Would you pay to see a Buffy movie....

PERSONALLY, I would NOT. I think Joss would be making the mistake of a lifetime to subject Buffy fans to a movie, and then deprive them of the person that made that character so memorable. I WOULD BE SO GOSH DARN MAD if they went ahead with a Buffy movie without ALL of the original cast.. And it's on that note that I accept no Buffy movie because I realize what it must be to gather everyone after so long to do something new. I wouldn't want it half-assed or have any cast member changed at all. I keep reading that she has no desire to come back and play Buffy, and to be honest after my research my opinion on her has harshened (is that a word??) a little bit because of it. I understand a person might not want to go through life only being known for 'being' one person, but if you're really in the business for fans, why not please your fans? I also read she ducks out of fan events as fast as she can too, etc.. 🙁


ANYWAY back to my initial question, would you support a new Buffy movie with a different Buffy actress? Why/why not?

BTW I'm sure this topic has been done before but it really doesn't hurt to get more opinions 🙂 I REALLY needed to get that out anyway hehe.

No, absolutely not! But then again a Buffy movie would never get made with someone other than SMG playing that role (well again...the 1992 movie not withstanding), Joss has said he wouldn't do it that way anyway, so its not something we ever need to worry about.

As much as I know that it wouldn't be the same, and I would possibly walk out feeling very weird, there is no possible way I could kid myself or anyone else into thinking that I wouldn't go see the movie the day it came out. This isn't saying that I want them to do it, I'm still unsure about how I feel about this. All I'm saying is that I'm addicted to Buffy and that addiction would mean that I wouldn't be able to go very long without dying to see it.

I wouldn't want a Buffy movie with any other actor playing the same character. Movies I can understand but these people have had the same faces for 7 years, it's too much to ask for us to ignore that. I even had a problem with a new wife in the 3rd Mummy movie, when an actor doesn't come back it always puts a downer on the movie, feels like the movie is more about money if they move forward without original actors. If SMG wasn't there I'd spend too much of the time adjusting to it.

I go to the cinema like twice a week and watch utter crap so why not give it a go. I mean I paid to see Cloverfield and that was beyond terrible!

I would pay to see it, but I wouldn't go with the idea of seeing someone else try to imitate Sarah playing Buffy, if that makes any sense. I would go in with the expectation of seeing a different actor's interpretation of the role, mush the same as I went to see different actors play Batman, and pray that we didn't get the Buffy version of George Clooney.

Buffy as a movie if Joss is given all the controll he wants then I would pay to see it, but SMG would have to be init as Buffy, otherwise I would pretend it was never made.

It would just seem wrong , they would have to act soon because they could leave it to late and SMG would be to old for the part.

I don't know, maybe. If it did happen I think I would spend the entire thing bitching about how 'different' and 'weird' it is without the cast we watched for 7 years. In alot of ways, for me anyway, it wouldn't be Buffy.

As far as the Joss thing goes, no way. If in twenty, thirty years time some eejit decideds that they are going to do a remake of the show in movie form (a la Starksy and Hutch and Charlie's Angels) I will freak out. The story has been told, brilliantly, we do not need any pretenders messing it up.

I know that if Joss (or even some of the more respected of the writing team, with his consent) were behind it, I'd give it a good chance. I'd trust that they would handle the shift well. I would obviously prefer it to have the original cast, but I'd give it the benefit of the doubt.

However, if they went down the Season-8-group-of-new-slayers, or the similar-to-Fray-slayer-at-another-point-in-time route, I'd definately be excited, even if there is not a single member of the original cast. Just, so long as they don't pull a "The Girl in Question".

Erm... wouldn't James be a much bigger liability in terms of "too old for the part" than Sarah? After all, Buffy does age, even if the thought of a 40 year old Buffster has its strangeness, it's far less of a problem than a quite visibly aged Spike...

If the current remake-crazy trends last ("screw atmosphere! forget actor chemistry! we've got CG-f***ing-I effects!") that's unfortunately a very serious possibility. Sort of makes one wish that the world will come to an end on Dec 21, 2012. 😀

Yeah I would probably give it a chance. The story would be good, but it would have to have the actors in it, that were there during the show itself. And as for the vampires time is running out, because I doubt they can't keep them looking the same forever. If they'd get the original cast together for one last film, I'd say it be actually a magnificent piece of film. Would definetly be better than that 1992 film ^^

I still hope they don't make a movie at all. The show doesn't need one, and the comics are bad enough as it is.

That being said, I'm sure I'd pay to go see it because obviously if you're a fan of the show you'd HAVE to see it, even if just to prove your own theory that it'd suck...

As much as I want to agree with you on an emotional level, on a more logical level, that might not necessarily be true. Many fictional characters have been portrayed by a succession of actors. To name but a few: Dr Who, Tarzan, Zorro, Superman, Batman, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, the Lone Ranger, Robin Hood, and Dracula. The character of Buffy Summers could join that list quite easily.
