.

The fandom side of things, I was writing a Spike/Illyria fic a LONG time ago, and I was getting annoyed at having Spike calling her Illyria all the time, so I was like 'Hmm, wonder what I good nickname for her would be?' And I came up with 'Lyri' and I thought I was amazing and awesome at having this really cool nickname for the character. When I joined BB, of course, Illyria was taken, but Lyri wasn't, so I thought 'Cool!' And thus, Lyri was born!

And then I found out three years later that Lorne actually called her Lyri in the show, so my amazing-ness was voided, lol.

pretty much, when i was 14 (hince '04), I thought cool aim names had something to do with "sk8r"s or whatever, and I wanted to be cool, so I used this combination: sk8r+j+04. Which is the cool name, first letter of my name, and the year.

The White Avenger was originally a D&D character that I developed but only got to use once. He was the sole survivor of a nonhuman race who had been systematically murdered by Alchemists, who used their blood to turn lead into gold, and he had been hunting them down ever since. Golden skin, white hair, turquoise green eyes, and all dressed in white. Therefore the name White Avenger. (I almost changed it awhile back when I found a website with a highly racist agenda being run by someone of that name, but I'm just too stubborn )

I went through a Gwen Stefani obsession and used to play "The Sweet Escape" all the time, a friend said whenever she hears the song she thnks of me. So I started using it as a username...I dunno it means a lot more to me these days for personal reasons. But I think it has a nice ring to it and it's usually free on forums or signing up for things.

Here's what I posted into it back then:

No big story behind it... it's just what I am, insane and a mystic. *duh!* I use either this version or the latinized one (Mysticus Insanus) as my nicks pretty much whenever I use the net.

Besides, I once launched a contact ad (is that what you call it in English?) starting with "Insane mystic (31) looking for...". Didn't get a single answer to that one, btw.

It's also slang for nothing in German. Which usually makes me chuckle every time I see Nixy's username. I'm sorry, Nixy 😛


Mumrik pretty much is my main web alter ego now, since I'm boring and unimaginative and forgetful. Sadly, it was taken when I signed up on Twitter. I do not approve of that.

I took it from one of the German names of my favourite character off the Finnish (or would it be actually Swedish? Anyway, It was written by a Swedish-speaking Finn) books/TV show "The Moomins", Snusmumriken/Snufkin. Why I took it, well, I was watching an episode of the Moomins while I was thinking of a new username for another board. Thus, Mumrik. I was thinking of naming myself "Mockingbird" after the Marvel comics character or "Moriarty" for a while but dropped that. Huh, those all start with an M. I never noticed that.
