Will Doctor Horrible Have Sequels?

In the discussion thread there's some conjecture Doctor Horrible is an origin story. This implies more is coming.

In this thread there's the suggestion they've only begun to explore the possibilities for monetizing the project. To get more they'd have to give more.

So will they go for it? How will they do it if they do?

Lately Joss has shown himself willing to delegate responsibility to others then move on. Who'd get that responsibility. I suspect he'd keep it in the family. Maybe Jed, or Jed and Maurissa. They're going over to Dollhouse together, so it's looking like they're a writing team.

But Doctor Horrible would need those catchy melodies, and clever lyrics. Who but Joss could deliver.

How would the Horribleverse develop as far as story is concerned, I wonder.

N4H...I'm committing you to therapy....NOW!
I don't know anything about it. But the only thing i know is that i cant stop watching it.. over and over again. I know joss could do it. i hope he'll do it. There s only 3 "episodes" (10 min prox.) and i'm already in love with it! =) i really hope dr horrible could become a series 🙂

It should either be left exactly as it ended, which was perfect, or developed into a full blown series, which would be next to impossible with the musical format without becoming totally absurd. I would like to see it made available in some sort of dvd package, maybe with bloopers and deleted scenes from "Buffy," "Angel," and "Firefly," plus maybe a little "Doll House" thrown in. If Joss wants to pull in a little extra cash, I think that he would have a small gold mine there.

I'm in the leave it boat. It was a perfect little project that should stay as it is. I think the point of it was the origins story. If this was to be developed into a full-blown show or series it would just be way too similar to existing stories. This worked because of the format it was presented in. Don't think it would work as a larger televised project.

I wasn't envisioning that myself.

I was seeing a continuation of the web-hosted format. Not limited to weekly, or even monthly deadlines. The actual Dr. Horrible story might be bi-anual, or even annual, but the story continues.

I'm seeing something more like a "Dr. Horrible Presents" kind of format hosted from the web. Other stories could stay musical, or even spin to different characters within the horribleverse, not necessarily musical.

There's even the possibility of non-Doctor H stories hosted on the blog - Buffy Animated, The Guild, Mutant Enemy originals eg.

Within this format, or something like it the Dr. Horrible story could continue.

Im kind of undecided, I loved Dr Horrible but I dont see it being a big series. I thought it was a great little package and cant wait for the dvd.
A few random series of different things produced by the same people would be awesome though!

I just listened to the interview with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen at DoctorHorrible.net, and there's something I failed to notice. They wrote some of the songs. Something to factor in if Joss considered a delegated show every once in awhile.

I'm curious to see who wrote which songs. I was thinking that maybe Jed had done the arrangements, orchestration.

Expanding the Horribleverse could be fun.

It would be cool if Joss and Mutant Enemy could at least do an annual summertime web musical. Or..a series of musicals. The man doesn't need a vacation, does he? I think I'm actually more interested in seeing him explore musicals every which way, more so even than expanding the Horribleverse. He needs to get to his ballet for Summer, for instance.

But yeah, I wanna see Mutant Enemy completely take over the Web with all kinds of weird experimants, new stuff. Original movies, animation. How about a Fray animated feature?

I'm in the put-it-in-a-boat-and-sink-the-boat boat. I enjoyed the songs, especially the Bad Horse trio, and Nathan and Neil were reliably watchable. For that matter, I like Felicia Day. Too bad Joss at all forgot to write a part for her. A dishrag leading lady, created only to be a victim? Didn't see that coming, Whedons.

I liked the dishrag. She was gentle and sweet and idealistic and very naive, yes. I mean, I guess she was sort of a device, a catalyst for the huge conflict.

I'm all for more short spin offs. They would be amusing. They wouldn't even have to have that much to do with each other.

However, N4H, you've officially passed the obsessed threshold. When browsing the New Posts you have TOO MANY concerning Dr. Horrible and you're now being committed to rehab to get some of it out of your system.
Don't worry, we'll pipe the soundtrack into your padded room for you.

How do you know that's not where I'm posting from.

No but I get your point. You know what fascinates more than even Dr. Horrible itself? The whole webseries phenomena - how it may possibly allow the creator control of his creation and such. Also the possibility of teaching networks, and multi-national conglomerates humility. I want to see creators take control of their creations. I admit it. I'm a total cheerleader. : king :

I'll cheer right there with you then! I'm ALL FOR THAT!
I'd love there to be more. Joss stated in one of the DrH interviews that he's considering it.. after the success I wouldn't be surprised. Even though he's a busy man right now.
I would be cool if they gave us 3 episodes every few months or something.. bi yearly or so? Something to look forward to online.

I am feeling a Trilogy would be great! Three is just a wonderful number maybe next summer and then the next summer or sooner than that. But the middle could be him working for the ELE while trying to make a device to bring Penny back maybe? And then the third could be the big she-bang! And plus I am thinking collectors DVD with all three box set. It could be AWESOME!

P.S. - N4H don't worry I am write there with you actually I am in the next cushoned room in rehab. Almost all of my latest posts are devoted to Dr. Horrible and I have been making banners and reading articles etc. I am so excited for this new age of Internet Entertainment! Can I join your cheeleading squad. :cheering:

Joss was talking a sequel at comic-con.

Joss Whedon just confirmed here on his Comic-Con panel that he plans to do at least another episode of Dr. Horrible. His relevant quotes after the jump; more details once the panel wraps.

A questioner asks, "What would a Part Four of Dr. Horrible be like?"

Joss sort of takes a deep breath. "The idea is that there will be another part "“

(interrupted by huge cheers)

"“so we're not gonna tell you about it yet."
He goes on to talk about why he's excited to continue the webseries:

"I'm older, and balder/wiser than when I made Firefly, and I approach things differently. I take it one episode at a time. And any episode we don't get out"¦I can make stuff on the internet now!" Cheers.

"Besides the fact that we all had an enormous amount of fun, this was designed to be a model for a new way to put out media, an artistic community that involves all of you guys, and all of us, and maybe not so much"¦ other people."

"I'm not trying to bring down the studios, I do still work there, as we all do, and I'm grateful for it"¦but things are changing, and its really important that as things change, they change for the better, and Dr. Horrible is about that, its about putting power in different hands "” THE WRONG HANDS."

Wow nerd4hire, you're on the ball! I love your enthusiasm and updates 😀
Keep spreading the Dr Horrible love. Whoohoo

Looking forward to whatever else Joss has on the cards for this show. I wonder where they will go from here?

I just read the interview from the Comic Con that N4H posted above and it sounds promising. Of course we probably won't hear anything about it for a long while, but at least they are definitely thinking of doing more. Thank you Joss and Co.
