Who will be the surprise team of the tournament? Colombia

I have no real clue when it comes to football, I don't even know what countries are in it I'm afraid!
 
Can someone feel sorry for me? Cause now it's gonna be very dangerous in the center haha but I love the amount of foreigners we meet now. Like I've met two guys who came here all the way from Australia!!!!

I hope it will be England I want them to win the cup once in my lifetime.

Think France have a very good chance. They have a good depth of squad and a nice bland of youth and experience. With them the issue tends to be if they can gel as a team and squad come the big tournaments. Sometimes egos get in the way.

I mean because of Russia's history with things like racism, violence and their human rights record etc...


Another question for people to think about is...

With the likes of Italy and Holland not making the tournament does this make things more exciting and unpredictable? Or does this make the World Cup weaker for you?

The US hosted the World Cup in 1994. I think I was in 5th or 6th grade. Now of course for some stupid reason they only held games in Dallas (pfft that city sucks) but anyway I went to one game over there and a WC party. Even as a kid it was fun. The crowds are so rowdy. You would think growing up going to Futbol games in Mexico would prepare me but no way these fans are like x 100. (It was Argentina fans btw... ). I'm excited for 2026 North American games. I love the symbolism of all three North American countries co- hosting this event especially in light of a certain administrations insistence on creating conflict with our neighbors. I hope that by 2026 we are in a better place.

I know Brazil is favored but I look to Argentina to surprise in the tournament. Everyone knows this is the last shot Messi has in all likelihood. He is carrying the entire country's hopes on his shoulders. The question will be whether he rises to the occasion or whether he folds (and also whether he has enough help to overcome the odds). I secretly hope he can turn it out. I hate that in the neverending debate in Maradona v. Messi, Maradona gets to hold a WC over Messi's head.

Anyway, my team is Mexico. They actually have a decent team going in Moreno is an outstanding player, even if given less credit than Javier "Chicharito." But victory to me would be to get out of the group. We could face Brazil in second round and if so I kind don't even want to watch that massacre. Yikes! 🙂
 
Oh, I also want to add that I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

I usually go for countries that I like the look of, usually Holland, as it's bright orange colour has always stood out to me or countries I've been to, so it looks like this year I may be favouring Argentina!

Belgium is my pick to win. I am rooting however for Mexico or England.

@Mr Trick not sure that Colombia counts as a surprise team since they made quarterfinals last time, unless you're saying they'll be surprisingly disappointing.
Anyway my surprise team is Iceland. They're gonna turn some heads.

Leading scorer will probably be Ronaldo because he does the most for his team. James Rodriguez by the same logic.

Events off the field certainly have a high probability of becoming way too much. I'll say that.

Despite still being bitter about the US not qualifying, I'm happy about the triple NA host for 2026. Nothing will stop me from going.

Don't bother rooting for us, we'll never win! I don't root for us and I'm English, however if it were Wales playing then I would be supporting them.

I'll go with Germany, because they have the second shortest odds and I don't like cheering for the favourite.

If you insist, but I think you should feel sorry for those two Australians. We suck at Soccer and they have made a long trek to watch that suckage.

Ah I was joking. Nah, they enjoyed themselves, we bought them drinks and stuff and hey still an adventure
I am excited for the world cup now. I didn't think I would be but having some of the Fifa crooks locked up has restored some enthusiasm. Also I'm quite optimistic about England for the first time in at least 2 or 3 tournaments. That's not to say I think we can win, just that I'm impressed with the manager so far and think he'll send the team out to give it a good go and not embarrass themselves.

I think a lot of teams will genuinely fancy their chances and that makes it an interesting tournament. I could make a case for Brazil, Belgium, France, Germany, Argentina, Portugal or Spain to win it. Germany would be my bet. Unfortunately I have Tunisia and Switzerland in my sweepstake.

I actually think the trouble off the pitch will be minimal. This is a huge showcase / propaganda opportunity for Russia and I suspect the message will be made clear for people to behave themselves.
