As there are quite a few European members I would like to ask them a question. How has the European Union affected you?

There are talks that the United States, Canada and Mexico are forming a North American Union. There are videos circulating of the "Real Id" and the Amero. Things that could drastically affect us here. The V-Chip in the "real id" alone is huge. Tennessee, the state where I live is one of few states opposing this and by May, our drivers license could be useless to gain entry to federal buildings and to board planes.

I usually try very hard not to buy into conspiracy theories or propaganda, but some of the things that I've read and seen lately are too hard to ignore.

Anyway, I'm asking how it has affected you, because they are comparing it to the European Union.

It's also being specualted that once the North American Union is formed, there will be an African and Asian Union and the 4 Unions will form a World Government. As this board is the most diverse board I frequent, I am wondering what everyone thinks about this.

Well from an Irish view point joining the union has been fantastic. We joined in 73 and really at the time the country was unbelievably poor, however since the union Ireland has become the wealthiest nation in the world. I suppose poorer nations benefit from it more than the bigger nations. The jobs it has created and the education standards, especially university level have been out of this world. Also we were still able to maintain our neutrality, well to a certain extent anyway. So the Union gets a yay vote from me.

Karma for a pro point of view!

Jealous that Ireland did really well out of the EU...but well done you guys :)
Thanks for your response. All ready I'm a bit more educated! We have a huge problem with conspiracy theorists that tend to blow things totally out of proportion. Every thing I've read on this has been very negative. That's why I was curious how it really is for the rest of the world.

Well like I said smaller nations seem to benefit far more from the Union. If you asked someone from the UK how they felt about it you might get a very different response.

I used to mock all that globalism, new world order, illuminati, stuff, but the more I look around, and listen it gets harder to deny there does seem to be something there. How much, or what it all means, I don't know. I'm not converted yet, but they do have me interested. I got bored recently and watched that Alex Jones documentary EndGame.

EndGame - Part 1 at YouTube

Now Alex Jones is pretty far out there on some stuff, but by the end of the film he managed to freak me out a bit, I must admit. If all that stuff about the Texas toll roads and the secrecy around who's really in charge is true, he makes a pretty persuasive argument that something is going on the average American wouldn't want (or Canadian for that matter). The European union stuff in the film makes you want to think too.

Jones also has a website.

http://www.prisonplanet.com/

It's worth a peek.

As far as the main question of the thread goes, I can't speak to the European union thing, but I'm not happy with NAFTA.

I've read on Snopes that the North American Union is, to use the technical term, a complete load of old bollocks (for those of you who don't know, Snopes is the Urban Legends Reference Pages and I've always found them to be very reliable and accurate)

Have a look at these articles -
http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/nau.asp

http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/amero.asp

Having said that, I personally think that the EU is a superb concept but it's a shame it's run by politicians 🙂 On an even more personal note the EU has pretty much stuffed up my job...but that's a story for another message board 😉

While the NAU maybe an "Urban Legend" the "Real Id" is very much real. Like I stated before, my state is actively opposing the "Real Id" as much as possible. If it isn't resolved by May, then our id's are pretty much worthless. Supposedly, the creation of the real id is to battle terrorism and crime, but it is actually a very scary idea to those of us who do value our freedom.

The steps have all ready been taken to utilze the real id. Starting this year, all tv is being switched from open air waves, to digital, so the waves can be used for the v-chip in the real id. The chip is what will grant us access to our accounts and other vital information. Theoritically, if one commits a crime, then their chip can be turned off, thus, turning them off from everything.

When I first saw this video on Youtube I thought "what a bunch of crap." Then I was watching my local news the other day and they had a story on about how Tennessee is opposing the Real ID. It was this that caught my attention and sparked me to do research on this whole thing.

Like N4H said, I was skeptical, but the more little things I see in the news the more I wonder what is really going on.

The idea we know the totality of what the endgame is in the trade linking of America, Canada, and Mexico is may be conspiracy theory, but the idea something is going on, no, that's fact.

Whether or not the wilder conspiracy talk is true of what the 3 leaders discussed in Waco is true, they did meet.

What the leaders agreed to was the creation of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), a "dialogue to increase security and enhance prosperity among the three countries."

What does that really mean, and is it the final connection between the 3 countries, or the beginning of something larger planned?

There really is a NAFTA

There really are plans for a NAFTA super highway.

There really was a secret meeting involving higher ups of the 3 countries in Banff Alberta

We might not know the whole truth about what the Bilderberg group talks about, but we do know they held secret talks in Ottawa

And it isn't just wild-eyed conspiracy theorists who are talking about stuff like a North American Union anymore. Do you guys get Lou Dobbs on American CNN over there?

I saw the piece on Lou Dobbs where the DOT okayed the use of American highways for Mexican truck drivers. Meaning that our highways are open for them. Before they could only come so far into the country to deliver a shipment, and then it was transferred to an American feight company. They are saying that it is only a 1 year project, perhaps to try out the proposed NAFTA Super highway?

Oh yeah, and they approved this idea in the middle of the night, during a conference call. At around 9:00pm. That means that not only are trucks and drivers utilizing our highways that don't meet the safety standards, but also god knows what drugs are now being brought into the country.

Just a few months ago, government officials were trying to tell us that potential terrorists where able to come into the US across the Mexican border, and now they've opened the border up for anyone to come thru.

Here's the Lou Dobbs piece I was talking about.

So whataya think, Evilyn? Ron Paul? Is he the answer? A lot of people seem to think so.

Honestly, I don't know what or who the answer is. I really don't think another Texas Republican is the answer. I mean, isn't it a little suspicious that he wants to abolish Federal Income Tax and other Federal agencies? I think he is an extremist and a racist and he would just be another figure head like Bush. Honestly, who is the right candidate? I guess that's the question though and I don't have an answer.

I've done some cursory research into this topic. Nothing major. Of course, I've heard about this and the American Union before. I'm ashamed to say I haven't followed it very closely.

I am a bit skeptical about this "chip" idea "turning everything off," though. Where are you getting that information? I've heard about a barcode that can be scanned. I can imagine a lot of different uses for that, airport and federal building security being high on the list. I can also imagine a lot of really scary uses for that. Identity theft comes to mind. One thing that *doesn't* come to mind is automatically barring criminals from digital media. Can you please post a link to your source?

Okay, I'd like to edit. Here, (http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/privacy/privacy_pia_realidfr.pdf) I did find a provision stating that access to federal information systems could possibly be controlled in such a way.

Media Protection (MP): Organizations must: (i) protect information system media, both paper and digital; (ii) limit access to information on information system media to authorized users; and (iii) sanitize or destroy information system media before disposal or release for reuse.

That's a far cry from common, everyday media like digital TV, though.

Speaking of Ron Paul though. It's interesting what he has to say about a North American Union. It probably just politics of course, (he is trying to run for President), but he seems to think there's more to NAU talk than a conspiracy theory.

YouTube - Ron Paul Talks about North American Union

On the Ron Paul's a racist talk that recently popped up, I'm always suspicious of misdirecting away from talking policy through ad hominen attacks. What I mean is you didn't hear this Ron Paul's a racist talk, then people began to actually listen to his policies via the internet, and all of a sudden Ron Paul was a racist.

This is an interesting video that is making it's rounds.

This is the link to the FCC site that confirms over-the-air tvs are a thing of the past and everything is going digital.
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html

The "turning off" that I speak of is the fact that with the chip inside the card, if your driver's license is suspended, then they can turn off the chip inside the card and hence, you can't access your bank accounts. That is all, once again, theoretically speaking.

Edit:

Oh, I was going to link the first video to Zeitgeist the movie, because that is where it is from. Granted, like I said, it's conspiracy theory, but this is something that is very much possible. There are so many different things that I've read realted to all of this in the last few days, it would be hard to link it all.

Ron Paul: not a racist. The whole thing has been blown way out of proportion, not to mention being a 12-year-old story. There used to be newsletters published under his name that he really didn't control or look at (not smart, I agree) that released lots of racist propaganda. As soon as he realized what was going on, he had the whole thing shut down and apologized. He apologized again last year when it came up, and this year he's done apologizing and is getting angry because he's NOT a racist and he's sick of people implying that he is.

Anyway, as I've mentioned before, I am voting for Ron Paul because a) he's the most consistent person in terms of voting record and belief; b) he wants to shrink government back to the size dictated by the Constitution; and c) he seems much more trustworthy than any of the other candidates (not that anyone in politics is very trustworthy).

Sure, he's "another Texas Republican," but he's not an oil man, so it wouldn't be nearly the same thing. And he doesn't believe in world domination the way Bush and Huckabee do.

Okay, I'm confused about Ron Paul being called a racist. As I understand Paul, he's a Libertarian trying to get a main party nomination because no one running as a Libertarian could win. Doesn't being a Libertarian kind of focus less on groups and more on individualism? I thought that, due to his individualist ideas, he opposed policies that specifically involve race. Wouldn't that make him, at least in terms of policy, the opposite of racist? Do we even have a word for someone who supports policy that doesn't consider race? Even if he does personally carry some racist prejudices, who cares about how he feels personally (even if he publishes it) when what he supports publicly are programs that wouldn't allow those biases to come into play?

That said, I do see where some of you are coming from with this conspiracy theory stuff. I sincerely doubt the truth is quite as 1984 as the conspiracy theorists are making it sound, but I can see how several under-the-radar programs (Real ID, The American Union, microchip technology, etc.) could be linked. I knew about all of them on some level and they do all give me an uneasy queasy feeling, but not because I think we're going to wake up in a dystopia novel come 2020. I don't think the link here is so much an evil World Government overlord sort of plot so much as I think it's just paranoia run amok. I think Americans have been freaked out ever since 9/11 and that we're urging our government to make visible changes that will make us feel safer (even if they won't actually make us safer). I think that's the common denominator, not some New World Order type conspiracy.

Exactly!
I figured something out yesterday. The extreme Conservatives are trying to drag us into 1984. The extreme Liberals are trying to drag us into Brave New World. So far, we've stayed fairly balanced, so while nobody's happy, we're still relatively free. But I dread the day one or the other party takes complete control of the government. I hope the world ends before that happens, honestly. A meteor should do the trick. Or a zombie plague.

Okay, I'm confused about Ron Paul being called a racist.

Did you see that thing on, I think it was either 60 minutes, or 20/20, last week were they were interviewing these guys who's job it was to dig up obscure facts from political oppositions' past, and through media manipulation they would sabotage that oppositions campaigns with innuendo? That's what seems to have happened with Ron Paul.

I'm not really into this yet, so I just pick up bits and pieces, but my impression is the story went something like this. Back in, it was either the 80s, or the 70s, somebody ran a Ron Paul newsletter. Somebody else dug through all the old posts from that newsletter, and found some comments presented as racist. Ron Paul disavows any personal connection to the newsletter, and says he's not a racist. Too late though, the damage is done. See how clever these guys are. Their target becomes guilty by innuendo.

Ron Paul's real crime was he got popular with internet voters, and began to look like he might be politically viable. Not electable, but he was starting look like he might have some political influence. The opposition couldn't have that, so they sicced their dogs on him.

Even if he is not a racist, which I have yet to see or not see, I still think that everything he wants to do is a little extreme and too good to be true. We've all heard the no more taxes stuff before. And I don't think that totally shutting the country away from the rest of the world is the answer.

Basically, I don't trust any of the candidates and I am trying harder to educate myself on which one is the lesser of the evils. I've pretty much kept my head buried in the sand when it comes to politics, I admit, ashamedly so. Not that I haven't done my voters duty, because I have. It's just that now that I have a child, I realize how much politics affect me and my family.
