Top Ten Sad/Depressing Episodes of Sitcoms

1. The Time Travelers - HIMYM (there is nothing quite as depressing as loneliness and what Ted is going through in this one is painful to watch)
2. My Screw Up - Scrubs (that moment when both Dr. Cox and the audience realizes the reality and then The Fray kicks in, me sobbing in the corner)
3. Papa's Got a Brand New Excuse - Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (even just watching that last scene gets me going every. damn. time.)
4. Last Words - HIMYM (while the final scene of the previous episode is powerful, this one takes the cake for being an entire episode that has me sobbing)
5. My Fallen Idol - Scrubs (the silence of the usually verbal Perry Cox throughout this only makes the ending even more powerful, imo)
6. Bed, Bath, and Beyond - Will & Grace (will always be my favorite episode of the whole show, for showing such realism for a wacky sitcom)
7. Rooms with a View - Frasier (proof that 10 seasons in, it could still bring something big to the table)
8. I Don't Remember Mama - Nanny Fine (the first time we realize what it means that Maxwell is a single father, just heartbreaking)
9. A Day in May - Frasier (what can I say? Again, the use of realism in a genre that rarely shows it is a powerful thing)
10. Mom's the Word - The Nanny (that Fran goes through this whole thing without Maxwell knowing anything about it is just depressing as hell)

In making this list, I was amazed to find how few sitcoms I've actually seen (and that in 10 seasons Friends never made me cry once!).
