Xander Has A Thing For Buffy

Xander has always had a thing for buffy. When he dated Cordy she knew that he had a thing for her


CORDELIA: Oh, right. Your obsession with protecting Buffy. Have I told you how attractive that's not?

and I think that Anya also new

When things get rough, he just hides behind his Buffy Now look, he's gettin' huffy.
Cuz he knows that I know (from omwf)

I know that he loved Anya but did he still have a thing for Buffy

What Do You Think?
 
Well, he didn't exactly make a secret out of it! At least back in high school, before he was dating Cordelia. He was actively trying to get Buffy to date him in s1, so I'm convinced everyone knew.
Later after high school when he was with Anya, I don't think he actually was in love with Buffy anymore. Of course, with him hating every guy Buffy dated even then makes it look a bit suspicious, but I feel like they rather grew into a brother-sister relationship in which Xander felt like he had to protect her.
The "When things get rough, he just hides behind his Buffy, now look, he's gettin' huffy, cos he knows that I know" isn't about love at all, in my opinion. I thought she rather wanted to imply that xander isn't that brave and not a fighter.
 
I was talking about this with a friend the other day, actually.

I agree with Kristine. After Season 3, it's not really bought up, and I think Xander's attitude towards it really changes. From season 4 onwards I think they really start behaving like best friends or brother and sister.

And yeah, I always took that line from OMWF as being a dig at Xander's masculinity!
 
Oh come on,it was obvious he had the hotties for buffy.

In when she was bad,when Buffy was dancing with him,he was like a dog looking through a butchers shop window,without the glass.

everyone knows he had a crush on Buffy, obviously in the earlier series of course.
Then obviously they grow up, and xanders feelings change , he starts Loving Buffy as family.

I think Xander will always have something for Buffy, but by Season 7 he is mature enough to know that all there will be is a close relationship, he will always want to protect her. :thought:I can imagine him having a wife and kids and they have to call her Aunty Buffy!!!
 
Yea I live in hope of some Bander action 😛 I think it would be fun to watch, it wouldn't work, but it would be fun. I think at this point it would kinda be like Joey and Rachel in friends when they tried to hook up.... train wreck.
 
I think that Xander did have a thing for Buffy in the beginning when he was dating cordealia. But once Anya came along Xander realized he didn't have a shot with buffy and he had something good going with Anya.
 
See I don't think he quit with Buffy because he realised he never stood a chance, I think he quit with Buffy because his love for grew beyond that type of love and into something more powerful and more everlasting. I don't think Xander would date Buffy now if she begged, he would be to afraid of losing the mutual respect and love that they have.
 
Whereas I try not to believe that he still felt anything for Buffy whilst he was with Anya (I mean, clearly Anya and Xander were forever 😉), I think there was always some kind of spark there. He couldn't exactly protect her, because she was the slayer, but he wanted to. I think under the surface he'll always have had some kind of feelings for Buffy, but the way he felt about her changed as time passed.
 
But I think if Buffy said "okay Xander, lets date" he would have jumped at the chance, but then it would have ruined the Scoobie gang set up.
 
I think that Xander will always have something like a schoolboy crush on Buffy, but, it's sort of like...Okay, look, he's cookie dough. He's not fully baked yet. He doesn't really know what he's gonna be, but, someday, when he's all fully baked, then he'll be... No, wait a minute, that's somebody else.

Anyhow, he will always care for her, but people grow up, and part of growing up is being to differentiate between childhood crushes and adult relationships.

Yeah, a young crush can leave lasting imprints.
 
I think the line in "I'll Never Tell" is about things getting rough in their relationship--I imagine Anya gets sick of Xander always putting his scoobyhood ahead of his relationship. And that she might interpret it as him "hiding" behind Buffy rather than dealing with the grown up relationship issues as they arise. Because Xander always jumped into the physical fights pretty bravely (gettng himself endlessly knocked around in the bargain). But relationship stuff? *That* scared him. Exhibit A: Hell's Bells.
 
Everyone knows at the beginning Xander wanted to be with Buffy, he asked her to dances, waitied at the Bronze for her to show up, got jealous when it came to Angel and Owen.
With Cordelia I think that he cared for Cordy, and he was getting smoochies from her so he wasn't about to give that up.

Although do you remember in Season 7 disc 1.
Where that girls dog gets pulled under the road from that giant worm thing Anya turned her boyfriend into ?
Anyway, when the girl goes back to Buffy's house and tells the scoobies all that happened, and Buffy is taking charge like usual she asks Xander "Is your girlfriend always this bossy?"
Xander kinda gets tongue tied and Buffy says "A little drool Xander"
So I think that a small part of him will always have Buffy in the back of his mind.

She'll always be there in the back of his mind. Every girl he meets will have to compete with Buffy, and they are screwed. Xander is adult, understands he's never going to be with Buffy and is also probably quite aware that (especially in the comics) he fulfills the role of 'Father' in between Buffys 'mom' and Dawns 'daughter'. All of this is admirable, and someday he will find a woman and marry her and make her happy.

But every once in awhile late at night he'll think back and he'll think of Buff and he'll wonder 'what if.'

definitely, although i'm sad to say after season 7, i didn't get to the comics.
i wasn't sure if it was worth it or not.
that and my chapters doesn't have them, so I don't know where I can get them.
 
He always had a thing for Buffy. In the begining he loved her in the girl way, but in the future, season 5,6 and 7 she was so close to his hart and it became more than "I love you thing". He tought he have an obligation to protect her. I read that in season 7 Sarah and Nicholas had an idea about Xander and Buffy. They tought they should become couple, but Joss tought it was a bad idea. Who knows, maybye it would be intersting, but I know my heart belongs to Bangel.
