Angel : Unpopular Opinions

I hated when Wesley & Cordelia mocked Bangel, especially since AtS then spent the next two seasons trying to turn Cordy into Buffy and retrace Bangel's footsteps with Cangel (possessed by demon lovers, sparring sessions, napping in bed, two PTB warriors, etc).

If they were just going to ruin Frunn and make Fresley the meant to be ship then they should've had Gunn & Cordelia get together in season 2 and Wesley & Fred get together in season 3.

Angel was all "I was trying to save someone's soul. That's what I do here and you're not a part of it" yet the best example on AtS of a saved soul was Anne, who named herself after the woman who rescued her from vampires, slavery in a demon dimension, got her a full time job and place to live, called in to check on her, and helped her find the inner strength to take care of herself which led to her making it her life mission to help the homeless. And a montage of the homeless people from the BtVS episode Anne (when Buffy was back in her hometown of LA working as a depressed grief stricken guilt filled waitress) made it into the AtS credits to show how much more serious the show is and how it's about "helping the hopeless"

“You’re Welcome” = not all that great an episode.

First of all, I think that Cordy should have died at the end of Season 4.

Second, they bring Cordy back and while she looks beautiful I hate the oversexualization of her character. Her wardrobe is overly revealing. It’s not appropriate attire for a law firm to begin with, and it’s unnatural to have her shirt basically half open. She can exude sex appeal without her breasts in my face.

Third, I hate this concept of Angel is lost without Cordelia. He still has his other friends around. Wes, Fred, Gunn, and Lorne are still important significant. I think Wes is always more in tune to Angel than Cordy. He and Fred are just as capable of starring Angel back toward his goals. Why exactly does Angel need Cordy around? To nag him to death? To remind him of his curse? To encourage him to add color to his wardrobe? This artificially created idea that Angel is lost without Cordy has no evidentiary backing. It’s just something the audience is told but now shown.

Fourth, Cordy deserved her own story and journey that was separate and apart from being Angel’s fiend/Crush/muse. And this episode just serves to show that her only operation in the Series was to be there for Angel and for no individual story of her own.

Finally, the kiss. I don’t get this. She was about to walk away and then dramatically she says “screw it one for the road” as if she makes the decision at the last minute. But wasn’t the whole point of her trip to give Angel the vision? So then wasn’t her plan all along for her to kiss him.

Additional loss of points for cheesy lines and a weird Lindsay plot that I never really bought.

I await the shit storm that I undoubtably am going to get for this lol.

I like YW overall, but “I’m Angel. I beat the bad guys.” is sooo cringey to me. Fingernails on chalkboard.

I actually agree with you on everything you said!
I Will Remember You belonged on a soap opera and is completely overrated.

Not Fade Away was the best finale of both shows, hands down. (didn't even know it was an unpopular opinion until I joined here.)

Angel and Nina were a great couple, too bad they didn't get to grow on future seasons.

S1 is lightyears better than S2 or S4.

Doyle is a major villain. When he kissed Cordelia, he condemned her to death. In a city of millions of people, there should have been enough business that they didn't need visions as part of their marketing plan. After all, they had business before they had visions.

The gigantic, towering disconnect between Wesley in Buffy and Wesley in Angel makes me wonder why they just didn't bring in a different character. Every time I see Wesley I keep remembering the line from Giles: "You have all the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone." So the blueberry scone is now being sold to us as a badass. Nope. Not buying it. He had kissed Cordy on Buffy and ... nothing. It was like mixing argon and neon, noble gases that do not react with anything.

Cordy has the same reaction to the kiss from Angel on Ats that she had with Wesley on BtVS. Nothing there. Even the same licking of lips and "well that wasn't much" expression on Cordy's part. This was the big romance they were pushing at us? Un-kaching. No sale.

Angel killing Drogyn was like street gangs where you have to kill someone to join. Angel thought he could run W&H without losing his soul and found that his character had a rise and a fall where he set in motion the fall of L.A., just as Buffy had been the general in Season 3 of her own show and a lovestruck ditz by Season 7.

Jasmine was one of the most well though-out villians in either series. She embodied all the characteristics of the Anti-Christ including popularity, the ability to persuade large numbers of people, the ability to right longstanding wrongs but with a dark side of consumption of people and removal of the capability of individual thought, a common theme along with the "mind-wipe" that happened in BtVS and other parts of Ats.
 
I love lawyer Gunn.

Inside Out is a fantastic episode despite how terrible the arc that follows is.

Angel's vengeance wrath on Wesley was not justified, considering the circumstances.
 
I don't like Angel as a main character. I get annoyed easily with his personality and liked him much more as a side character than the main focus. That's actually why it took me so long to watch Angel all the way through.
 
Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not but I’m gonna go ahead and throw out there that while I think Julie Benz is beautiful I hate her hair. It’s thin and stringy.

Agreed. That's why I like to think Cordelia is actually the main character, it works better that way S1-3
 
The Pylea arc is garbage outside of Princess!Cordy and the Lorne scenes, but the Pylea arc is overall boring.

I like the Pylea arc well enough, though saying I adore it is perhaps strong...and yet as someone fascinated with parallel worlds and alien worlds I can't help but be fascinated by it, which causes me to pick it apart, which is fun, but the views I take from it can affect how I see the rest of the series (Buffy as well) for better and worse.

I also liked seeing Lorne's family, but then I'm fond of Lorne.

I thought it was a fan favorite and considered one of the best Angel season finale arcs.
