I think Harmony begs to differ.

But he wouldn't let Fred die to sleep with Harmony.

I think this episode is more about making us feel sorry for Spike than thinking too much about his personality or his history.

Holtz was the most effective big bad of Angel. He hurt him more than any W&H person ever did.

Kate was great and her presence made the show more noir than fantasy and that was awesome!

Spike and Angel always bickering got tiresome in S5. They are vampires with soul they should be able to evolve beyond that.

Gunn wasn't the most undevelopped character, Lorne was.

Fred and Gunn should have stayed together and the reason they broke-up was contrived.

Exactly, that why I think he is mostly underrated! And you can't even hate the guy because of what Angelus and Darla did to him!

Lorne and Doyle were boring and I seriously could do without them.

Damage was one of the worst episodes ever.

Harmony was a FABULOUS addition to S5.

Darla shouldn't have died when giving birth to Connor. We should've seen the two vampires trying to be parents to a baby.

The grown up Connor arc never should've happened.

Cordelia should've been killed off sooner to avoid the character assassination.

Oh man. i sorta wish I hadn't read this... Angel and Darla trying to raise a human child... wow. I think I feel a story... a very twisted story... coming on.

- I like Wesleys relationship with Lilah more than any other on Angel and would have liked to seen it develop more along with her character in general. Much like Tess Mercer on Smallville I think seeing her fully getting Redemption and becoming a trusted member of the team would have been great for both her and the team. Especially when they start working at the law firm.

- Which brings me to my next thought. I liked the move to Wolf-Ram Hart building, Hated how Buffy and the Scoobies turned their backs on them simply for working exploring that option.

- Don't know if this is unpopular but I think Faith was much better on Angel than she ever was on Buffy. Would have liked to seen her become a main stay on there.

- Would have liked to seen more Gwen, and to see her and Guns relationship go some where.

- I agree with the person who mentioned the Spike and Fred relationship earlier in this topic. Never thought about them being a couple before but it makes sense to me if the writers went with it at the right time. Heck Spike and Illiyria had great chemistry to so it would have been great either way imo.

- Nina and Angel definitely had a lot of potential as others said here.

- Jhiera (She) is another character I would have liked to seen more of. Bai Ling is nice to look at in general, but the character had so much potential left unexplored.

- Would have liked to seen Harmony get a better role on either Buffy or Angel. Preferably Buffy but either way I think the actress would have been great at being more than just the comic relief character.

- Sahjhan was a pretty likable villain who I found quite funny throughout his appearances.

• By season five, I was completely over Buffy and Angel as a couple and over Spike and Buffy as a couple. For me, the original series kind of already ended their respective relationships with each other and I didn't feel like there was anything to go back to. Thus, episode like The Girl In Question where they reheat the love triangle in some ways didn't work for me at all. Buffy deserved to move on and find someone new.

• Lilah should not have been killed. She should have become an involuntary member of Team Angel. Her relationship with Wesley was interesting and they were just starting to flesh her out and I would have liked to know more about where she came from. Additionally, I hated how her escape from Angelus before she gets killed mirrors Jenny Calender's death and to be killed by Non-Cordelia in a moment that is only designed for shock value is such an ungrateful exit. All the other deaths were such graceful exits for the characters and gave them one last moment to shine, this was only about the Cordelia reveal.

• I think Angel really only comes into its own as a TV show in season three, when they finally built a decent-sized gang around Angel. Seasons 1-2 have their moments too, but the group dynamic really took off with the addition of Fred.

• I like the submarine episode. I thought I wouldn't like it, because it looked like such a dumb MOTW episode, but I genuinely like everything that they play with in this episode and the idea of the sired vampire who cannot find peace as he was sired by a vampire with a soul.

• This is not unpopular, but I wish they had kept Gwen on either as recurring or a series regular. I think she had great chemistry with everyone that she interacted with and the way in which she owned her sexuality kind of added something.

• What ruined Cordelia is her romance with Angel. Cordelia being possessed was okay-ish. Kind of icky with Connor and sucked the life out of her, but it was an okay-storyline as it brought on the drama. What ruined Cordelia was the romance part, because it doomed her. Angel cannot be in a happy relationship, thus Cordelia was doomed to not be long for this world the minute Angel fell in love with her.

• Angel's best love interest was Darla.

• I think Drusilla became kind of one-note after season two of Buffy. It was fun seeing her sire Darla in Angel, but ultimately I think she never really added that much to the Buffyverse once she and Spike broke up, since she never grew or developed.

• I really like the song that Lorne's client sang in the hotel garden in "Sleep Tight" and wish I could own it.

- I hate the term 'Champion' when it suddenly pops up in S4. I just about find it the worst aspect of this season (just say 'hero' already, or badass. 'We need out total badass' said Wesley) because where I live, Yorkshire, 'champion' is casually used when something is good 'ooh, that's champion that is'; its stupid then and its stupid on the show. It bugs me intensely. It's like AtS is suddenly channeling Wallace & Gromit.

- After re-watching S1 I find that Cordelia/Doyle doesn't really convince from Cordelia's side of things. In fact I'm not really convinced by any of her romantic scenes except the ones with Xander. Cander for life!! and Cordy perhaps should've either stayed on Buffy or never have been given a romantic interest on AtS. Then could've just had her be the female Lorne or something.

- Or maybe her and Wesley? I didn't exactly hate than during Buffy S3, they could've rekindled after maturing and getting to know each other/working along side. That would've saved Fred/Gunn and Cangel would've never have happened...Cesley? Wesdelia?

- Angel and Spike's fight in 'Destiny' ain't that good (I compared it to Angel/Penn and that one was way better), and its utterly weird how all of a sudden these two vampires bleeding all over each other when they've both been in worse fights and come out relatively unscathed... #tryingtoohard
Also steel rebars don't make little metallic 'ting ting' noises when they clash lol.

Since there are hardly any stakes, it is hard to tell if this some more genuine altruism or just Spike's old martyr-complex.

I was gonna disagree because Spike only acts like a martyr when it can be appreciated by a lady- usually Buffy- but then I remembered that Fred was there, so you're probably right.
I still like Spike better here that any any other time since S5.

There is only one place where Angel acts as a champion and that is in Angel Season 2 Episode 1, "Judgement". Champion is used for a lot of things now but it is a word with a very specific meaning. A champion is a person chosen to fight on behalf of other people. It came from the time of the Greek and Roman empires when the casualty rate of battles was around 40%. When one group of soldiers fought another group, a lot of people were going to die or be hideously wounded. To prevent this, the two sides came to an agreement. They would each select one warrior, the champion, to fight the opposite army's champion and would agree to abide by the results of the fight. The winners would get to enslave the losers. A lot of people have tried to get the word to morph into other meanings but a champion only faces another champion. If that's not the situation, pick another word.

Angel is actually a person chosen to fight on behalf of other people from Becoming, pt. 1's flashback on. Saying he's the champion of the Powers that Be is, by definition, perfect, literal usage of the word.
