Working relation"ships"

You not the only one to ship Willow & Buffy 😀

Probably either Willow or Giles, especially during the earlier seasons

I think willow over Giles but I still think spike is a contender based on the fact willow gets distracted by her own life and issues but spike has a one track mind when he's with Buffy and stays on mission when needed.

That could also be a bad thing him being obsessed with Buffy like that.

A drawback with Spike was that he was mostly about "ok, who do I beat up?" which was an asset, but he had a hard time sitting on his hands when brute force alone wasn't going to get the job done. Willow had witch craft and computer skills that were critical for the long game.

The other issues was that Buffy trusted Willow more than she trusted Spike. She pulled in Spike when she needed a big gun, but she didn't generally trust him until late in the game.

Also Buffy could trust Willow not to get impatient doing something & mess it up .

I'm going by how things ended in season 7 and beyond rather than all the way through the series. Different people were most important at different times, but at the end of the series it was Spike and now in season 10 I think it is Spike again. But you know, season 11, whole new ball of wax.....

You right about Spike like you said but for most of the series if not the whole series Willow was Buffy go to girl.
After that Spike started getting better 🙂

Absolutely. Everyone gets their moment but overall It'll always be Willow.

I dont' have the comics, except an odd few so I can't speak to that.

I'm sticking with Willow because she was there and their working relationship was powerful from the get go, and she was also there to the very end.

Also, in my brain I'm defining working relationships on the overall quality of their communication and working together on defeating evil. Spike came in late to the game and wasn't trusted until he got the crap beat out of him.

One of the most critical things he did in S7 (other than save the world, lol) was his speech and support of Buffy when she was beaten and discouraged. I'm counting that as more of a personal relationship issue. Those are critical as well, but for the sake of the thread I'm counting them as two separate things.

I am also picking Willow - not because she's Buffy's go-to girl - but because unlike Spike, who is more muscle which is something Buffy already has, Willow can provide Buffy with things Buffy doesn't possess: magical powers, computer skills and her love for research. All qualities that Spike doesn't have.

Agreed. Buffy & Willow had different strengths & that what made them so good together. She was like Giles in research but she also had Computer & Magic skills as well.😀
