Why was 2016 such a terrible year?

Good Things in 2016: Brexit, Theresa May, Tsai Ing-wen.

Neutral Thing in 2016: Donald Trump.

Bad Thing in 2016: My hometown is still under the tyranny from the international terrorist organization called China.

Well if you think she's so great you can have her😀 Suddenly Cameron is starting to look like a much better PM😉

There was a saying at one time about China being called the sleeping giant, that should only be awakened at great peril. Give the devil his due, Trump awoke the sleeping giant here in the U S, the middle class White voters, the people who politicians have been literally ignoring for decades. Clinton, the entire Democratic Party, and more than a few Republicans, thought that Trump was nothing but a joke

He may be a disaster as president, but, just to imagine all those people eating crow now....

I doubt that Trump had much to do with it personally. It really wasn't that hard to use the media in the way he did anyway. I agree with you about why many of the people voted Trump (though if the US had a proper voting system the result would have been different anyway), but I think there are other reasons why the election went the way it did. For one some of the people who voted for Trump are probably just as racist or sexist as him. Another reason is because of the sexist media covenge that Clinton got compared to Trump. Not to mention the timing of the second FBI investigation would have made a difference.

And Hillary is 69. Age isn't really an issue. And Trump has been a CEO a whole lot longer than Hillary has been a Senator or Secretary of State.

No, the crazy thing is, it wasn't so much the people who voted FOR Trump, as it was the people who voted AGAINST Hillary that decided the election. Trump won because more people voted against his opponent than voted against him.

He has a point, if you consider the fact that America sends more money out of the country than it brings in, and American companies are moving to Mexico because they can manufacture their products there with less regulation, lower wages, and little or no employee benefits.

As for how many countries will be wanting to close American military bases, they might want to look at the amount of money those bases bring into their country, plus the security that quite a few of then enjoy primarily because of our military presence. Closing those bases might not be in their best interest.

But the difference is that being a CEO in no way qualifies you to run for the White House and I'm not sure you can even say he was a good CEO. At least the positions held by Hillary were political.

On a personal level 2016 was not a good year. I've been in hibernation for a year hoping it'll all go away. 😛

As for politically, same old same old. Intolerance as a backlash against whatever you're angry about has always bred monsters, it's the cyclical nature of history. Besides, climate change will end us first. Save the planet? The planet is just fine, it just doesn't like us humans. Let the planet start anew. It kens what it's doing. 😉

Illyrian: I mention Hillary's age, it had nothing to do with my point. Which you missed completely.

I mentioned Hillary's (69) age because you mentioned Trump's age (70) ( "Trump is just beginning, and he is 70 years old already") The fact that he is just now entering politics, considering the standard set by many of today's career politicians might actually be a good thing. A businessman, which Trump is, hires the best people as his advisers and support staff because he wants his business to be successful. Hillary would have no doubt picked the members of her cabinet from among her list of cronies, yes men, and partners in crime.

Why not? Please elaborate.

Because having business skills is not the same as having political skills. Besides Trump doesn't even have good business skills. He was born into money and has even managed to make a mess of a number of his businesses.

Show me the proof that Hillary has committed any crimes. She was cleared TWICE! by the FBI. And everything else she's been accused of is just hear say and there's no strong evidence to support it. The fact is Clinton not only has political experience, but she also has good people skills and common sense, three things that Trump lacks. Trump has no intention of hiring people who are qualified at their jobs, but instead people who are as crooked as he is and as hateful too.

Actually, it rather is. To be successful in business, one must be good at interacting with many types of people. Plus, knowing when to back out of a deal (or go forward), when to be firm or lax, etc. Politics is very, very similar.

Well he doesn't even have good business skills is my response to that one😀

If that were true, he wouldn't be worth over 3 billion dollars. 😛

I've already covered this he was born into money😉 And in the modern world it is easier than ever to become a celebrity. Its already been proven that his business pratices are hardly up front and above board.

His father lent him one million to start a business...after that, he made his own money. And did QUITE well, obviously.

His business practices weren't upfront and above board, eh? Not really caring. (Even IF that's true) Three. Billion. Dollars.

I love how you state that like one Million isn't a lot of money!😛

Well it is true, and that is another reason why he isn't fit to be running the White House.

Not true, but whatever dude. 😛 And he'll be merrily running the White House, not really worrying about what you think. Muahaha.

Nicely argued! lol.

I'll put my hand in my wallet for the shipping fee! How much do we reckon to post May to @vellavu ? Hazardous materials label on the front of course.

2016 was bad in many ways but also just..crazy and unpredictable and stressful. So many celebrity deaths (and that's something that's going to happen more and more of now btw, celebs are getting to an age where they pass with more and more frequency, and you'll have so many people on social media being miserable/over-reacting ever single time...)

The Brexit thing happened and then (weirdly) it was Labour that almost self-destructed. We almost got Boris Johnson as PM over here (so we could've have TWO odd men with bad hair leading western countries...).

Show me the proof that Hillary has committed any crimes.

Hilary Clinton inproperly handled classified materials: FACT. People have gone to jail for that very thing.
You have to understand the BIG difference between being cleared of a crime on the one hand and the justice system simply not bothering to prosecute on the other. That second one is what happened to Clinton.

Ok - if you want to prosecute Hilary for that, than you'd better do the same to several of the last sec. states (some of whom were reps) who all said that they did the same exact same thing.

Folks, I am sorry that I ever brought politics into this thread. My original intent was to simply point out the behavior of so many of the American people, regardless of party affiliations (okay, I did single out the Democrats, but that was just because they raised such a fuss after the election was all settled and over with. That's not saying that the Republicans didn't live up to that "deplorable" comment as well, because they did) In the history of this Nation, the only time that I can think of, when a Presidential election stirred up this much trouble, it resulted in the unquestionably most tragic four years of our entire history, and I have no desire to see that history repeat itself in my lifetime, or in my grandson's lifetime, or the lifetime of his grandson.

Abraham Lincoln said that all of the military forces of the world could never destroy this country. When it falls, it will fall from within. Maybe the first part of that statement is now somewhat unrealistic, given the capacity for global destruction that those military forces now possess, but the second half truly worries me now, in a way that it never has before.

I've said on several occasions on this forum that, for me, every election comes down to trying to make the better of two bad choices, and the 2016 Presidential Election was probably the best example of that statement to date. I will freely admit that I have serious doubts about Donald Trump being capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of President of the United States, but, by everything that I believe and hold sacred, I have no doubt that Hillary Clinton would do everything in her power to undermine and destroy everything that makes this country the homeland that I love. I know that not everyone shares that opinion, and that is, unarguably, their right to disagree with me. I really wish that I could say with conviction that my side won, and their side lost, but I do still have a definite fear that, in truth, we all lost this time. Like Pandora's Box, however, I still have hope. The politicians have just about brought this nation to the brink of disaster. Maybe, just maybe, it's time to let the businessmen run the show for awhile.

Personally I think a lot of bad stuff happened in 2016, but I doubt it will be anywhere near as bad as in 2017.
