"You're Welcome" Buffy?

A few years ago someone told me that "You're Welcome" was originally intended to be about Buffy instead of Cordelia, but because Sarah was busy filming The Grudge Charisma was called in as a last minute replacement. Does anyone know how legitamate this is? If it is, in fact, true, is the original shooting script that includes Buffy available anywhere online? I would love to read it.
 
No, I don't think so. Every scenes in You're Welcome was for only Cordelia. I mean, I don't know if they have other script. If so, it might be a completely different one.

But again, I think Ats needed this episode to make Cordelia's beautiful exit after all what happened to Cordy(and Charisma) in S4. I believe their first plan of this episode was and still about Cordy.

Anyway, I think Sarah intended to be in episodes, like, Soul Propose(in Angel's dream) or Damage. 🙂

Wait, I'm confused. The episode was about Cordelia "coming back from the dead" to get Angel back on track, back to his mission. I'm not clear how Buffy fits into that. Are you saying that the orginal plan was for Cordy to never wake up and for Buffy to come up from Sunnydale and talk to Angel?

That's really strange. I like the idea of Cordy having that one last talk with Angel, and of course thier kiss! Us Cangels need something, right? It's not like Angel and Buffy didn't have their "moment" in 'Chosen.'
 
I preferred to see Cordelia in season 5, than having Buffy come back. I think Cordelia was much more important in the end, although it would have been good to see a wee appearance of SMG in Soul Purpose. Especially that scene in the bed with Spike, it looks so silly with the double hiding her face.
 
I wish SMG would have been more cooperative with doing crossovers. It would have made the Buffyverse so much better in some episodes...
I do think "You're Welcome" was supposed to all about Cordelia. I can't imagine how Buffy would have fit into that situation, and the ending was about as heartwrenching as you could get where Cordelia was concerned. Awww. 🙁
 
I think even if it was for Buffy that Joss would have brought Cordy back in another episode, dont he would leave a main character like that! Charisma looks gorgeous in this episode!

I agree; Charisma never looked better than in this ep, IMO.
That episode was made for Cordelia. It fitted in with what went on before, her in the coma, then visiting angel to see him one last time.

How could Buffy have topped that one. Besides Cordelia was dying to see him.........
 
I tend to think that Cordelia being a last minute replacement is a bit of a myth. Check out this video from Comic Con in which CC discusses the role and that episode in particular. it's very revealing (from about the 5 minute mark):

I have read somewhere that SMG was supposed to be in that episode,that Joss wanted her to be,but she couldn't due to schedule things...anyway...to me it would be wonderful to see Buffy stepping in...especially after Damage where i think by sending the slayers she clearly showed that she lost her trust in Angel...that was harsh for me...
Anyway,i have to say that the way they did that episode it was really,amazingly beautiful!!!Cordy is back...and she kicks ASS!!!verbally and physically!!!She had one last thing to ask from the PTB and she asked to see Angel again and remind him of his true purpose!It's so beautiful,i had tears in my eyes in the last scene...Cordy saying goodbye,Angel crying when he heard that Cordy was dead from the phone...my GOD!!!i need a tissue!I can see that the episode was truly great even without Buffy(although i would really love to see an alternate version)
 
Well, if that is at all true (I thought that SMG was supposed to be in Not Fade Away, not You're Welcome? Maybe I'm just getting everything totally confused there), I'm glad she was busy. As a die-hard Cangel fan, I don't think I'd have much liked it if it was a Buffy-oriented episode, as a pose to Cordy.

And, if this episode hadn't been about Cordy, they wouldn't really have had a chance to explain what happened to her, it would just be...'She's in a coma', she'd never wake up and never be dead. The episode is probably my favourite Angel episode, and is just perfect for Cordy and Angel. <3

If YOU were Sarah Michelle Gellar, would you take time out of your schedule to do ANOTHER love scene with Spike?

Well, many of you would. But can you see how she might view it as degrading?

It would have been a threesome Angel/Buffy/Spike and the resolution to the triangle. I bet millions of fans would pay an enormous amount of money to see that.

No more silly that the Bangel kiss in Chosen done by Sarah's stunt double, cause Joss wanted a continuous shot to Spike and First Evil as Buffy, who actually was facing the camera.

It didn't resolve anything, it was a dream sequence. And regardless of how much people would pay, SMG doesn't seem like the type of actress to come back for a guest appearance just to get f--ked

If you say so, I'm not very familiar with SMG's preferences on set, but Angel dreaming on a threesome, Buffy dreamed of a threesome, Spike will join for sure, and they will fight/f*** together happily after.

I'm a die-hard Bangel shipper and I'm not really for Cangel, but seriously, I'm glad it was Cordy and not Buffy.
Cordy needed to come back one last time before she was gone for good,
and I'm absolutely IN LOVE with the way she went out.
It would be too hard if Buffy was in the mix. I mean, she'd have to deal with having found out about Spike, talking to Angel about Wolfram & Hart, meeting Angel's friends, and then IF it was originally intended to have both Cordy and Buffy, then she'd probably find out about Cordy and Angel being in love too, which wouldn't go very well. lol

In the end, I'm glad it was Cordy.
 
Even if they had planned to bring Cordy back for a different episode (so we still would have gotten to see her) I still think I would have hated if they'd focused Angel's 100th episode on Buffy or Bangel/Spuffy. That just shouldn't be what it's about. AtS had developed into its own show and didn't need BtVS crossovers to support it anymore, like in S1. IMO, if we had heard that we were getting to see our precious Buffy again after BtVS had ended then that would have been what was focused on, rather than celebrating how AtS had come to stand on its own, apart from its roots.

Also, a lot of fans (myself included) were upset about how they handled Evil!Cordy in S4, so I think making her goodbye episode the 100th was a great way of honoring the character and the fans who loved her.
 
Personally, I am glad that Cordelia was in this episode. It would have been a shame for such a vibrant and forceful character to go out the way she finished season four.
 
There were elements of YW that made me think of Buffy instead of Cordelia. When she took that red sword off the wall it felt very much like a Buffy moment (Cordy barely started training in S3 and then was posessed almost all of S4, there was a scene in S4 when Connor is talking to "amnesia" Cordy hands her a weapon thinking she will feel something from it, that felt like a "Buffy" thing too since in Bargainning #2 & Tabula Rasa she was still instinctively a warrior). The fact that it was just Cordelia fighting alongside Angel and Spike. That is something that the fans wanted to see again with Buffy ever since Lovers Walk.

You could tell that the writers wanted to undo the damage of C/A and the destruction of Cordelia's character. In order to fit with Angel and to further the seasonal plots Cordy was turned part-demon, had her hair dyed blonde, started doing Thai Chi with Angel, and a lot of her tactlessness (which would have come in handy to realize she was being massively tricked by Skip to be a vessel for Jasmine and then a baby incubator) was gone. Angel actually believed she became a "higher power" and was doing good in the "higher realms" and when she came back he didn't know she was posessed for months, that the thing posessing her was the Big Bad of the season. Her body ended up having to have sex with his son and gave birth to his granddaughter.

By Your Welcome, Cordelia Chase had actually been gone for about 20 months.
