World Cup 2018 thread: Let the Wars begin...

Ronaldo is a winning machine and I wouldn't put it past him to drag his team far into the tournament. Finally sitting down to a match and I'm going to have to suffer hearing Lawro 🙁

I agree, but if you think back to the Euros they didn't really win it because of Ronaldo (in fact him going off in the final proved a turning point). It was more their defence and a lot of luck. They are a very mediocre team IMO. If Spain had defended better last night I think they would have seen the game out.

Bloody VAR is every where in this match!🙄 Austrian will be very unlucky if they don't get a draw here. After the first ten minutes France have been piss poor.
 
Great effort from Iceland. Think 1-1 was about the right result. They should have a decent chance of finishing at least second in the group.
 
The Croatia Nigeria game was dreadful to watch. But I am definitely jumping on the Iceland bandwagon. That keeper should be their president.
 
Am interested to see what both Brazil and Germany have to offer today. Think Brazil's group could be very close. I wouldn't put it past the Swiss to give them a difficult time today.
 
Got the Swiss in the sweepstake. Think they'll cruise past Brazil no trouble. Shaq has premier league experience with the mighty Stoke after all.
 
Germany thought we were just going to roll over but here we are at nearly the halfway point leading 1-0. Vamos Mexico! 😉 Playing aggressive and GREAT defense!
 
Yay Mexico. Keep it up please and shame the hell out of these phonies aka 'the team'. Oh man, I want them to fail in the group match ups and then go home, having to explain this. This will be awesome, I can't wait for the dirt thrown at them. Serves them right.

We don't have a national team anymore. They erased the 'national' from it so now we just have a team. A team that supports dictator Erdogan and supports players that support Erdogan. Nevermind the eclat that certain players are only there because Löw has the same agent as them.

'The Team' is not patriotic (they play for Turkey not Germany), why should I be?

I'm over the moon. We played amazing defense. Memo was AMAZING!!! I wish we would have attacked more. We did miss some GREAT opportunities but we also CREATED good opportunities. I know Germany didn't play to their full potential but we played a solid game. I am very proud of El Tri.

Me and friends and family are currently celebrating Mexico's victory as well. We decided we'd rather BBQ than watch 'the team' so we had radio and live ticker only. If there had been public viewing, we'd have celebrated there.

I like to see upsets early in the World Cup. Mexico were fantastic today. I still think Germany will come back strong. But they've got improved massively on today's showing. Sweden should be good test for them. Important thing is its opened the group up and made it unpredictable.

On an England note why is Kane talking about what the pitch might be like tomorrow? Shouldn't he be worry about Tunisia and beating them? Its odd mentioning the pitch before you have even played a game.
 
Bet you could get good odds on both England and Belgium not making it out of the group😱

Today I will go: Sweden 2-0 South Korea, Belgium 3-1 Panama and Tunisia 1-2 England (Sterling and Cahill to get ours).
 
Great half from England. Fantastic display. Ruined by diving, feigning injury and abysmal officiating. Finish them off in the second half!
 
Get in there! Thoroughly deserved the win and Tunisia got exactly what they deserved. Worst officiating I've seen since Porto stole the Champions League all those years ago.

Yeah, shame because so far the officiating has been of a good standard in this World Cup. Like you I am mostly pleased with the performance tonight. One or two things to work on. Wasn't the best opposition, but those tests will come if we get much further. Job done for tonight. It will be a plus to win our second game and then relax a bit against Belgium.

The pick of the games tomorrow should be Japan against Colombia. Both play with good spirit and have a couple of flair players. Think Colombia should just edge it.

I wasn't going to watch the England match but ended up doing so. I'm glad they won and glad that it was Harry Kane that scored the winning goal, especially as he was dragged to the ground twice by Tunisian players and they never got pulled up on it.

Tunisia were playing dirty to night with the diving, faking injuries and dragging players to the floor. One of them was even refusing to move back so the free kick could be taken yet the referee did nothing. Even the VAR people did nothing about the blatant dragging to the grounds. Some of the Tunisia Football team are a bunch of cheaters.

It was nice hearing the England fans singing the national anthem and Rule Britannia.
