Let's see. My first snippet of the show was the first airing of "The Yoko Factor", when I was 8 or 9. I saw Buffy pointing the crossbow at the Colonel's head. Then my grandma switched the channel. 🙁 Then, I saw the ending of "The Gift", and I was crying my guts out as if I actually knew her. After the close up shot of her grave, the words: "Thank you for five years of Buffy The Vampire Slayer" popped up, so I thought it was the end. So once I saw the "Buffy lives" commercials on the UPN, I knew I had to tune in! And the rest is beautiful, Joss-y history. 🙂
 
Watched the first episode when it broadcasted here in Italy! I think I was 8 lol and already hooked! I bought the dvds when I was 14/15 and saw for the first time in my life season 6 and 7, I didn't manage to watch then on tv because they were really late at night and I always fell asleep 🙂 I also had troubles with season 3 and 4 because I was staying in Wales visiting my parents for the entire summer when they were broadcasted...so my Buffy-start was half TV, half DVD 🙂
 
I started with the DVD's. The sweet wonderfulness of Buffyverse came into my life when I really needed it. This time about 2 years ago, I was going through a tough time in my life. I knew Joss Wheadon was a genius. I watched Firefly in the past. So I thought hey, I will watch Buffy. How bad could it be? Lol was I pleasantly surprised. Each episode was so filled with a great distraction from my problems. It is kind of a go to when I am sad. After I watched a few seasons, I was goggling buffy trivia and found the buffy-boards. I was so happy to join and still am. 😀 I love Buffy and pretty much anything Joss. 😀 I wear that flag proudly.
 
My sister used to watch it, and I never really cared for it. I was never a fan of vampire shows. Then I caught a glimpse of Nicholas Brendon and I was all, "Wow, who's the hottie?" It was Becoming Part 2. I remember it was the scene where Xander lied to Buffy. My sister was enraged, but I was intrigued. I love flawed characters. It still didn't capture my full interest though. Later, I'd catch scenes here and there, mostly the Xander ones. The first episode I watched from start to end was the Zeppo. And I fell in love with Xander. My sister was already hooked on Spander ( Xander/Spike) fanfiction and I asked her to print me an angsty Xander fanfic. She gave me all the Spander fanfic she had printed.

I devoured them! The funny thing was, I didn't know what Spike looked like and I was too lazy looking it up on the net. I was mostly interested in Xander. But I had very high expectations about Spike's looks, almost every fic described him as a sex god. When my sister showed him to me, I was really disappointed, I thought he looked average and that Xander was better looking.

I kept reading Spander fics until S4 started airing in my country. It was the first official season I watched. The Freshman didn't have Xander, and my sister told me, according to fics, Xander wouldn't show up until episodes later when Willow and Tara fell in love. I was really upset!!! But suddenly he appeared in the Bronze, I fell off my chair squealing and my sister jumped up and down with happiness, honestly I think we were happier than Buffy when he showed up. 😀

Watching the show regularly, I fell in love with all the characters instead of just Xander and to a smaller extent Spike. Sigh. Good times.

So, I guess I fell in love with Buffy through Spander fanfic first and then the show.
