You know you are old when .. ..

You know you are old if you remember drug store tube testers with a selection of the most popular tubes in the pedestal under the tester. There were no settings or controls - you just plugged the tube into the appropriate socket (of about 80), waited for the tube to warm up then read the number off the meter. If it was zero, the tube was dead. If it was low, the tube emission had gone down to the point where a new tube would be beneficial. You could fix your own radio or TV if the problem was just a tube.

This does make me wonder how many people know what a tube is in this case.

What is 1/4 inches in the middle and 1.5 inches on the outside?

You know you are old if you know what it is. (Hint: vinyl records)

I used to buy a lot of Soul imports - I'd have been lost without one of those.

I think I vaguely recognise it as some kind of spacer used for different record sizes.

Still got one of those in my record case. Need it for some of the older vinyl ones.

Used for 45 single records like Donny Osmond’s “Puppy Love”😝

Don't you just love the combination of imperial and metric measurements?
1958 was famous for two things:

1.Quad headlights on cars. The 7 inch headlight could be replaced with a pair of 53/4 headlights and many American manufacturers made use of the change.

2. The hula hoop. This could probably not succeed today as a lot of the children who it was aimed at have belly girth larger than hip girth and it would just fall off.

....uhh, excuse me, three things! It was the year I was born!! 🍼

That was when the Hula Hoop came out 😜

@TriBel "used to buy a lot of Soul imports"
You really should purchase local souls. They're a lot cheaper as you don't have to pay tariffs and it's easier to inspect the quality.

But then you get a lower class of souls since they they not worth mailing long distant.

But were the imports actually imports, or were the discs made in England? Was the vinyl used superior to American vinyl?

Imports - I knew (vaguely) some of the guys who ran the Northern Soul Scene.
I was in the FORUMS looking to see what
the latest posts have been when I noticed
the message for this site, the listing was:
( For ) Anyanka Bunny Slayer .. 44
minutes ago.
I automatically thought how many minutes
ago? That and I was confused as I thought
Anyanka was younger than 44 yo.

(tee hee)

ILLYRIAN " I often stay out at night and abuse the neighbours, luckily my neighbours don't speak English, that's the good thing about Emu's. ".

How do you know they dont speak English . 😜

You know you are o;d when .. ..
you can remember Donald Trump admitting, "I did that!" Which is good as it means I am not that old yet.
