Xanya vs. Dander

I watched "Potential" a few days ago and the scene where Xander tells Dawn she's extroidinary is a moment which made me envision Dawn and Xander as a couple. They've obviously got a close bond and i could imagine that with Dawn growing up into a young Woman that bond could lead to a relationship. It isn't so far fetched to me either.

XANYA! I thought Xanya was a meant to be couple, it was just so painful to watch Xander leave Anya at the altar being a big Xanya fan like myself. And it was so heart breaking when Anya was killed in the Hellmouth and Xander called for her and she couldn't hear him

Dander on the other hand, they feel more like family, but I guess this doesn't really matter in the Whedonverse. They'll always sit wrong with me.

In my relationship, we'd been friends for years before we started dating. But anyone I saw as an older sibling I would never consider as anything else. Friends can move on, but someone who helped raise me, not so much. Xander was kinda her father figure, as was Giles, and I really am not comfortable with a Dander or a Diles relationship. Dawn and Giles is way too gross to think about.

What comes to mind is the episode where Xander sees Dawn at the Bronze in s7 and starts with his lame, "Daddy like," term, then quickly changes his tune.

Anya always bothered me, but I think the love between she and Xander was incredibly real. Right up until the end. I think, had she lived, they would have been together. Poor Anya. A thousand years as a demon just to be killed by one when she's in human form.

Xander and Anya are perfect for eachother! nothing will ever replace them. I used to HATE The idea of Dander together. And watching the show I can't see it at all. But the comics have warmed me to the idea. I don't hate them. But I'll always prefer Xanya and want them together.

Dander, I must say, is just wrong. They have the brother/sister relationship. Even when Dawn was crushing on him. It's just wrong and weird and just would never work. He's too old to begin with and Dawn grows out of her ideas about him thank god. They would never work together but Xanya always will. Even after they are not together anymore. They are the perfect coupling here. I miss them.

I don't particularly have a problem with Dawn and Xander together... admitadly the age difference is a bit 'meh' but it's not as much of an age difference as Xander and Anya lol... but it's not one of my favourite 'ships'... but that said, i'm not a massive fan of Xander and Anya...

If it came to a choice of all the girls Xander has had relationships of any sort with, i'd actually cast my vote for Xander and Faith lol

Not to mention that it's been clear in the show that Dawn and Buffy have a very deep connection. They're different people, but they're still a part of each other-literally. The monks made her out of Buffy. They share the same blood, fight the same mission. Anyone else think that dating Dawn partly fulfills Xander's Buffy fantasies?

I'd also like to add that it's really not the age difference that bothers me. I mean, Buffy's boyfriends are like what, 100, 200 years old? It's the context and the big brother relationship that is just squicky to me. But hey, let's wait until the end of Season 8 to see how it plays out...

..

Xander can fullfill his Buffy fantasies by dating Buffy herself. Buffy confessed she liked him, Xander rejected her because he's in love with Dawn and that he would have dated Buffy if she'd asked years ago -which means he's over her now.

I'll be back shortly for my theories on why I love dander as a ship. But yeah, I'm fully behind it and also, never really got Xanya!

Xander plus Dawn creeps me out. A lot.

Why though? I don't see any reason for it to creep you out.

Okay. The Dander thing. I totally get behind it.

They are sweet to each other.
They understand each other.
They respect each other.
They are never nasty to each other.

They are. This is important. Listen. They are not brother and sister. They are not, in fact, at all related. They grew up together with a few years age difference. Big deal. It's the same age difference as Riley and Buffy. And a hell of a lot better than the age gap between Buffy and the vamp duo.

Those of you who claim the 4 year age gap is a problem - what age gap do you think is okay? What isn't? Who are you to decide that?

Wow, is it only a 4 year age gap? That just goes to show you how immature Dawn was written in the show vs how mature the Scoobies were seasons 5-7.
My issue is not the age gap. It is that when I last saw them during season 7, Dawn is a child and Xander is an adult and I do not accept that a consensual and non-abusive relationship could have been formed at that time. Since I do not have any knowledge of the characters when they are both adults, my mental image of the relationship makes me creeped out.

I do accept that, in theory, a relationship could develop but the mental images that I retain of the characters do not support said relationship.

Okay, so I can understand the Dander couple but I can't say I support it, especialy not when it's being comapred to Xanya. Xanya was one of the strongest couples in the entire series and anyone who doesn't think that is a little bit crazy, no...forget I said that.

I'm voting for Xanya because I think they are one of the best coupls in the 'verse and although they're over...they'll always be alive.

I don't support that at all. What I support is them as adults together. Which they are now. Does anyone know exactly what age Dawn and Xander are in current ages? I can't be bothered doing the maths.

Xander is 24 and Dawn is 19 now.

When I was 19 I was dating and living with someone that turned 24 while we were together. I really didn't see any issue with it. We were both at a similar point of our lives and had no impact.

Is the problem more that they knew each other while Dawn was young? I don't understand why that's a problem either though. Each to their own I guess!

My last post was meant to say stop being awesome, but my phone messed it up. I'm moving to Australia and am just going to spend time with you and bask in your amazingness!

My husband is 13 years older than me. And we're so happy with each other. Yeah, sometimes the age gap does complicate things, but overall, we're happy.

I do think the problem people have with Xander and Dawn isn't so much the age gap but the fact that Xander knew Dawn when she was 10. He was even her baby-sitter occasionally. I think it's understandable why it's uncomfortable for the fans, but in the end it's not a sin and it's not wrong. They're both adults now and they connect perfectly with each other.
