Help Alcohol- "Ignorance is No Excuse"

Hi guys. 🙂 So, long story short, I'm being forced to make a poster that portrays how, in regards to alcohol, ignorance is no excuse (School project since it's Alcohol Awareness Month). The problem? I have zero ideas. :embarrassed: So I was just wondering if you guys could expand some of your creativity to me. Thanks to anybody that can help. :biggrin3:
 
It all depends on what kind of message you think you want to send. What exactly is ignorance not an excuse for? I think that's where you need to start.

I'm tee-total, so if you ever want help from that angle, you know where I am!

Yeah, that's where I get confused, too. Ignorance for WHAT? I think that it means being ignorant to the damage that alcohol causes, like, an alcoholic saying that it's not their fault, they didn't realize blah blah blah (insert something here). I think. After all, it is Alcohol awareness month.

This is also supposed to be about why underage drinking is bad, just so you guys know, like, the dangers of it and stuff. 🙂 And how a lot of underage drinkers are either unaware or don't care about the dangers, but that's still not an excuse.

I have all the info, but I just can't seem to think of a catchy phrase or pic, which is pretty much the whole point. :biggrin3:

It's a good thought, although I'm not sure how many underage kids drive. 🙂

I'm thinking of things like liver cancer, addiction, crimes that result in jail/fines, and loss of inhibitions in a public as themes, perhaps... Then we can have the alcoholic say "But I didn't know the risks! I'm only 14!" And then some old person can say "Ignorance is no excuse! Juvie for you!" Or something. :tongue3:

Oh, now I have billions of ideas (Which is another problem...), but I can't yet think of one that would be convincing, short, intelligent, and just good. I'm sure that I'd come up with something really witty in time, but it always helps to have some fresh brains. 😀

Lots of underage kids drive. Drinking age is 21. I had my license at 16. What's the age for that now?
You could try something with two guys in a drunken fight, maybe it gets out of hand, one of 'em gets killed, and other lands in jail. The image could be of one of the lads in a jail cell, the body of the guy he was fighting at his feet, and text like 'I didn't mean to drink so much' or something that sounds less lame, lol.

Haha, if I was writing a story then that would definitely work (And this would be much easier, I like writing), but, unfortunately, I have to fit everything on a little 11x17 poster board... 🙁 So that might be too detailed. 😀 It should probably be pretty direct and straight to the point.

Hm. I suck at drawings. (sw) Still, this is so vague and wide opened, I could do anything as long as it reflects the theme...

Perhaps quoting the assignment will help: "The poster should be no larger than 11x17, creative and catchy with a picture or phrase or both."

So either one will work, a phrase or a picture.
 
Maybe you could take a picture of somebody with alcohol poisoning, being picked up by the ambulance?

Hm, alcohol overdose, can cause death... Hm, maybe being surrounded by beer bottles, while his friends ran away? Hm. 😀
 
Right. I'm no queen of the catchy phrases. I'll give you a little fact though, in case you don't already know: Alcohol is a mood enhancer. In other words, it cannot be given the blame - or the honour - of making us feel good or bad. This also goes for our impulses. Therefore "but I was drunk" is never a valid excuse.

Yep, alcohol is a depressant, and it strips you of your inhibitions. Still, it's your own choice to get drunk by having too many, so obviously you only have yourself to blame...
 
Well i dont know if you can draw or design..but what about a picture of kids hanging out..then the next pic of a group of skeletons hanging out with drinks thinking they look cool..maybe in sunglasses and sports jackets or something..then you could put the saying on top "which is cooler" lol i don't know

Haha, actually, I like that idea. 🙂 Granted, I probably won't do that exactly, but maybe draw a picture showing what alcohol does to your insides?

Some of them do. 🙂 Most of them don't, though.
 
If your going for younger teens maybe you could do a text message on the screen of a Phone, saying something embarrassing, with bad spelling (drunk texting)

And then below you could come up with a slogan like, 'be aware of what your doing, don't regret what you say. Ignorance of Alcohol is no excuse'
 
I dont remember the cat's name, high school football player (real football not kick a ball around football) who was getting a scholarship to go to Notre Dame got pissed down in Florida on spring break and was mocking people when he fell off the balcony to his death.. this happend this week. If you want some current headlines and something fresh to drive the point home of the dangers. Sorry I dont know his name but that is what google is for!

Could have like an empty hotel balcony and the number of underage drinkers involved in fatal or near fatal accidents.. etc etc

Hm, good idea, I'll definitely try and find a way to incorporate a cell phone into the picture, preferably with something either embarrassing on it or laughing about being drunk and being so much cooler than so-and-so... Something like that. 😀

possibly..that could work but then where does ignorance come in....i don't know its been a long time since i had a project like that..i remember i drew Tony the Tiger on drugs before for my sisters project lol

Ignorance comes in because they're being ignorant of the negative effects of alcohol. 🙂
