I started avoiding X a little while ago, as I thought the new regime required you to be registered even to read posts. But what they are proposing here, a small fee for three months, doesn't sound unreasonable. Though I'm sure some of the bot owners will be willing to pay it.

Now if you check a page, it'll either invite you to sign-up/login, or be a mish-mash of old posts.

The problem here is if a company is issuing alerts/updates via Twitter (sorry, X), you can't view them if you don't have an account.

By now, Elon Musk has realized that he overpaid for Twitter but he knows there are a lot of people like influencers, political pundits and the crowd of writers, artists, musicians and others who need a platform for their views and will gladly pay for the right to present their views. It used to be if you handed off a manuscript to a publisher, they read it and made a decision based on how good it was. Now they ask for all aspects of your internet presence and your online marketing plan. Where it might not work at is gaining new members. I was never on Twitter/X and don't feel like I have been missing anything. I do approve of his firings of the woke mob and reversing decisions to ban people like Jordan Peterson. That needed to be done.

Facebook and Instagram have been like that for ages. I didnt know twitter was too now. I had been linking to posts all over the place! NowI know they wont work ha.

The shire put firebans and bushfire and emergency alerts on facebook and just expected everyone to have it. But when Facebook banned the aussie media for a day or two, there was mass meltdown behaviour all over Australia. They all realised how much they relied on it, shire pages, community pages, everything gone. Now notices are spread out over a lot more platforms.

This year especially, X is where I get a lot of my breaking news. Anything big happening hits there first. It can some times take days for the Aussie media to catch up. If it even covers those stories at all.

Any earthquake or tsunami, or terror attack is reported near on straight away. If there is a truck crash on the highway, a fire locally or livestock blocking roads, its on X fast and first. And that is a service I actually would pay for.

Especially if they got rid of all the people trying to censor everything, saying dont share info til the authorities do, or dont share videos!

What I see as odd is why E. Musk refuses to delete the video of a bishop being attacked with a knife in Australia. It is all over the news here, there are even calls from a politician for him to be sent to prison!

It's dumb Australia thinks we can force the Internet or TwiX censor this stuff. Its not one video, its dozens, that has been copied hundreds of times and shared thousands more.

I saw both stabbings first on X, before the news picked it up. Same with the earthquakes, tsunami and volcano. The Aussie media uses the footage posted in their own "breaking news" hours later anyway.

With the introduction of streaming tv, many people dont have the tv or radio running all day to keep up with the news cycle. Its not the only option now. The Australian news media is afraid of that.
