Writing Buffy Novels

Hey gang.
If you ever wanted to write a Buffy novel, do you send the manuscript directly to the publisher? How would you do that? Has anybody ever asked this question?
 
Most publishers require the manuscript to be sent in by an agent although some don't. The agent ensures that someone had read it and considered it worthy to be published (at the risk of his reputation if it isn't) and there is no possibility of being charged with plagiarism if they decide to publish something similar. There is also the question of having the rights to use the Buffy name and the names of the characters and specific places such as The Bronze or Sunnydale High. I am not sure if Joss has given any kind of blanket approval to use his characters at no cost although it would be s good strategic move for him as there would be publicity to be gained from having a lot of books out there. I would check with companies that have published Buffy books before.
 
And depending on who you want to publish the book, what country is the publisher in. Also with the Beta readers, what country are they in as Canada, America and England have different forms of English.

You have to pitch the book - it's a franchise operation. They won't even open an unsolicited manuscript because of legal issues. Get an agent, draw up a pitch, and then go for it. How do you get an agent if you are completely new to the field? Start smaller than a franchise novel to build a resume, or write the most kick-ass pitch ever.

Oh, and realize you will have to rewrite the entire novel at least once because you will have no idea of what you are saying until it's written.

I've thought of trying to write a Buffy novel too! They haven't had a new one for like ten years or so I think
