Wrap Party?

I can't confirm anything about the film but at least 2 cast members were not pleased about the show ending. AH was not impressed in the least
On the other hand, she did say in at least one interview that it "felt like it was time."

As far as people still whining over SMG not going to the wrap party, I'm not hung up on her, but I sure have to wonder how so many people can have so little concept of those little things called "contracts." Apparently, she flew out the same day she shot her last scenes on Buffy, which is a pretty good indication that she was expected to start work then. Funny thing about "work"; in the Real World, if you don't show up when you're supposed to, it tends to disappear.

And if Scooby Doo disappeared would it be such a bad thing?

I'm well aware that the girl had to work and believe understand the concept of a contract thank you very much BUT that doesn't mean we can't talk about this and why couldn't she somehow work around the two when the contract was being drawn up?

oh and I saw that interview, its letterman or something...I was talking about more around the time it actually ended than recently

No; the movie sucked rocks, but that's irrelevant where contractual obligations are concerned, now, innit? And getting a reputation for not showing up or taking off in the middle of a shoot could cause more than just that movie to disappear. SMG's not a big enough name yet to get away with much of that.

Do you know when the contract was drawn up? No, and neither do I, but there's generally a considerable lead time between signing for a film and the actual start of production. It's not in any way likely that the party was planned and scheduled before Sarah's film contract was done. Once a shooting schedule is set, it's not like a counter clerk taking a day off from the local McDonald's - a day here and a day there adds up to real money, real fast, and maybe you can work it out and maybe you can't; there are lots of other people's schedules involved, too, and some producers might not find even that party worth the trouble and expense of making those arrangements. Bottom line is: None of us discussing this subject were privy to any of the details; all we can do is make assumptions, and you know what they say about that. So, sure, we can talk about any subject we want, but that means I can put in my two cents' worth, too, which is: what's wrong with putting a little thought into the subject also?

Just to add fuel to the fire for pure entertainment purposes 😉...Seth Green was at the wrap party. He was also working on ScoobyDoo 2.

Q - Have you started Scooby 2 yet?

Seth Green - Yeah, I just flew in this morning. I finished work at five this morning, was on a flight at six and I haven't really slept yet so I'm a little delirious right now.

Q - Is it like a big reunion with Sarah Michelle Gellar?

Seth Green - Yeah. We actually haven't worked together yet, but I think she's great and I look forward to working with her whenever I get the opportunity.

Buffy Wrap Party

I guess if she was on the call sheet she had to miss the wrap party... but yeah it appears disrespectful when you don't know the story. I thought SD2 was shot in Canada.. knew the first one was in Australia.
She was interviewed for Buffy a fair bit, the only part in the DVDs are from the doco in season 6 though.
I swear there is a photo floating around with the entire cast of Angel season 5 with SMG... I just can't find it anymore. I know it wasn't a dream! lol

Does anybody remember that one when Freddy Prinze was beaking off about SMG not getting sufficient resepect after she single handedly made roles for strong female characters possible? It was something like that anyway. Wasn't that just before the wrap party. It spoke of sour grapes, and hard feelings, I remember that much.

You know what bugged me about SMG? It wasn't the wrap party. It wasn't even the way she decided to divorce herself from anything Buffy. She has a right to make what she considers good business decisions for herself. What really bugged me though was the hypocrisy of basically telling Buffy fans they didn't exist for years, then during the promo campaign for The Grudge she comes back, and all of a sudden she's their best buddy. The Grudge was a Buffy audience, you see. She was even appearing at conventions (something I'd never seen her do before) riding in on her connection to BTVS. She was only too happy to discuss all things Buffy at that time, when I, at least, got the impression she'd told the people at talk shows, and SNL not to bring up the name Buffy previously. Then there was that BS comment about how if Joss first wrote a Buffy movie script, she might deem to read it, and if it met her standards she might consider the role. Yes, that's the way Hollywood works, but she knows that's not the way Joss works. He won't make the show without the original actors. He checks to see if they're interested before he starts writing. So what was she really saying? Was she saying she didn't think Joss Whedon could write a competent script, or was that just a coded message to Joss telling him she wasn't interested. There's better ways to do that I think.

Didn't she make some comment about Joss not writing anything for her? Someone asked what she thought of Serenity and was she asked to be a part of it and she gave this sort of 'Joss didn't write any roles for me' sort of weird answer. Personally I think she left Buffy thinking she was going to be the next Meryl Streep and that didn't quite happen did it? Buffy made her a star and she should have shown some pride about that, something that she is only doing now, right before her new movie comes out.

Look obviously something about this has pushed a button or too so I'll just finish it with this, gives you more time to go and be thoughtful. This was a harmless discussion amoung Buffy fans who felt SMG was being disrespectful to the show, which she has been know to do on occasion. Quite frankly I don't care what her schedule was or the details of her contract, she would have known when the show ended and that a wrap party would happen pretty soon after, thats all I'm saying. I don't care if I'm wrong or right it's just how I feel about this practicular topic. All it was was a discussion, you do not need to get involved if your intention is to insult the people carrying out this conversation. It's not what these boards are for, it's to give our opinions on BUFFY not for your opinions of me, which by the way you don't know, so like you said, leave your assumptions at the door.

I've always had a morbid attraction to this particular topic. I try to avoid it, but I'm rarely successful. The thing is I get it. I get both sides.

First there's the one that goes this is all just gossip. As such it deserves disdain. Well it is just gossip. There's no real, hard proof SMG disrespects BTVS, or any of the other people involved with it. The decision to separate herself from the Buffy stigma could be a business one, and not without functional merits from her POV. Whenever SMG has discussed BTVS she's done it with overt respect. The people who have worked with her always speak of her with great respect. As far as the actual evidence goes it's all about mutual respect.

But then there's the side that goes "I don't care if it's gossip. I want to know". Buffy fandom is a community. In a community there's gossip. It's this thing we humans do. Although there's no hard evidence SMG disrespects the show that made her, it's real easy to get that impression.

Personally I'm of the opinion gossip may get ugly, but it has it's use. When one has a personal connection to something (even fandom) one doesn't want to feel misused. There's a personal protection aspect, and a more social, protection of the community flavor. There's this need to want to be able to tell the good guys from the bad guys. It's often inaccurate, finds itself addressing stuff that has nothing to do with protection, and can lead to a bigger problem than the one it addresses. Nevertheless it's primal.

For example with SMG. There won't be any future TV or movie Buffy without her. Why not ask the question do we really need her? If one feels a personal connection to the show it feels like a valid question. The only thing really preventing an all out campaign for Buffy without SMG is this opinion birthed out of affection for SMG that only she can be Buffy. But what if she's not? What if it's more like she doesn't like us, so who really needs her? Scarlet Johansen (or fill in the blank) would make a great movie Buffy.
