How many passwords do you have,
and how do you keep them to be secretive.
 
I have about 3/4 variations of mostly the same password so I tend to use the best one for most sites, as far as being secretive it's a variation of football players, capitals, numbers etc, so it's a pretty hard one to guess...., just as it is to remember since I forgot it several times when I first started using them 🙁 haha
 
I've about 13 different passwords. Four or five I've had to write down as they are like bjF2jAbyjJduSXEp, the others memorized. Figure my memorizing them is about as secretive as they can get.

I have no idea how many passwords I got. More than I can count. lol
Did my own iOS app that stores them encrypted with a master password that I have memorized.

I have a few, and so should you.

I only forget passwords for accounts that I haven't used in a in long time.
 
I recently changed a lot of my passwords, now I can't log in to a lot of things as I can't remember what I changed them too!
 
Who told you to keep separate passwords for stuff like bank accounts, was that designed to protect you, from what?
 
Different long alphanumeric passwords for every website, managed by a Password Manager.

I don't trust password managers
I have two that I remember well but I'm not too smart when choosing passwords as I've been hacked a few times
 
At one time, back before security became such an issue, I had a single password that I used for everything, but now I have literally dozens of different ones for the various sites that I visit, and I keep them all in a notebook. If I ever lose that notebook, I won't ever be able to function on the internet again.

When I was working, (in IT) I had 50+ that I had to change every 30 days. I had them all listed in an encrypted file on a machine with no external connections as I had no hope of remembering them otherwise (They had to be all different, minimum of 8 characters, contain upper & lower case, numerals, & contain no recognisable words!!!).
Now I have around 10 so I use obscure words (in a foreign language 😉 ) with 1 replacing the letter I, and 5 replacing S, in certain places. Does for me 🙂
 
I just counted; I have 222 unique passwords with an average strength of 93%. 🙂

Those people that have one or two passwords for everything, I really implore you to up your password security. Once a site is hacked and they have your password, theoretically every other site you use that password on is compromised. Having 1facebook for Facebook and 1twitter for Twitter doesn't count! 😛

At least consider two step authentication if the site you're on offers it. Buffy Boards does, and everyone should be using it.

How does site hacking work? Obviously my bank passwords are very secure, but for social media and forums I am more lax. I should probably up grade those but lately, if I cant remember a password i just dont use the site.

How safe is google locksafe thingo? Or having sites remembering passwords/automatic log in? Most of this tech stuff goes over my head now. And im still more tech savvy than most I know in rl!

Infinitely more secure than having one or two passwords for everything though! 😉

Apparently '123456' is still the most common password in the world, followed by 'password' and '12345678' 🙄

Dunno, I'm not a hacker, but I do know that massive sites can get hacked with usernames, email addresses, passwords and other personal data stolen and available for literally anyone to take. It's not just plain text passwords stored in databases that are an issue (although they really are an issue - still!) Even encrypted data can be decrypted.

Some sites that have been hacked in recent years include:
MySpace (359 million accounts in 2008)
LinkedIn (164 million accounts in 2016)
Adobe (152 million accounts in 2013)
Tumblr (65 million accounts in 2013)

They're some of the biggest data breaches but others like Yahoo in 2012 & imgur in 2013 have been hacked to a lesser degree (but still about 1.5 million accounts between them). Data breaches are normally not made public until several years after they occur. So MySpace for example, which is the biggest breach recorded, happened in 2008 but didn't come to public knowledge until 2016 when the data was offered for sale on the dark web.

And that's why password security is so important. You might think your password is secure because it's the name of your dog + your favourite colour - it's not. It's especially not if you use that password for everything.
 
It might come as a bit of a shock but I only have one password, and that is safe, very safe, I wish I could remember what it is and where I put it.
 
I truly, truly HATE trying to remember passwords. When I reset my phone, I forgot my Google password....same with gmail. Soooo frustrating.
