Don't you just hate it when people find out you like Buffy and/or Angel and they think you have no life? It's not like spend 24 hours a day wacthing Buffy and it's not as if thats all we like and think about!

So what is it about Buffy and Angel that makes others think we so anti-social? And how much does it tick you off?

And, have any of you ever ever defended yourself?

At this stage, I no longer bother defending it. Unlike most people, I genuinely do consider it part of my identity, so I really do deserve the nerdy tag... I'd rather devote my time to converting the infidels...
 
Well, I have no life, so it's no wonder that's what people believe... But really, BtVS has made me both less social and more social. I spent whole summer watching Buffy, really.. But I started feeling better about myself 'cause of Buffy so I became much more social than I've ever been in my life before.
I don't defend it anymore either, I tend to walk away as soon as people mention Buffy, or I ask them not to speak about it, heh. Though, today I met a some-what-Buffy-fan, she's not a fan, but I think she will be.. If I didn't frighten her away with my long rambling (but she did borrow two DVD boxes, Yay, heh).
I agree with Jill about the identity thing. That's why I can't even stand people talking about BtVS, 'cause it's like they're saying bad things about me or my personality right in front of me..

It used to disturb me a little, and I was always quick to defend. But not so much anymore, as I realized most of the people harassing me about it really didn't have much better to do. Therefore, must not have much of a social thing going on themselves. Plus, I always wondered, as I'd sit and watch them poke fun, if they secretly watched it themselves and just couldn't fess. I always got this image of them on the john with one of those miniature televisions watching S5 and crying like a wounded pup watching "The Body". Yeah....a closet Buffer! HA! I SLAY me! :spinface: Yes there is no help for me..
 
I just wind up people up too with my ramblings and if anyone insultsa me i just laugh it off like im not bothered cos really im not, i see it as ignorance- most of the people haven't even seen buffy but if they did they would love it too, well thats what i think anyway!! lol!!!
 
I hate this...everyone who finds out that I like Buffy and Angel just automatically assumes that that's all I do. I mean yea, I talk about it every now and then, but look at everyone else with their other shows like, just for example, the OC and Everwood and stuff. I don't understand why people just think that anyone who likes Buffy and Angel just completely spends their entire day watching it....I really dont get why people just think that all of a sudden, it's always confused me...

And yea, I always defend myself whenever someone makes a comment about me wasting my life on the shows...it makes me really mad, actually, because it's my life, not theirs. And also, Buffys a great show. They should really have watched it lol 😛
 
I used to keep it a secret that I watched Buffy and Angel.. cause I thought people would think I was sad or something.. but now I don't really care.. what people think of the show.. turns out when I told people I watched it.. they've watched it themselves.. just don't think there as obessed as me..
 
I think that people believe I'm less a nerd than I really am. 'Cause it's like, "ok epo, you like Buffy and I like The OC, what's the difference?". And the difference is that I buy the DVDs for lots and lots of money, and I spend hours discussing the show online, and I read books and magazines about it.. I buy/watch bad movies just 'cause the actors from BtVS happen to be in them, and so on. People believe it's just a TV show to me, that I watch it once a week or something.. on TV. Heh. And I'm way more obsessed than that.. (Actually some people have started understanding what a weirdly obsessed fan I am but.. most people have no idea..)
 
I never really hide the fact that I like to watch Buffy. I mean I not obsessed, but I like to watch it. I've had pretty good responses from people when I told them I was a Buffy & Angel fan. Most of the time they watched the shows too and I ended up in an indepth conversation about the shows. Things like which epi's we like and so forth!!!!
 
Ah, the burden of fandom. I've watched more horrible films purely for a cameo by Alyson Hannigan or James Marsters than I care to remember. I know True Lies off by heart, and you probably know as well as I do that it is not a film that improves with age.

I do actually keep it to myself most of the time, but at the same time, I usually make sure people know that I identify myself as a Buffy fan. My unashamed nerdhood is sort of a running joke for me, and given that I work in a game shop, nerdhood comes with the turf. Favourite prank yet was filling four shelves with boxes for Chaos Bleeds.

But, and brace yourself for how scary this is going to sound, I consider Buffy the closest thing I have to a religion. So I might not bring it up in every conversation (and I like to think I'm normal enough not to witter on pointlessly to unfortunate people who get trapped listening to me) it's still an ever present part of my life. I can function as a healthy part of society, and I do indeed have a life, but scratch the surface and I'm a terrifying obsessive weirdo. You don't have to scratch too deep, either. 😀

That's exactly how I feel...if I like to watch something, I'll watch it. People really should start accepting the fact that people like different things.
I'll carry my Buffy books around school and stuff, and sometimes people will give me weird looks but I just give them a weird look back 🙂

Oh, I haven't found that movie anywhere yet, still looking, heh. Have bought movies like The New Guy, Wrong Turn and (most horrible) Beyond The City Limits. (And considering the money I got this Christmas, I'm guessing there'll be a lot more bad movies in my collection in a month.)

OMG, hehe. I do that too. Two weeks ago we had religion in school, and we were supposed to do this project thing.. about a religion or something that has to do with religion. I was quite nervous when I was going to tell my teacher what I was going to write about. But she seemed like she thought it sounded quite interesting.. And I ended up writing eleven pages about BtVS and religion. Eh..
 
Good lord. Because I've been away from the internet so much, and needed a ranting fix, I started writing about BTVS as a religious system at the start of October. I had intended to simply post it here, but the damn thing won't end. About six thousands words into it, and showing no signs of stopping... Eponinethen, you're not.. me... or anything are you?

True Lies, aside from some hysterically racist stereotypes, isn't actually that awful a film. It's aged badly though, and the scene on the harrier jet is so dumb it could give people brain damage. Race The Sun and Beverley Hills Family Robinson retain the joint honour of the worst film I've ever made myself watch because of who was in it. I'm also looking forward to a whole year's worth of horrible, horrible film purchases. Soul Survivors, here I come!

Heh, I had like four days to write that thing and two other essays (do I need to tell you I never wrote the other two?). I couldn't stop either but I had too, so it became like ten really short texts (which could have been at least three pages each if I had had the time). Because I wanted to write about Everything. Answering questions like "does god exist", "what happens when you die", "what's the meaning of life".. with the help of BtVS, writing about the character's religions, in what way BTVS is a religion to me, what that religion could mean/stand for if it was a "real" religion.. comparing things in buffyverse to things in existing religions.. Eh, and so on..

Hm, realizing I had no idea what True Lies was about... I accidently (had no choice, really) watched Beverly Hills Family Robinson once before I became a Buffy fan, and I'm thinking it's not worth re-watching even though I have a "new" obsession with Buffy. Not to mention Eurotrip, which was just horrible (don't even know why I watched it, it's not like I'm a huge fan of Michelle Trachtenberg). Heh, I've been looking for Soul Survivors for a long time.. not wanting to spend too much money on that one though.. (I think I'd rather spent my movie-money on Tarantino, Lynch and Burton movies.. but that just never happens...)
 
Who gives a damn?

People usually think of Buffy as a braindead actionflick klisjee-show, with bad acting and bad storylines..
When people diss me because I'm such a fan, I don't care. Buffy is the best show ever made, with excellent acting, wonderful characters and so on. I relate to many of the characters, and by watching the show, Buffy's monolouges and stuff, I learn more about myself.

Who cares what other people thinkg. They're not living your life, are they? : party:
 
I don't like when people who like BtVS are self deprecating about it. If you call yourself a nerd for owning the DVDs then you're calling everyone else who owns them a nerd too and that's really mean.

I consider Nerds a subculture every bit as distinctive and important as Goths or Skaters. I don't consider everybody who owns the DVDs a nerd, but if you can list the character, episode and context that goes with the quote above, well...

I don't consider myself a nerd based purely on my love of Buffy- I consider myself a nerd based on my profound and enduring love of sci-fi, horror, computer games, electronics, Aeon Flux, comics, McFarlane figures, religious mythology and obscure books. Before Buffy, I had the X Files, and before that I had the X Men, and I was one of the two hundred people in the world who knew what a paleontologist was before Friends. (when I was seven, I wanted to be one, and consequently found myself enormously annoyed everytime Ross worked with early humans rather than dinosaurs, since it's still the accepted wisdom that there was a few million years between dinosaurs and upright primates, so he shouldn't have anything to do with humans)

So no offense to other BTVS fans is intended. I'm an extreme case, since, aside from my physical appearance, I'm a living stereotype. 😀
 
I kinda recentley came out as being a buffy fan--- always been atracted to the scifi and fantasy even comics (does archie count?)--- well back to buffy , I'm not ashamed I don't think people think I'm weird errr anything in fact since I've come out I've gained a new outlook and dont feel so alone ---sure I've got some dirty looks but I do get a little obsessive oh well its my nature I'm pretty much obsessed w/ everything
