Will I Ever Find Another Show I Love Like I Love Buffy?

This is a question for the ones on here whom claim Buffy as their favorite show.

My question is: Have you found another show you love as much? Why or why not?

I'm starting to think I will never find a show I love nearly as much (except, with MAYBE the exception of Firefly...it it hadn't been cancelled and had more room to develop), and I watch quite a bit of television, os it's not like I'm not giving myself the chance to find one.

Yet, nothing has come even close to capturing my imagination like Buffy did. The second I started watching it I knew it was going to be my favorite show forever...anyone else feel this way when they initially saw it? Or did it take a while to grow on you? I just find Buffy so complex and interesting and creative and innovative and classic...and far superior to anything I've seen yet.

What about you all?

I haven't found anything that has even come close. I like quite a few shows (past and present) but nothing on the Buffyverse level. I can't really say why but I think it has to do with the consistingly brilliant storytelling. Even when Buffy was bad it was better than nearly everything else on Tv.

I'm currently pretty obsessed with LOST, but the way that show is set up, a terrible ending could entirely ruin the show for me. I'm going to have to see how I feel when it's all said and done before I decide where it ranks. I used to really love 24 as well. I still like it but its entirely too repetitive in some respects for me to hold it in the same regard as Buffy.

EDIT: I left out Arrested Development the first time I posted. Absolutely brilliant show. I can watch an episode five times and still catch jokes that were subtle enough I hadn't noticed them before.

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT! I would cry, but I can't spare the moisture.
Firefly.

As far as non-Joss shows go, I don't think any shows have completely drawn me in on the level that Buffy, Angel, and Firefly have. I do love Arrested Development muchly, too, but I can't really compare it to the former shows because they're completely different (aside from their mutual use of intelligent humor).

I have, and all of you are going to know the answer: Gossip Girl.

I don't think I've ever fallen for a show this hard this fast. The actors like the ships that they portray on the show. There's eye candy AND mind candy, and everything on it is fresh and smart. There's humor and when I'm not constantly laughing, I'm thinking about what's happening next. I go to sleep thinking about it at times, and I theorize with my friends. I constantly look online for the next promotion pictures and advertisements or spoiler pictures or spoiler information. I write fanfic for it.

And it's the second show to make me cry (the Blair/Chuck scene during "O Brother, Where Bart Thou?" where she tells him she will stand by anything and when he runs away. Dear God, me and Deli were bawling. No joke.) Not to mention Chuck/Blair, which is the best ship that exists currently in television and ever will. You know when there's a ship that has "3 words. 8 letters. Say it, and I'm yours." that you're a goner. And the scene where Chuck dares Blair to strip at Victrola and then proceeds to deflower her later in the limo... I don't think there's any way to top that type of taking of your V Card. Nate and Vanessa are also one of my favorites. Take one dull character who is pretty much boring and dumb yet handsome and clash him together with a down-to-Earth Brooklyn home-schooled girl who is funny and smart and honest and you have one very cute couple. Serena and Dan... that ship was so good in season one, but I'm not so sure about this season. He's her first real boyfriend, even though she's not an innocent or inexperienced girl at all. She's his first girlfriend and the real-life romance between these two actors just adds to their chemistry on the show. The only request I have is that there should be more Jonathan/Eric in the show. Eric is just so cute and funny and he is perfect with Jonathan.

But not only does it have some of the best and cutest and hottest and complicated couples, it also deals with very real issues. It makes fun of your desire to be part of the elite world and society that is the Upper East Side, and at the same time, it feeds it to those that are desperate for it. There's a reason that New York Magazine calls it the "Best. Show. Ever." Not only is it the best teen drama to date and to ever exist, it attracts viewers that aren't even in that age range. It's sophisticated and the characters are very real people.

So for those of you who haven't watched it and think that it's dumb or girly or superficial, give it a try. You may be surprised.

I'd really like to watch Gossip Girl once I'm done with Weeds and Smallville...

I have found a lof of things...I think it's hard to say something is as good as something else... There are different was of loving a show you know.

I really love Dexter. That's the only show I've really got into recently (and Dollhouse, obviously😛) but the difference is still noticeable. It's very entertaining, and funny, but Buffy has better characters, better writing.

Dexter! I totally agree about the characters and writing though. I'm afraid there's never gonna be another show like Buffy again. :(

I love Dexter!
There are a lot of shows I love, but none of them patch on Buffy. Once in English class we had to review our favourite TV show and everyone kept saying 'it's too hard, there are so many' but I didn't have that problem, because nothing will ever be as good as Buffy. I don't know why, but everything always has to come second best in comparison. I love Gossip Girl, I love Heroes, I love One Tree Hill, I love Being Human...But nothing is as good as Buffy. Other Joss shows are just as amazing, but still not as good. I don't think anything, for me, ever will be.

I knew pretty much right away that I would love Buffy more than anything. I often times find myself wondering the same question that you are, I just NEED something to that level. I haven't found anything to 100% mean what Buffy meant to me, I don't think I ever will, and that is ok to me. But I have found some things that have 95% meant what Buffy means to me and I will list them here in hopes that someone out there may find these things as meaningful as I did...

TV Shows

Angel- Almost didn't mention this for obvious reasons, but seriously, if you are new to the Buffy world or if you've just never seen Angel, go do so!

Alias- At first I didn't think that this show was going to do it for me, but about half way through the first episode I changed my mind. I thought it would be good, but not nearly as good as Buffy or in the same way, but I was wrong. As the seasons progressed, it became an AMAZING show that included action, drama, romance and a little bit of fantasy. I truly love Alias and recommend it to anyone looking to recapture a tiny bit of the Buffy feel

Firefly- Well duh... if you are on this forum... you should know... and if you don't... you've read enough of us saying it's awesome that you should just go now and watch it!

Point Pleasant- Another short lived show. I really liked this one, it was Marti Noxin's original show, but got cut from... guess which chanel!?! after only 5 or 6 episodes. The DVD set includes all of the episodes, 12 or 13 total I think. But even though it's good, it is about as depressing to start as Firefly because you KNOW it's going to end soon

Books

Twilight- I know a lot of you don't like this book, and that is perfectly ok with me! But I really really did, it touched me in a way that no book EVER has. If I had to pick one thing that meant as much to me as Buffy, it would have to be Twilight. I originally didn't want to read it, I had heard a lot of complaints about it and was automatically biased against any kind of vampire fiction, after Buffy who needs more? But I was wrong, and I am happily one of those geeks who has read the books over and over and over and over! If you haven't read them you should at least give the first book a try, then you'll know if you hate it or love it!

Harry Potter- My original Buffy, I found Harry first. Harry's world is a magical place. The first book, and maybe the second are a bit kiddish, but worth the read. As the story progresses, the books get more "grown up" and believe me they are WELL worth getting to. Before Whedonesque.com I was a member of Mugglenet.com checking in daily for my JK Rowling fix. If you liked Buffy, and you enjoy a good fantasy book, give Harry a try!

Video Games

Final Fantasy X- I know that this sounds just a little strange, but there has been a video game that has meant as much to me as Buffy. It's Final Fantasy X and it has a sequel which isn't quite as good but just as fun to play Final Fantasy X2. It's an RPG that takes place in a world unlike anything you've ever seen! It's got love, magic, epic battles, good vs. evil and so much more. If you have a PS2, I think this game is $10 or $20 because it's a "greatest hits" and I would really give it a try!

That's all I can really think of for now. Again, this stuff may not be everyone's cup of tea, but all of the things I have listed have enriched my life and might do the same for you.

I adore Lost, adore adore adore, but there's something missing that i get with Buffy that i don't get watching Lost. and im talking purely from the experience of my first watch through of Buffy when it was on air. Lost does move me, it has moments that make me cry, or laugh, or get downright pissed haha. But... therwas a magic to Buffy i can't explain that Lost doesn't have.

I am also really getting into Dollhouse. Call it whedon bias, i dont care, but its captivated me so far.

I have to agree with video game love. ive been gaming since iwas 4. there are certain games and franchises (like Zelda, Metroid) which are very dear to me because i grew up with them. I also think when you are playing a game and controlling a hero as opposed to watching something happen to them in a plot you have no control of, there's a lot more invested.

Shows I love as much as I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer;
Angel
Ncis
Lost
24
Torchwood

and so far Dollhouse, Being Human and Fringe are pulling me in 🙂

These are shows I do not miss for anything 😉

I instantly knew that I would love this show.
Hard to explain why, but it's just some undefined quality that Buffy has that works for me.

There are other shows that I can't stop watching, Friends being the most notable.
I had a serious Friends obsession for several years and watched it daily during that time.

Also want to throw in Babylon 5 in the mix of shows that always will be special for me.
But I never got quite as obsessed with B5 as I did with Friends and Buffy.

A show must have the right "feel" to it for becoming one the great ones for me. I have never understand what that feeling is but I know it when I feel it. 🙂

Firefly has that right feeling for sure, I absolutely love that show. But since it got such a short run I find it hard to compare, who knows where it would end.
Lost is another one that is close, but it's missing something.

I'm optimistic though. I see no reason why I would not find another show sometime that gets me that feeling again.
Sure hope so anyway, but I'm not holding my breath, 'cause it's quite rare.

I don't think i'll ever love aanything as much as i love Buffy, sure there are shows i enjoy watching but they hardly compare. I think it's the writing i love, it's so clever and multi-layered. I love it how so many things connect and if you look deeper you'll find something you didn't notice before...plus it doesn't treat you like an idiot 😀

Buffy is special...

I like some other shows, like ER and Skins, alot but not nearly as much as Buffy. ER is close but just not the same. v.v

I like many shows but none have grabbed at my imagination like Buffy & Angel. Buffy will always be my favourite but Angel is brilliant as well due to the existance of the same writing style, the characters. It's just the way the shows are written and the performance each of the actors give.

There's just something about Buffy that pisses ovber every other program there is past, present and future 😛

It has everything all wrapped up in one neat little 40 minute package and it's inspired me and motivated me and healed me more than any other show.

i will never love a show as much as Angel and Buffy.

The closest show to them is NCIS. I also enjoy watching the amazing race and also bones to an extent. Also love Law & Order.

I am hoping to buy firefly and serenity soon and hopefully i will like them.
