Angel : Unpopular Opinions

Ah well I guess he wanted an early renewal every year so he could plan out the next year for a while

I don't like Cangel because it felt forced rather than natural, and Cordelia turning Groo into Angel's twin was just awkward as hell and made me feel sorry for the Groo, and for a supposed demon Groo managed to leave with a lot more grace, class, and even forgiveness than most humans would've if put in his place. And Cordelia should be more self-aware and honest than she was, given that's how Cordelia is normally portrayed, for better and worse (even when she hated herself for being attracted to Xander, she didn't deny the attraction was there). And that's just the story elements, the behind the scenes issues with Joss and Charisma make it so much worse for me. Being a "Bangel fan" has nothing to do with it--because I'm not a Bangel fan, though it doesn't usually bother me (hell, what I do like best of Bangel is it leading to the Angelus arc in season 2--because I want horror, not romance).

If Cangel were done differently then I probably could've gotten behind it.

I respect that! <3
Cordelia turning Groo into Angel's twin
That was horribly sitcom-y! Yuck!

But I kinda loved Groo - dunno if that's an unpopular opinion. I have a soft spot for him. He was sweet and funny and loyal like a puppy. And he said things like 'it is always an honour to make sex with you' with such sincerity. If only more men were so gracious 😛

And Cordelia was able to be honest with herself about her attraction to Angel in season 1 Buffy.

And she also showed such appreciation for Groo for his own sake in Pylea.

If they wanted to go Cangel then they should've made it match the characters, not force Cangel to be a cheap Bangel knockoff.

I think Cordelia just had a lot of love in her heart. But I get what your saying.
Cangel in Waiting In The Wings & You're Welcome is my fav kind of Cangel.

I have a huge soft spot for Groo too, not sure if I was alone on that as well. I hated the way he was treated in Season 3. It was very sad. He was really looking for love and Cordy should not have strung him along knowing how he felt about her if she wasn't feeling the love. 🙁

I love Groo, too! "'Sunburst splendor' is a hue more
worthy of a champion."
Whenever I read someone say as fact that if SMG had guested in AtS s5 Spike & Buffy would've gone off into the sunset together, I'm just like, You do remember BtVS ended because she hated Spuffy so much she quit/didn't-renew-her-contract? There's no way she would have returned to portraying Buffy Summers and on Angel's spinoff just to make Spuffy endgame.

SMG said during filming for the handclasp "I love you" scene in Chosen, she told Joss something like, "If you think we got it, can we just move on? I don't know what Buffy is supposed to be feeling right now."

Do you have a source for that? I wanna read it!

That's just simply not true. She hated the way her character was so depressed in season 6 and Spuffy was a part of that, but she and Joss have said that he promised her to redeem everything in season 7 and she was proud he kept that promise. She quit because of the tireless hours, the fact that she believed the show had reached its conclusion, and because she wanted to move on and spend more time with her new husband.

Yeah but I also think there is a part of truth in what @crazysoulless said. I think Sarah was tired of her role of Buffy and she didn't enjoy playing the character and Spuffy was a part of the development she disliked on the character

Perhaps, but again, we're still talking about season 6 here. She has not stated any terrible problems with season 7 that I can remember, and that would include Spuffy developments in that season.

I guess we will never really know unless someone link an Interview with Sarah which will give more informations but even with that I won't take what she said seriously because I don't think she honestly said what she think probably being afraid of the fans's reactions !

Didn't Alyson Hannigan once say that SMG began to hate doing the show in Season 3 because is was so much hard work and SMG was 'annoyed' with the show?
