"You like Buffy? So do you have a life?"

Well my mates take the piss out of me for liking Buffy and Angel, but I don't care! It's cos I have all the box sets for both programmes. But what can i say I'm a closet geek. I still go out with my mates i have a good career and a house i just enjoy watching the program.

BTVS and Angel Fan

Having the complete DVD sets of both shows kinda makes it obvious and a couple of people think I'm weird and must be a goth but I'm over it now. Watching it is fun but I still do what they consider to be 'normal' stuff too. I don't think there's anything wrong with people forming opinions of me as long as they keep it to themselves

It's funny this girl I just started seeing thought I was joking when I told her how much of a Buffy and Angel fan I was. Then she came into my room and was shocked. She laughed at me forever. It was pretty funny. I don't really care though.

being an older fan I have people make fun of me all the time about it.
But I don't care. I have always loved vampires.
People also make fun of me because of my Angelus obsession. But again I say who cares? I have a thing for the shows and nothing anyone can say to me will change that. :cheerlead

I don't care either. My other friends all have Friends or Ally McBeal videos/dvd's they don't get the mickey taken out of them so why should we. I've always had a liking for vampires too. Def not a goth though.
People tend to talk a lot of junk about Buffy and Angel.I once checked this Buffy book out from the school library and the librarian was like,"Buffy?I can't believe people watch this junk."i didn't say anything to her. When I returned the book back a few weeks later, she sarcastically asked me if I enjoyed the book.I got annoyed and said,"Yeah,I did!!"My mom used to talk junk about Buffy and Angel too until she sat down to watch an episode with me on TNT.It was Waiting in the Wings. She loved it.She watched it with me everyday. Her fave characters are Angel,Cordy, and Spike. She only likes watching AtS.She doesn't like BtVS because she says Buffy acts like she's all that.My sister likes some BtVS.She only likes the high school seasons though. And I have some freinds that come over and even though they don't watch Angel on their own time they always insist on watching my dvds. They never ask to watch BtVS since they are guys and they might think it's a girly show.I think I went on for too long. What was this topic about again?

a lot of my friends are like that
"omg, you actually watch that show?"
i have a few friends who watch the show, but they are no where near as obssessed with it as i am.
buffy was a big part of my life since i was 11 or 12 years old, that's almost 10 years (wow, do i feel old!)...how can you just forget about something like that?

It has never been a problem for me, when I was younger I knew allot of people who watched it then it got less and less, My best friend loves the shows as well, and I once checked out a Buffy book from the school library, it was the day of the Buffy season 6 premiere, anyway I checked it out and the librarian looks at me and goes, Oh did u know the new series starts tonight in America(We were in Ireland), I said yeah and she started asking me how did I think Buffy was coming back, then we had a chat about Buffy 🙂 It was so surprising.
When ever I tell people I watch Buffy I get an Ok response its like Me too, or I don't like that show, and the night of the season 7 finale I made loads of people watch it (in their own homes!) and come in and discuss it the next day. One of them actually rang me afterwards to ask me a question. Then another time I was talking about the Angel Finale, and some one asked me to explain both shows, so I did during lunch, I crammed all the mythology and episode summaries into 40 mins! Best lunch ever 🙂 (And this was to a bunch of 17year old males)

You got the nice librarian and I got the crappy one lol
I think 'having a life' is having a range of responsibilties and interests so if you display that, then having a life is not really in question. But, being into Buffy does somehow tend to put you outside the mainstream. There's a real Buffyist vibe you get off people who have never watched the show when you bring it up.

At the height of my obsession, around 18 months ago, I really couldn't help quoting from Buffy or telling the guys I work with all about it. Which was a problem because I'm a mechanic in a factory with whole bunch of blokey blokes as my main audience and that, and possibly the fact that I sometimes like to sing songs from The Sound of Music, I'm sure had them questioning my sexuallity if not the fact that I had no life. So I've eased off on the Buffy and I've always got an opinion on cricket, aussie rules football, movies and they know I play golf every weekend so I think I'm okay with them.

Still, I cop a ribbing when one of them will catch a look at the Buffy wallpaper on my mobile phone or inadvertently comment on Buffy. And I know now, that no matter what I say to them about how good it is or how hot the chicks are in it or whatever, none of them will ever give it chance. That knowledge is disappointing, but I have to keep reminding myself that its their loss and, even if they do think I have no life because I'm into Buffy/Angel, the most important thing is that I know my life is actually richer for it.

I guess it is the same with any one, I have not really watched too much angel, but everyone is all, give it a chance...so that is what I am doing. I don't really understand why people bad mouth a show when they dont even watch it. They just think..ohh vampires...demons, that is so dumb, lol. Atleast I dont think Angel is dumb. Yeesh. Oh yes, I have a life, but it so happens to revolve around Buffy, hahahaha.

By some people's standards, I have a life. I hold down a decent job, a boyfriend, and friends. I go out all the time.

Yes, yes, but when I have five minutes to myself, I become the biggest nerd you've ever met. My new goal in life is to have a friend that actually gives enough of a damn to watch Buffy as obsessively as I do, and have a conversation with me about it. I'm making progress.

Like Jill said, I actually consider it as part of my identity. It's a part of me. And I'm secure enough in my nerdom to admit that. I'm an obsessive freak, and I'm cool with that. I embrace it.
