Im not too into the comics, I tried to read a few but didnt really catch my interest. At any rate, I just wanted to check with all you comic-loving Buffy fans and see if Spike has shown up in any of the issues yet? Or any foreshadowing that he might be at some point? Let me know!
Not in any meaningful way, yet. The series is half-way over 21/40 and the only times we've seen Buffy's vampire ex-boyfriends have been in (minor spoilers)

And in case you didn't know, Spike has been a lead character in Joss Whedon's other canonical comic series After the Fall (which takes place before S8 in Los Angeles).

Joss Whedon and Scott Allie have said that they can use Spike and Angel as much as they want -- that that was part of the contract that led to Angel: After the Fall.
Actually it's the exact opposite. Being in comic form makes it easier. Much easier since they don't have to work Boreanaz' or Marsters' budgets or schedules into the mix. It's as simple as Joss deciding to bring them in.

So I'm definitely an Angel fan, and I love both the comics, but what bother's me is that I see Spike as a Buffy character... even though I was weird and totally wanted Spike and Illyria to be an item (note: I am aware of how ridiculously weird and far fetched that is), and liked his interactions with the Angel cast, I start to consider it more and more unbelievable that he isn't by Buffy's side. I don't think he and Buffy have the same problem that Angel did with Buffy, especially in that they can actually have sex, and I really don't see why they wouldn't be hanging out because I think they're capable of being friends even if a romantic relationship isn't in the cards. I mean, I know people move on, but Spike said that Buffy is the one thing he's ever been sure about, and if he's just okay with them not being around each other, I question whether or not that is true because I don't think Spike and Buffy have a "separated for our own good" complex.
Btw, this opinion is me assuming that Buffy must've found out he's alive by now. If she doesn't know, I think Buffy would actually be in her full rights to hate Spike and never talk to him....except that she inevitably would realize he thought he was doing something good, so she'd probably forgive him. I don't know, i just think Spike's reasoning was a bit cowardice, being afraid that he won't get her so he just won't even try, and it felt to me that this excuse was ONLY used because they wanted him on Angel, and that it wasn't entirely logical. Though I get he wanted to continue to prove himself to be more than a one-off champion, I would think he'd start helping the gang out.
Totally sorry for the rant, I just think Buffy and him should have some interaction. Actually I feel that they will definitely interact just because...well, how could they not? So i'm sure there will be a crossover soon.
Actually I have a question, would it be possible for Spike to permanently be in Buffy's comic? I'm not saying that that would be a good idea, but are there issues in the real world that would make that an impossibility, such as character rights?

Well there are a few things about Spike/Buffy. While Spike does love her more than he's loved anyone else, he never believed that she reciprocated (no matter what he might say to people like Angel, Xander or Riley), I mean his final words to her summed up what he thought:
BUFFY
I love you.
SPIKE
No, you don't. But thanks for saying it.
He clearly never bought Buffy loving Riley, but he knew for a fact that she loved Angel. I think Spike would fight for Buffy, he's even shown that he'd be more than willing to die for her, but given the deception kept up by Andrew & Giles, Spike thought everything was right as rain in Buffy's life and she was safe and having fun in Rome with Dawn (and when he thought she was in danger he rushed over there).
Then you have episode-to-episode reasons why he stood by Angel's side:
05x01-07: He literally couldn't leave LA, he was bound mystically.
05x08-12: Lindsey, Eve & Circ tricked him into thinking that he needed to stay to be TPTB's Champion in Los Angeles.
05x13-14: He continued to operate as a champion in LA, but started getting restless.
05x15-22: He decided to stay for two reasons, 1- He wanted to continue the fight against W&H in Fred's memory. 2- He found out that the real apocalypse was going down around Angel, and Spike wanted to tip the scales in Angel's (and general goodness's) favor.
After the Fall -
Again, he was physically trapped in LA mystically
So like James Marsters said himself, it actually made a lot more sense for Spike to be fighting by Angel's side than it did in most episodes of Buffy.
And remember, Buffy Season Eight is still more than a year ahead of After the Fall, (it's still 2004 in AtF) so it's still yet to be seen where Spike & Angel are in life during S8 which I believe first starts in 2006 and could be up to 2008 or 2009 during the current Predators & Prey Arc.
In a lot of ways, even post-After the Fall & post-Time of Your Life, Spike still makes more sense at Angel's side. IN TGIQ Spike said to Angel:

Look! I know I don't have a shot with her, all right? Probably never did, but I still care about her, and I'm not gonna let her end up with a jerk like The Immortal. Or you.
So if he doesn't think he has a shot at winding up with her, and he knows she has an army watching her back, what purpose would he have to rejoin her team? On the other hand, he knows that Angel, Illyria & Connor need him, and without him in AtF things probably would have fallen apart.
That being said, I hope that after Buffy S8 wraps up its 40-issue run and After the Fall/Aftermath/unnamed arc wraps up its run, that both series are consolidated into one, focusing on various Buffyverse characters.
After all, we already know how it ends, Buffy & Angel defeat all of Earth's Big Bads in the final battle for Earth.
I do not think you will see Spike, or Angel for that matter, before ATF is over. I have not read the comics myself, but from what i gathered ATF is set in earlier time zone than S8? Problem with that is that bringing character over from ATF to S8 then not only gives away survives, but also might give away ending.
Which I pretty firmly believe will happen at the end of season 8, since Joss just recently said one of his big goals with this season is to bridge the gap between "Chosen" and "Fray."
So if I'm right and the big Final Boss Fight happens this season, I'm assuming Angel & Co. (presumably including Spike) will be on the scene for it.
Yes, all the Buffyverse characters can be used by Dark Horse.
I feel sure the main reason they haven't been seen in season 8 is because Joss didn't want to spoil the outcome of After the Fall, in terms of who lived and who died.
I don't think so, because they originated on Angel, not BTVS. Isn't there something somewhere saying that only characters that originated on BTVS can be used by Dark Horse, so that would be people like Cordy, Wesley, Anne Steel, Harmony (obviously) But people like Connor, Gunn and illyria are out.

Not that I can remember. I haven't read many Angel comics, but I don't think Dark Horse owned the liecense. Although, I'm sure IDW didn't always own it either.

Ok so I checked the dark horse site and they did publish Angel, quite a few actually so I am wondering if they can use the Angel characters again because they did before? Kinda how NBC can show re-runs of Scrubs even though it moved to ABC?
white avengerI don't think that there would be any real reason why a Buffy/Angel crossover wouldn't occur.
There's no reason why Dark Horse and IDW couldn't reach an agreement to produce an Angel/Buffy crossover issue or even an arc of several coordinated issues under both titles. Marvel and DC have done it quite a few times, the first time teaming Luthor/Dr Octapus against Superman/Spiderman. It was so popular that they decided to make it an anual event. If I'm not mistaken, there was even a Justice League/Avengers crossover one year. Of course, that was quite some time ago, and I don't know if the crossovers are still being done, but , if they could do it, there is no reason why Dark Horse and IDW couldn't.
KeanOh I didn't mean that it was a reason that a crossover couldn't happen but more that if/when it does it be with limited characters from Angel
