Words you pronounce wrong

Do you have words that you pronounce wrong or that you used to pronounce wrong by mistake OR deliberately?

Everyone who pronounces "Bangel" with a hard "g" pronounces it wrong.

I used to pronounce 'absquatulate' wrong... lol, luckily it's not a word that comes up in conversation a lot 🙂 I'm sure there are a ton of others that I just can't remember right now but that one stands out in my memory.

I deliberately pronounce the "t" in the word "often," even though I think that's not correct. IDK why; I just like it. 🙂

I pronounce the word "status" as STAY-tus, but I think that may be a correct alternative pronunciation.

If there are other words that I mispronounce, nobody has called it to my attention. 🙂

I don't know if it's because you're American, but over here it would be weird NOT to pronounce the "t" in "often". The same with "stay-tus".

American's are fussy about how people in the UK say "length", we don't pronounce the "g", so it's "lenth".

whenever there are 2 words back-to-back starting with a "h", I never know how to say it. Like "he has". Should I pronounce the "he" or the "has" with a more flagrant h???

When I want to say "crap" because something's wrong and it's not always very polite sounding, I say "crip".

Everyone probably says a bunch of things 'wrong' because of accents and stuff. Like I pronounce things like Bath like er... well... bath... I dunno how to type it out, but I know a lot of people who say it Barth. Or Castle/Carstle. But I'm of the opinion I'm saying them right 'cause there's no R in it, but if I go down south I get told I'm saying it wrong 😛

I used to say parody wrong before I knew how it was said out loud. I put the emphasis on the RO for some reason. There's probably a load of others too.

I don't know if it's wrong or not but I kinda cringe when anyone says (trying to think how to spell it phonetically) hare-ess for harass (har-ass).

Pronouncing things differently because of accent isn't the same as pronouncing things wrong.
The way I pronounce "Bath" isn't wrong compared to people in London who pronounce it.

That's one thing that really annoys me. There's not one uniform way of speaking.
If you pronounce bath with completely different consonant sounds, then yes, you're pronouncing it wrong, and if it's totally different from the standard, you're pronouncing it wrong, but other than that, you're doing it right.

Obviously, it's different when it comes to people speaking different languages.

Sorry, I meant when I said about Bath that people aren't actually wrong, it's just accents. The only reason I say I'm 'of the opinion that I'm right' is because I argue with my southern friends about it, but I meant it in a joking way. We don't take each other serious 🙂 That's what I meant by 'Everyone probably says a bunch of things 'wrong' because of accents and stuff.' I don't think there's really one 100% right way to say anything. Sorry, I should have been clearer! It's just something I'm always told I'm saying wrong even though it's just accents.

Yeah I do. Or at least bits of it. Like there's a lot of 'whey', 'whey aye', and '____, man' around here!

Not really. I use the American form of 'schedule' though so I suppose that counts (incorrect for a British context, not saying you American folk are wrong).

I hate it when people mispronounce espresso though, there is no x damnit! Same goes for specific, it is not an ocean.

Where I'm from we say 'Baff' and 'Caaasel' so it could be worse 😛

I don't think there is such thing as a wrong pronunciation if it's due to an accent.

Haha, I used to have to sing in Italian in my choir, it's a lot harder than it looks! Spanish is easier though.

It took me about 6 years to know that video is suposed to be said like ve-deo instead of vi-deo (meaning pronouncing the i like an e).... I always thought that, since it's an i, it should be pronounced like an i...

it was kinda embarassing in L.A. when they kept telling me how to say it (and I'm supposed to be bilingual....)
