There is no deep cover story for Tony. Remember he was a mercenary after his wife died and committed acts of treason that made him a wanted man.
I would bet if he didn't hear about a cannister of the nerve agent was in play he would have gone into the FBI with Larry and spilled the beans on the new bad guy.
 
I know he did questionable things between season five and season 7, but his wife dying just isn't a good enough explanation for one of the more heroic characters to be behind a major attack on the U.S., in my opinion. I'd heard he was supposed to be "Evil Tony" before the season even began, and was relieved that they hadn't made him a full-fledged bad guy. A shade of grey is interesting. Making one of the good guys a terrorist/villian seven years into the show is just soap opera cheesy to me. So I prefer to think they might have another surprise in store. One that isn't so incredibly lame.

Start spreading the news: Jack Bauer will be saving the world from New York City on the next season of " 24."

The FOX series, which left Los Angeles (on screen, anyway) for Washington this season, will set its eighth season in New York, EW.com reports. The new season is set to begin filming in late spring and thus will have a significant portion of the production behind it when it hits the air in January 2010.

As has been the case for much of this D.C.-set season, "24" will actually do most of its filming at its Los Angeles home base. It's expected, though, that Kiefer Sutherland and the crew will take a field trip or two to New York to shoot some scenes.

Season eight will also feature "Slumdog Millionaire" star Anil Kapoor as a Middle Eastern leader who comes to the United States on a peace mission. EW also reports that Jack and Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) will be working at a reconstituted CTU.

There's no word yet on who will be leading the unit, or which other regulars from the current season will return.

CTU's coming back and that Chloe will be there. She needs a lot more screen time next season.Wouldn't mind if Renee were around somehow too. Seems doubtful though.
 
Oh how sweet was that when Jack yelled at Jannis? People are dying and your worried about civil rights? Civil rights apply to domestic violence etc but when your country is under attack and you worry about civil rights well they are going to disappear. The President's daughter sure is on bitter, revenge seeking person isn't she?
There hasn't been a lot of posts lately but damn the last few episodes have been really good and I can't believe how many bad guy's this season has gone thru. I'm really curious if Tony is going to be killed by Jack or someone else before they realise he is deep undercover by himself with no one knowing.
And when in the hell is that lazy grand-daughter of Jack's going to pony up some stem cells for the vaccine to cure her Grandad!?!?!?
 
Meh. I really haven't been too thrilled with the evil Tony storyline. Just seems really cliche and lazy, like something they threw in to try to be shocking because they were out of creative gas. The show continues to be entertaining (which at least puts in well above season 6) but right now I'd place it near Heroes in terms of quality and at one point I'd have ranked 24 in the top tier of television shows. Now it's a total guilty pleasure, at best.

Wait, am i missing something? Or is that just your theory?

I was doing other stuff while watching last weeks episode so i could have missed it..did he show some sign of being a double double agent?

If he did, I sure missed it too. I admit, I want Tony to be good but some of the things just don't add up. Or maybe he just didn't trust Jack, Bill and Chloe for some reason. But with only 3 episodes left it feels like it'll go way too fast for Jack and FBI to get a hold of all the "secret" people so I only see a few solutions. Either Tony is a double double agent but at this point that would surprise me even if that's what I would like to see happen. Killing Moss and all others "just" to get to the real bad guys is way worse than Jack torturing a lot of people. Or it'll end with Jack killing/catching Tony in the last episode and next season might be about the hunt for the other bad guys. Not the only solutions of course.

Yea, he's needlessly killed too many FBI agents to be good. I dont really understand his motivation for destroying all the other chemical weapons though, only to have the plan of getting a small weapon and taking 6 months to get a big supply.

If there end goal was to destroy a few cities to 'wake America up', well then, not destroying the base would have done that! They were 5 seconds away from launching if it wasn't for Tony.

Yeah, that's what not make sense. It must be more than that. Ok, tv shows aren't always logical I know that but still. Seems too "stupid".

Unless his goal is somehow seek revenge in the people who he blames for a) Michelles death and/or b) responsible for Logans "detention".
Tony has done all of this because of what happened to Michelle and him.

I see a fire fight in the final episode where Jack and Tony argue this with in important character tied between them and Jack having to choose between letting them die and killing Tony - and Tony biting that bullet.

And he had that 'coy' look on his face when he told the woman now is the time to attack. And who knows maybe he is working for someone like a former CTU division head who was once married to Bill Buchanan but she went on to a political career instead.

Its possible, but to be honest, I think we'd have seen that by now.

I think that the "I could of killed you but didn't" line will be used in the final show down and as much as it will tear Jack up, he's still gonna have to kill him - I have said this for a while now, but after everything Tony has done, I can't see him surviving - good guy or not.

I also imagine the cliche Tony dying in Jacks arms and there being a moment that their friendship is renewed because Jack understands that everything that has been done by Tony was because of the loss he feels for Michelle, because Jack felt the same when Terri died, but he didn't go down that route.

If you DON'T think 24 will be that cliche, all I will say is - Tony Almeidas recent story!

So it picked up a lite speed again. And how surprising that Kim would be used to force Jack to do something... But it'll be a bit interesting to see how things work out and if more people (we "care" about) are gonna die and if so who.
 
This most recent episode was pretty predictable. I was able to guess the people Kim was talking to were going to be working for Tony's group from the second the woman said there was another play to free Tony. I also can't say I was surprised at all when Aaron didn't buy Olivia Taylor's story. The episode was entertaining but still sort of meh....
 
I think the last few episodes have been predictable but the final 2 hours are going to finish this story and possibly setup for day 8...bringing down the group of conspirotors that have caused havoc in America for the last 3/4 seasons. Which leads me to speculate that because Jacks father and brother were part of this group there is explicit orders not to kill him. This group thinks he is more of an asset then a problem now and because he has been on trial by the feds he may turn.
Oh and sorry Edmund but Kim is back, only to ruin your day. Oh well look at the bright side of this last time I checked there's no mountain lions in airports, lol.

I will be so pleased if Will Patton is next seasons villain - he is one of my favourite actors...if he teamed up with William H. Macy it would awesome!

I quite like that its been one cliche after another. When I buy the DVD and sit down and inevitably watch the full season in less than a day, I'll be happy for this final calm before the oncoming storm!

Kim hasn't been as insufferable as seasons 1, 2 and 3 plus little cameo in season 5(was it 5 or 6?) so no harm, but shock horror, she might be the hostage - thats it, play to the characters strengths!

Some of you guys know how much I adore Chloe, she is my favourite character, but I was actually pleased that Janis got one up on her. I mean OK, Chloe is the best, but Janis didn't get to the position she is in by being absolutely rubbish.

I wouldn't mind Janis being in day 8.

I 100% hope that we have Morris back next season though, he really grew on me and this season has been good when on screen.

Macy and Patton!?!? Ohhh shivers. With a cameo of Chris Walken...one moment please, ahhhhh just where did I leave those kleenex.
Actually I didn't like Janis getting one up on Chloe but I so loved Chloe shooting her down looking for a compliment...perhaps a quest of Janis' for next season???
It could be interesting putting Morris between them some humor and definitely tension.
But I would like to see Renee in season 8 because she finally gets it.
And I think it's time Jack had a secret service detail. I think Aaron might be available.
 
Gotta say, after a great season, that was a pretty limp end!

We pretty much pieced together how it was going to end, the only thing was that Tony survived!

I knew it was all gonna be because of Michelle.

I do wish we'd had THAT Kim from season 2 - I really quite liked her.

I will be annoyed if that is the last we see of Patton. His character did hardly anything and he is such a great actor and potentially a great character.

I could see him manipulating next season from behind bars.

I definitely see Renee losing her job with the bureau, so relocating to NYC to work for, maybe even head, the New CTU.

I really hope we have President Taylor back next season too, she was a great President.

So, next season, characters I want to see:-

Jack
Renee
Taylor (without that drippy husband)
Chloe
Morris
Janis
Wilson
and shock horror - THAT Kim Bauer!
 
I definatly see next season as being more of an extension of this one (more than any other season before it). More than ever, the season has been left open. Now 24's a pretty smart show so they could easily skip a few months and make it work...but why set up so many interesting characters in the final acts?

Patton...
An entirely new darker Renee Walker?

I thought it was a weak effort for a finale...yet strangely im more excited to see its next (and final) season more than ever. They are a smart bunch those 24 writers.
