Why is your favorite character your favorite?

I love a lot of characters, pretty passionately too... so I want to say more about what I like about them. (Did I mention I really like this thread?)

Connor - what a heart on this boy! He grows up in a hell dimension where the man who raises him practices tough love in the extreme....abandoning him over and over again and making him find his way back to him (that's who he learned to be such a good tracker)... and not only does he survive he thrives, he becomes known as the destroyer. he becomes the thing the monsters fear... his whole life is a lie and deep down he knows it, as he later says in his speech to the comatose cordelia.... but he goes along and he loves.... despite it all he loves deeply and loyally. He loves holtz.. He's a kick ass fighter with the softest heart I've seen of anyone on the show. The first person he meets, sunny, (the girl who overdoses) the way he asks her "you're sad?" when she tries to explain what heroin is... I just love him!

Gunn - again, he's a pure hero. he's solid inside. for so long he sees himself as just "the muscle". but his integrity and courage absolutely shine through... He's the only one to try and fight Billy's influence, for example... and he refuses to accept marcus's help later... I'm in such awe and admiration of him. Again, pure love.

Gwen - she's one of my favorites! She's strong and beautiful and she breaks my heart. She must be so lonely... not ever being able to touch anyone. But she sees people...she sees what others don't. She sees gunn for example, and she helps him to see himself.

Illyria - I just love watching her kick ass. 🙂

There's more but it takes me forever to make posts like this cause I have trouble putting such intense feelings into words so I'm gonna stop for now. 🙂

a heart for you for having Connor on the list <3
Buffy Summers

Reasons why:
- She's loyal
- Has a big heart
- Not one to judge someone/thing so easily
- Beautiful
- Has amazing fight scenes
- Whenever she feels like giving up she comes back 10 times stronger
- Is a great female lead for a TV show.
- Loves her friends so much she let's them live with her rent free even when she's broke
- Wonderful sister to Dawn
- She's very witty
- Even though she's a kick ass Slayer she's still a girly girl
- A great leader
- She keeps messing up demons names (and names of most things)
- Kinky 😉

Anya - for the reasons she never fails to make me laugh or smile, even when she has very little to say. (Of course excluding sad moments for her like in "The Body" and "Hells Bells" Then I just feel for her)

Drusilla, because she's the only villain that ever actually scared me. She's so unpredictable that she can't really be reasoned with, nor could you try and guess her next move. Almost all other villains you could potentially reason with, but not Drusilla. I also love her child like attitude which can be funny or creepy depending on the context. I also think she's really cute.

I have more than one favourite. The best I can do is narrow it down to three: Buffy, Willow and Angel.

A lot of BtVS is personal drama, and Buffy is the character I relate to best in that, her character flaws included. I can be secretive, detached, I have a way of finding ways to make myself a bit miserable, and I tend to hold myself to a particular ethic or set of principles, sometimes at the expense of my others. Buffy is probably my biggest aspirational figure on the show.

I can relate to Willow in different ways (e.g. I always liked and was good at school/academics), but my appreciation of Willow is a bit different from my appreciation of Buffy. It's not that I'm super similar to her; truthfully, I just all around love Willow – her quirkiness, her smarts, her optimism, her cuteness, and I love how she matures over the course of the show. I always enjoyed her friendships with Buffy and Xander, as well as all of her relationships. As character types go, I'll look up to and relate to a Buffy, but I'm much more likely to fall for a Willow. No doubt it helps that Alyson Hannigan is gorgeous – those eyes, that hair, oh my god.

I like Angel because I like his whole redemption deal, not to mention his selflessness. He's a real hero, he's committed to the choices he makes and he's got a great backstory. Much like Buffy, he's usually more of an aspirational figure for me than anything else. Obviously, I enjoyed his relationship with Buffy better than her other relationships (although I did like Riley pre-S5). He's also responsible for my favourite Big Bad on BtVS (unless Dark Willow counts, in which case it's pretty much tied) in Angelus.

Cordelia, because her character development is the best in the Buffyverse (or Wesley, both were great). But I loved her honesty, and she said things people were thinking but to afraid to say. When she joined Angel she became the most reliable member of the team and a strong role model for girls

Buffy because.... well... she's Buffy:
-because duh, Sarah Michelle Gellar!
-because she never goes down without a fight
-because she would do anything to protect the ones she loves
-because she hates responsibilities, but she's always ready when she has to add a few more to the list
-because she might want a normal life, but she never complains (much)
-because the love of her life is the sexiest vampire ever (and her second big love is the second sexiest vampire 😀 )

and of course there's Dawn:
-because she's an annoying little brat at times
-because she was ready to give up her "Potential status", even if it meant not being part of the Potentials gang
-because she had a crush on Xander in season 5 (so cute!)
-beause she's the most courageous normal teenager I know of

Angel

I think what I love the most about Angel is his indomitable spirit and character. He has always represented what it means to be strong to me. I wrote this as an answer to a similar question, and I can't think of a better way to express why he is my favourite character, not just in the Buffyverse, but ever.

This man has both been and seen the worst of humanity and yet still he finds reason to hope for better. More so than that, he tries to be better. If he can do this, what the Hell am I complaining about? What reason do I have to not try too?

In a world full of cynicism and bitterness, he gives me heart.

another good thread 🙂

My fav characters are: Buffy because she is the best! and even though she has the reponsibility of saving the world over and over again she still had to go to school, hold down a job, pay the bills, constantly looking after her friends and family, having relationships that end in heartbreak and she still manages to be so pretty and witty and strong 🙂

And Spike because he tries to be good and makes mistakes like everyone and adds so much humour to the show, he would do anything for buffy, hes sweet with joyce, looks after dawn, hes just a cool dude! 🙂 oh and he saves the world.

Spike, mainly because he's a walking contradiction. He's a lover but a vampire, a poet but a punk, badass but a softy, protective but independent (mostly) and he has a great sense of humour. He says he doesn't care about the Scoobies a lot but yet is still one of the most observant and he just doesn't care what people think of him. Plus he fought for his soul, regardless of his intention that's not something you go about doing on a whim and shows how far he came in just a few seasons.

He's such a multi-faceted character and has evolved massively over the run of the series. Plus his coat is lush and he has a good taste in music 😛
