Your Opinion on Homosexuality.

Fully in support of LGBTQIA rights. I will never understand the opposition, especially when we're talking about equal civil rights. Separation of church and state, please.

Fellow Americans: DADT repeal coming up soon and the Senate's got the votes for it, reportedly. Fingers crossed! 😀

YAY for DADT REPEAL!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I'm bi, and I totally support anyone who is or is gay or straight. I don't care.

My roommate is transgendered and she's probably the prettiest friend I have. She's a sweetheart. But it is harder for her than for me. If I tell someone about me, it's more accepted than telling about her situation. She's been beaten within inches of her life more than once for who she is.

That's horrible... :(
Don't like gay marriage? Then don't get one. I'm a dyke, it's who I am, along with more than half of the population, (including animals) if no one likes it then that sucks to be them because I am a good friend. Their loss, not mine. Being homophobic along with racism are just other ways of taking focus off more important issues like WAR, global hunger, and not a cure in sight for any of the terminal illnesses in this world. We're all human, we all bleed, and have emotions so deal with it because it's not something that's going away.

I'm confused by your post? 😕

As for the topic at hand, I'm obviously for equal rights for everyone. For me the two most important things are open-mindedness and justice. I abhor injustice.

Oh no! Two adults in a consenting relationship!! They love each other!! And they both happen to be men! The horror! The horror!

Supporting gay right is supporting human rights. There's nothing wrong with love, and society is much better served going after people who are actually trying to hurt people: adults sleeping with children, men who beat their wives, people who murder their neighbors, etc. etc. etc.

In the past, I might have sugarcoated this, but I don't necessarily always think being passive is the way to be anymore. Simply put, if you are against gay rights, you are a bad person. You can hide behind religion all you want to (after all, so did the slaveowners and surely we shouldn't hold ourselves to a higher standard than them!), but until you can give me a reasonable, rational reason why gay people should be treated any differently than anyone else. You can throw out terms like "traditional marriage" all you want to as well (because surely marriage hasn't changed at all in the past few hundred years!).

If you're gay, straight, bi, whatever - I could not care less. To answer the topic of the post - I think that homosexuality and sexuality in general is pretty much hard programed into people. Same way it happens with animals (where they've also seen homosexual behaviors before).

That said - on gay rights, from an American perspective: 1) I have no problem with them repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" as conservative icon Barry Goldwater once said, "You don't have to be straight to be in the military; you just have to be able to shoot straight." 2) Same-sex marriage under the law doesn't concern me, so long as you allow church groups to continue to act as they wish unhindered. In essence, if a Roman Catholic Church doesn't want to perform a same-sex marriage, they should not be forced to. I think that compromise would make all those involved the happiest.

Well, I'm totally cool with homosexuality. I've been brought up in a Christian home where I've learned that apparently Christians don't believe that homosexuality is right. I think that's a load of crap and I hate watching shows including gay people when I'm with my mother. She wouldn't have any problems or not be friends with someone who was gay but she believes that it's wrong. I hate that. I have met some lovely people online who are gay and I love them.

So, as stated. I'm cool with homosexuals. Love 'em, hate it when people don't have that same view. Equal rights!

I'm a Christian *points to previous answer* Note that I probably have similar views on gay rights to most of the people here. The God who would give his only begotten Son to save humanity asks us to love all people, regardless of their perceived sin. Even if homosexuality is a sin, (which I can't begin to know), Christians are still supposed to love them as themselves. Period.

This is a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Church-Homosexual-John-J-McNeill/dp/0807079316"]book I want to read on the topic[/ame] of homosexuality in the Bible written by a Jesuit Priest with a Doctorate in Philosophy, John J. McNeill.

I'm kinda with you there - I've known for a while (well, you can't really *not* know, can you) but I only recently started telling people, and I haven't told my family at all. The reactions I got from my friends were pretty cool over all, even though most people reacted a bit confused, along the lines of "but you were with a guy for so long, I never suspected!". Seems that as a girl, in a lot of cases you're not really accepted as bi or gay unless you bring home a girlfriend. I've kissed a lot of girls I didn't love, and I loved two girls and never kissed them, but apparently that's not enough for some people. Has anyone else ever thought that?

I agree with your idea about churches not been forced to perform gay marriages. I have no problem with that.

I found this little gem: "Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others; for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, are doing the very same things." Romans 2:1

I'm a religious person, and I'm pro GLBT rights, including same-sex marriage or civil union (I kinda feel that we all should have civil unions under the law, marriage is a religious issue). Separation of church & state and all that. It's in direct opposition to my church's teachings (I'm Catholic), but I don't care. DADT is the most assinine policy I've ever heard of: if someone is willing to die for their country in battle, who the f^ck cares who they sleep with. <insert big eye-roll here>

Oh yeah, I have a couple of gay cousins & some gay friends, but I've felt this way regardless. I myself am straight as an arrow LOL! 😀

Agreed! Glad DADT is on its way out. :D Probably/hopefully, anyway!
My understanding is that all Christian clergy, and any others who have the power to perform marriages, have a long-established right to decline to perform any marriage for whatever reason. There seems to be no danger that anybody will be forced to officiate at a marriage that s/he doesn't approve of.

I really don't get the issue with not giving homosexuals the same rights as straight people.
In general, I don't get how people can be so stuck up on differences, be it in sexuality, gender or race. The thought to differentiate between people like that would never even occur to me. And especially if you know and love the people, it shouldn't matter whether they are straight or gay...if that's your criterion you're not really a good friend.

I blame the church for the prevailance of medieval standards of equality rights.
This is one of the reasons why I don't like Christianity. It's kinda hypocritical, preaching to love thy neighbour and whatnot, and then be so intolerant towards everyone who's different.

I'm cool with homosexuality. I'm all for equal rights for everybody regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation etc...

I don't know many gay or bi people (that aren't online friends. 😀 There's this one girl at my school, though, who's a lesbian and really awesome.) but I wish I knew more. Sometimes I wish I was gay or bi...You know, out of curiosity...but I'm not ( 🙁? )...I'm only attracted to guys...😀

No. No I have not. Should I listen to it? 🙂

People who are hateful baffle me. Hatred takes huge amounts of energy and effort, and fills the person with constant negativity. Why would someone want to hate? Some stories I've read or heard on the news have honestly made me cry because of how disturbed I am by people doing or saying things out of hatred. And you know what they say about people who are quick to judge, to hate, to point a finger; that finger is really pointed at themselves. People who hate do not accept themselves.

With that said, I accept/love everyone; not because I try to, but because I naturally do. When you think about it, accepting and loving people are such easy things to do. The more acceptance and love, the better this world will be.

I personally don't care either way if a person is straight or gay. I don't see why they aren't more accepted but it is just one of those things I guess people view differently.
I have never really cared I have a lot of gay friends and I love them just the same.

*This post is rated mature for awkwardness and adult topics*

I was raised predominantly by my mother after my biological father shot himself. From age five to twelve she was a single mother and she raised me to respect all people based on who they are; not what they are. My father (stepdad) came into the picture when I was twelve and he's from Alabama and semi-religious. Much to my surprise though he had the same view as my mother that you should judge people on their actions and not their labels.

So going into my teens I didn't care whether people lived their life differently from mine; what's the fun in only hanging around a bunch of yous all day. At thirteen I went to my first "real" party; beer on tap and weed being smoked in the garage. Saw my crush there momentarily, which kind of brought me down. Had my first and eventually my sixth beer; convinced my buddy to sneak some whiskey out of his dad's liquor cabinet, and went to the garage to share a joint with one of my D&D buddies.

I woke up the next morning and found myself in the bathroom; one of my sisters pseudo friends was taking advantage of my inebriated state. Definitely one of the top three worst experiences of my life so far.

I don't know if that would have made me a homophobe had the rumor not been started; for the next year or so gossip hounds twisted the tale; saying that it was mutual. Suddenly people I'd known since grade school were calling me names to my face and one or two people even tried to start a fight. After one of my former football player friends walked away black and blue the story died down and I managed to put most of it behind me.

That school year made me think about what had happened as opposed to just being depressed or angry. I have a few gay friends; some know about what happened, others don't. I prefer not to talk about it because I don't want sympathy or to make it seem like I'm relating to their experiences. I guess the reason I'm talking about it now is because how I came to terms with my anger was by realizing that he didn't do that because he was gay. Sadism is why that happened to me; so I heard some words of wisdom...and (mostly) let it be.

So I see no reason why anyone should feel the right to lash out for lack of understanding another individuals life.

We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all [humankind] are created equal...

Not equal as the same; but equal in our own personal right to be who we truly are.

Regards,
Litheran

P.S. Doesn't mean I wouldn't give James an extra long hug though; I'm straight, not blind. 😱
