X (formerly Twitter) to charge new users to post

Good. If it helps get rid of some of the bots. I wish Reddit would do something to remove them as well, but those are actually Reddit bots. And it's only for 3 months. Not a big deal.

True. Reddit has gotten horrible with the botting issue. Partly why I don’t even bother going there anymore. The Dead Internet Theory gets more and more plausible every day.

Honestly the bots are the least of my worries. They need better ways to combat AI, period. Fake videos, images, voices. And, if you're creative enough in the setting, etc, you don't have to worry about uncanny valley very much at all. There will be lives lost because of AI. Potentially a lot of them. Bots are but a nuisance.
 
We are not far off being unable to trust any video or photo. Or anything we haven't seen in person.

After I got banned from the platform formerly known as Twitter for the double crime of being a liberal who rarely posted.
I wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to re-join the rotting husk of what used to pass for social media.
And I'm definitely not gonna support anything owned by Elon Musk-Ox and Co. No thank you very much! 😒

For the record, X-men wannabe owners of Twitter claimed that I was banned for spamming, but offered no proof - even when asked repeatedly
I rarely posted much of anything, much less anything political/controversial, and definitely nothing even closely resembling spam.
Also no one who knows me on there messaged me about my account being hijacked by spammers.
They told me that lotsa liberals & non-posters were getting the boot since Elon Musk-Ox & Co. took over

Political/controversial tweets are like a sweet nectar to me. And I indulge frequently, though not on my main account. Frankly, Twitter is a cesspool and even if I were banned, I really wouldn't care that much.

I agree it's better...for awhile they were banning pretty much anyone who expressed a "conservative" political view, which was utter bullshit. But now the tide has turned. 🥳

Damn, I used to be on Facebook a lot! Yes, they banned two of my accounts awhile back, but because they SUCK these days, I don't care. Can't remember the last time I posted anything there. It's such a dinosaur now, kinda like MySpace...

when you're trying to whore out your products and it gets automatically tied to your IG and then they expect you to whore out all of your differing products under one account and you try to create an account for each item you're trying to whore out and they ban you, it's crap. And I really HATE that they force you to use five different email accounts and you are fine doing that for nearly a year but then they catch you and without warning merge them all together in one account thus deleting completely FOUR accounts from which you've been whoring products and now only your personal account is valid. It's crap. You should be able to create business pages that are not associated with your personal page. Or create multiple business pages without fear of them being eradicated simply because they are all accessed from the same IP. Meta sucks. At least with Twitter I can have multiple business accounts without fear.

I started avoiding X a little while ago, as I thought the new regime required you to be registered even to read posts. But what they are proposing here, a small fee for three months, doesn't sound unreasonable. Though I'm sure some of the bot owners will be willing to pay it.
