I absolutely adore Neil Gaiman. I love his book Stardust. It made me feel like a little girl again. There are just too many great authors, but among my favorites are:
Raymond Chandler, James Lee Burke, Ursula K. Leguin, J. K. Rowling, Phillip Pullman, Mark Twain, Sylvia Plath, and James Elroy. I love science fiction, but I also love a lot of classic British literature. One of my favorite books ever is Brave New World. Oh, and let's not forget Shakespeare. I love Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing. But I can't stand Romeo and Juliet...

Like faiths5x% I love Laurell K. Hamilton, her Anita Blake series is excellent. I've just bought 2 of her other books that I haven't had a chance to start reading yet, but they seem really good!

I also like Christine Feehan and Keri Arthur. They write the best supernatural/romance books ever. Its a shame because you can't get Keri Arthur books in England and I have to order them over the Internet.

I really like Kelly Armstrong as well. She writes her books in the first person, which I don't usually like but her books are surprisingly good.

WOW that is so cool! i'm a big fan! i think that prozac nation is such a bold and well written book!!

i like Alice Hoffmann, andrea ashworth(once in a house on fire: WOW so good!), charles dickens, susanna kaysen, micheal moore, à…sne seierstad(norwegian jurnalist, a war reporter!), leo tolstoy(so far 😉), jostein gaarder(norweigan, a filosofer), dorothy parker(her short stories).

Hey, I just read today that Bryan Singer (X-men, X2) is remaking Logan's Run...except he's doing it like it was originally written by George C. Johnson and William F. Nolan!!! It's gonna be good!

(Quick Buffy aside...in Life Serial Warren and Johnathan use the call names Logan 3 and Francis 6...these are from Logan's Run...just some FYI...)

OMG i forgot one of them!!! its Chris Riddle and Paul Stewart! okay so its not one lol 😀 but they wrote the edge chronicles (i know kidds book but i love it lol 😀)

Good spot KD - I wouldn't have got that in a million years. It's been such a long time since I saw Logan's Run.
 
Hmm... I haft to say JK Rowling for the wonderful Harry Potter books, Francine Parscal for the 'Fearless' serie and Joan Lowery Nixon *or Dixon* for a book called 'Dont scream'

I actually know Kelly Armstrong! I didn't realize she was as successful as she is...I knew her before the books. Her husband worked right beside me for a number of years, and I proofread her psych papers when she was doing her Master's degree! Who'da thought...

Mr. P: I happen to have the book "Logan's Run"! Vintage 1976, with pics of the original movie and all...as usual the book is much better than the movie, and I hope Singer does as good a job on the remake as he did with the X-Men. I don't want to spoil the movie if he keeps to the original source material, but if he does, the ending will be out of this world...heheheheh!
 
Oscar Wilde or Slyvia Plath. I can never decide between the two. Wilde can be thought provoking, hilarious, and depressing. He's great. But Slyvia is just absolutely amazing. Her words and images are mind-blowing.
 
I'm glad the BBers are so well read...that makes me happy! A few years back (ok, a lot of years back) I was picking my major in University. I had many options, and I took some time to go and talk to a friend who had his doctorate in psychology. I was interested in learning about the human condition and behaviour, and I figured he'd encourage me to go for psych. After a couple of barley pops, he said that if I really wanted to learn about "the human condition" and "human behaviour" that psych wasn't the way to go...English studies was. I was stunned. He knew I was an avid reader, and he explained that you could learn all you ever wanted to about psychology from the great and not-so-great works of literature. For example, Ahab from Moby-dick is a primer on obsession at the cost of one's life; Lady Macbeth is a study in unbridled ambition at her husband's expense. He had others, but the point was made...if you wnat to find out about people, read all about it!
 
I just picked up my first Vonnegut book today...Slaughter-house Five...looking forward to reading it!

Hey Mr. P, and anyone else interested...the next George RR Martin book in the "Song of Ice and Fire" series is being released some time early this month (April)...keep an eye, if you're so inclined!
