Fast forward 17 years and the children of gun owners are still shooting other children:

That's just screwed up 🙁
Why do 11 year olds need access to guns to the first place if they aren't ready for the responsibility that comes with a gun ? Kids that age should still be using water guns and NERF guns, not real guns with fatal bullets in them...

The students lose respect for them

The main reason students lost respect for school staff is because most school staff members don't know how to assert control or apply discipline if needed.

I posit that its usually the kids not brought up around guns. When you are trained on them at an early age and you understand their uses and power, you learn that respect and responsibility. If you play with nerf and water guns you don't really understand the consequences of a real weapon and it lessens the perspective; turning a gun from a weapon into a toy.

And there is a huge difference between a rifle and a gun. Most people do not lock rifles, which makes training and educating even that much more important.

For the most part, whether the teachers know how to assert control or not, they, because of school policy, are not allowed to enforce discipline in their classrooms, and their parents have specifically told them that if anyone at the school "lays a hand on them, or even speaks harshly" they (the parents) are to be called immediately. With no way to enforce discipline, discipline becomes a farce.

and, note, this is from the family of one of the shooting victims, not any political group.

I can only hope that father has the same view of pro-gun politicians using the tragedy to support their agenda too, as it's only fair, if political agenda is what they're against.

But when is the last time that any gun rights advocate has held a nation wide news conference presenting his agenda with the parents and families of shooting victims sitting on the stage behind him, frequently shown in close ups? Obama is the only one who I have ever seen use those tactics. At the most, the pro gun advocates quote statistics, without even mentioning the victims' names, or allow victims or their families to present their own testimony if they volunteer to do so.

For that matter, when have you ever seen a nation wide news conference presented by a pro gun advocate, or even seen a rebuttal to one of Obama's press conferences? Could it possibly be that the press is just a little bit prejudiced in the matter of gun control?

Hey @white avenger I thought you might like this link saying how the US only ranks 9th when compared to European countries for mass shootings.

I thought this was interesting too:

There were 13 cases where at least 15 people were killed. Out of those cases, four were in the United States, two in Germany and two in the United Kingdom.

But the U.S. has a population four times greater than Germany’s and five times the U.K.’s, so on a per-capita basis the U.S. ranks low in comparison — actually, those two countries would have had a frequency of attacks 1.96 (Germany) and 2.46 (UK) times higher.​
