Your Opinion on Homosexuality.

This may be a bit of a taboo thread but I'd like to see what people think about homosexuality.

My little brother is gay and he's one of the most amazing people I've ever met and I just hate that equal rights aren't given to gays.

This is NOT a debate thread!!! It is simply me asking what your guys opinions are. 🙂

I don't really personally know anyone that's gay. My mother is friends with someone who is. My parents raised me to be tolerant and open minded. So I'm for all Gay/Lesbian rights. I'm not homophobic.

I know a couple of people who are gay and they are all amazing. I am very tolerant, so no problems with homosexuality 🙂

Of course I think everyone should have equal rights, regardless your sexuality. It's horrible it isn't that way.

And yeah, I know a lot of people that are gay and bi (and I'm bi myself), some are amazing and my friends, some I don't like. Just like I know a lot of straight people, some are amazing and my friends, some I don't like. It's not like it should make a difference if the people you've met that are gay are good people or not, everyone deserve to be treated equal anyway.

I'm a huge, huge, HUGE supporter of gay rights. One of my best friends is gay and another is Bi, and they are two of the most wonderful people you could ever hope to me.

Gay rights is a cause very close to my heart, and I support many LBGT charities and causes, including Day of Silence, one of the best causes out there.

The fact that there are still people out there who are against gay rights, or people who think honosexuality can be 'cured' make me sick to my stomach.

I don't think anyone has the right to judge a person based on their sexuality. At the end of the day we are all human and we all deserve the same rights and respect.

I believe that everyone deserves to be treated equally, regardless of their race, religion, gender, age, sexuality, etc.

I believe that the gender you choose to sleep with is no-one else's damn business. I also believe you shouldn't have to hide it for fear of what people will think. I believe that judging someone on the basis of this is wrong.

I believe that the typical justification given for homosexuality being "wrong" (usually religious reasons) is often flawed- take the Bible, for example. Homosexuality is listed as being wrong, yes. But then, so are a multitude of other things that are treated with nowhere near the same bile as homosexuality. If you're going to disapprove, at least disapprove consistently, people!

(NB: No disrespect intended to anyone religious, this is purely my own opinion 🙂 )

I also believe sexuality to be more fluid than most people describe it, though I don't know if that is the kind of opinion you're looking for.

Oh, and nothing makes me roll my eyes more than girls being "Bi for the guys" (Girls who will make out with each other purely for the purpose of attracting attention, often male). I've not noticed any men doing the same thing, but the same would be true in that situation. Most attention-seeking peeves me, though, it's not limited to these 😛

I have nothing against gay people.

To be honest, I love them. When they're accepted, they're so honest and open. I have only one gay friend. I know him since he was a kid, and I have to say, he was always kinda girly. He declared to me he's gay in the second grade of High School. He was scared, but I told him I'll be there for him and that he has to tell other people, he can't live in a lie. His true friends will accept him. He did lost couple of people, but now he's fine 🙂

I'm bi myself, but that's not the reason I support gay rights - I did that a long time before I discovered that part of myself. I support human rights as a whole, because I think it is just wrong to deny people rights because of race, gender, sexuality, ability... the list goes on and on, but I have a lot of gay friends and it makes me sick whenever they get treated badly. I actually got into a fight once (the only time in my life) when one of them got threatened by a bunch of louts on a night out, and I told them they'd have to get past me first (and they were all like "challenge accepted". I honestly thought they wouldn't hit a girl, turned out I was wrong). Worst thing was that one of the lads was my then-best friend's boyfriend and she didn't dump him when I told her that her boyfriend was a bigot f***er.

I'm gay and it's really super awesome. I wouldn't change who I am for the world. I know a lot of other gay people and for the most party, they're really cool too. As always in any group of people linked by a genetic trait, you will have cool people and not so cool people. But my opinion is that we're all people. Every last one of us.

The term phobia implies fear. If you dont support gay rights because, for example, its against your religion, it doesnt mean youre afraid of them. Hence my dislike of the term.

I don't care if someone's gay or not because I don't judge people by their sexuality. I've never actually met a someone who's gay, but I do know a few people that are Bisexual. And honestly, I think more people should respect them.

I'm Anthony, and I'm a former homophobe.

My reasons were:

It's gross!
It's different!
It's gross!!

Then one day when I was 23, I was in my Human Sexuality Class in college and the professor brought the first set of "different people" into the class. They were 3 gay men. Well, I told them they were gross. From there started this absolutely amazing two hour dialogue that changed my life (seriously). I became "homo-tolerant."

Then I watched MTV's The Real World and got to know my first homosexual. His name was Pedro Zemora, and he was dying with AIDS. He was amazing!! What a human being! The day after the final episode aired he died of AIDS. I cried.

Around the same time, a song came out that also changed my life. It's called "Island of Shame" by Lagwagon and it is about a person dying of AIDS. After I heard it, I knew I had to do something. I immediately contacted the LA County Bar Association and volunteered to help people dying of AIDS write wills before their death. The one thing they told me is "Please, please try to give them a handshake. People are so afraid of AIDS. They crave the smile and handshake of a friend." The first time I did it was one of my proudest moments of being a lawyer. I could feel the power of this one small act.

I'm now known as a attorney who doesn't judge, and who is gay friendly. And my son (I wrote about this elsewhere) at age 9 has so much understanding for gay people. Willow and Tara didn't even phase him. 🙂

BTW, I "thought" I never had any gay friends. Thanks to Facebook, I found out that three friends from high school were and still are gay. lol!

i know quite a few gay people, and transvestites, transsexuals and various other social minorities, as part of my job i work regularly with them and consider them all close friends...

I really don't see a problem with it, it's just who they are, be it gay, straight or any other inclination... they're living their life and are happy with it 🙂

Quick addition here in regards to the 'human rights' segment of the first post... i've actually found that homosexual people actually have more rights than a lot of my friends... now hear me out before arguing here... a lot of my friends are into BDSM and alternative sexual practices... and it todays society, even in england, if its found out that you're into BDSM or anything 'alternative' like that, you can actually loose your job over it...

I'm not kidding... I've known people that have lost their jobs because their sexual predications became public knowledge, they've had their children taken away and some even threatened with jail time just because they enjoy what most people consider 'alternative' sexual practices.

While being homosexual is now openly talked about in the general world, it only pushed other alternative sexual lives further under the curtain and made people more afraid and intolerant of them.
