Would you pay to see a Buffy movie....

Gaah I agree with you 100%. I refuse to watch the 3rd Mummy movie, and anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE them, but they replaced a core character! Ugh.. It definitely reeks of love for money, not fans or story.
 
To be perfectly honest, none of the actors in Buffy are that great. I mean, most of the acting is pretty campy, especially in the first couple of seasons. And while I love Sarah as Buffy I'm pretty confident there are actresses who would do a better job.

That being said, if the movie was a continuation of the show, I'd dislike it if Sarah weren't playing Buffy. But if it were sort of a reboot, like the new Star Trek film would be, then a new actress would be fine, as long as Joss Whedon was writing (and hopefully directing).

I gotta agree with your first paragraph. I do enjoy every actor in the Buffyverse, but there are some moments, you know?
I might rent it once it came out, but only out of pure curiosity's sake.
I can pretty positively guarantee that I wouldn't like it, though.

To name but a few: Dr Who, Tarzan, Zorro, Superman, Batman, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, the Lone Ranger, Robin Hood, and Dracula. The character of Buffy Summers could join that list quite easily.

Maybe, but not now, years from now when SMG is like 40 or 50 and it would not be viable for her to be playing the part, maybe then. But while she is around and capable, a substitute just wouldn't be recieved well.

How exactly does one enjoy a show when they feel the actors are incompetent?

Wow, so...thanks so much for putting words in my mouth!

I never said they were incompetent. I liked them just fine. But that doesn't mean their acting was ever award-worthy. And all of the characters could easily be played by someone else who could do a better job.
 
I'd totally support it because it would be Joss making it. I'd watch anything that Joss created. Also, yeah, no one will ever replace SMG (or any other actor for that matter), and I'd be really pissed... at first, but it's still Buffy, and it's still Joss. Why wouldn't I support it?
