I do agree with the idea that Buffy is an amazing fighter when she's angry. Honestly I don't think hardly anyone that we've seen could stop a pissed off Buffy. She took Angel down in Becoming, Faith many times in Season 3, Spike down in Season 4, and she had the best of Caleb in Dirty Girls until Spike pulled her away. Granted Glory could whoop her butt with the flick of a finger, but that is somewhat different.
And Angel has mastered more forms of martial arts. But he's also had some 200 plus years to learn them.

Watched that scene a plenty. Its a great fight. And don't forget that the insane Angelus beat Faith down in Season 4 of Angel. Do yourself a favor......watch one of Angel's best solo fights in Season 2, Episode 11, he's in the sewers, waiting for anything, and several vampires come in bragging about how they killed some people in a restuarant, Angel ambushes them, and his moves, tactics, etc, all happen so fast that if you BLINK you will miss a block, punch, kick, etc. That's just 1 example of when I speak of Angel's speed. I'm not bragging, but I've been into Martial Arts for a good long while, and I know skill/speed vs. flash when I see it, and Angel's skills and speed far out-matches Buffy's skills and speed. And I'm not talking about how many spinning crescent kicks, flying kicks, flip kicks, or back flips that one can perform. I'm talking straight up true skill, and Angel is brilliant when it comes to blocking, dodging and redirection, ESPECIALLY blocking/redirection. Anyone can cleary see that Joss Whedon put much more heart and soul into Angel's fight scenes.
P.S. Just got the Firefly Complete Series in today! Never seen it before, time to watch all episodes and then hit the theatres for Serenity!!!!

She soloed a uber-vamp!
Angel may have the knowlegde of more fighting techniques, but if you noticed, he's vampire days were mainly spent torturing and running from Holtz. It wasn't as though he trained or looked for Slayers to fight, as Spike did.
Buffy would be able to take Angel on, no problem. As long as she never fell in love with him, but even so, she could take him if she had to. She killed him and sent him to hell to save the rest of the world from that same fate.
I think soulless, non-obsessed Spike could take Buffy. As Spike said in the BtVS, Buffy had never fought the REAL Spike and he was able to kill on 3 Slayers.
Spike vs. Angel. I think Spike's emotions had always gotten in the way so Spike had never really gotten a good win. Though, he was able to get it in Angel, kicking Angel's ass for the cup of Moutain Dew.

Buffy killed Angel yes, but never fought him. She fought Angelus before his soul was restored. If Buffy and Angel never knew each other, and it was a fight to the death, or until someone got knocked the hell out, Angel would win
Yes, I agree that soulless, non-obsessed Spike could take Buffy. Hell.....THAT version of Spike LOVES pain, if he's in a fight, he just grins and licks the blood from his face and laugh's his ass off at the pain. As for him beating Angel, I knew that he was gonna beat Angel long before they fought, because Spike took off after that cup without a moment's notice, and we all know that when Spike want's something BAD ENOUGH, he GETS IT!

I'm an Angel person too, but even he's admitted that Buffy's stronger than he is. A couple of times, actually, but the one I can recall right now is in Sanctuary or Five by Five.

Angelus may be a dirtier fighter, but that doesn't make him better. Angelus is too cocky to be a really good fighter. Angel, on the other hand, is cautious enough to totally be able to kick Buffy's ass. She isn't that great of a fighter.

Buffy kicked Angelus ass, not Angel. Anyone should know, Angelus and Angel are two completely different fighters.
When it comes to battling, it's about 10% strength and 90% skill. Angel said to Buffy after she punched him, and he punched her back "Hey not to go all school yard on you, but you hit me first, remember your a little bit stronger than me" When it comes to fighting, strength has barely anything to do with who wins.

Erm speaking as someone who has studied martial arts going on 7 years now I can tell you skill DOES come into play greatly but 10% strength 90% skill? Um no. But hey it's fun to make up percentages. Talking is 80% tongue and 20% lips.
don't mean to crash the party here for all you buffy lovers, and I'm a big fan of buffy myself, however, i was scanning this board and came across this thread, and i'm not a message board junkie and never will be, but i saw this thread, and said "no way" so i had to register and vote. and i hate to break it to you buffy lovers, but buffy is more "flash" than "skill" when it comes to her fighting. angel's abilities far out-match that of the young slayer. and for you guy's who have claimed to be in martial arts for 5 or 7 or whatever years......i've been taking styles that range from aikido, to jeet kune do, tae kwon do, muay thai, and been into the martial arts alone for 24 years. so when it comes to comparing the two fighters, angel is "way" ahead of buffy, and when i say "way" i mean as in light years, ......oh yea and buffy isn't slow, but she sure as hell isnt fast, and as for angel's speed, yea......he's VEERRY fast, comparing his speed to buffy's speed is like comparing a porsche 911 to a toyota celica. i could go on and on, but i've made my point pretty damn clear

If you really had studied martial arts you 'd know better than to bring up the laughable tae kwon do. I think you copied everything you said from a website. I also noticied you said "been into" which is something no one who actually STUDIES it would say. It's an insult to the teachings. Been into? Pfft. Been into and actually studying it is different. Been into can imply you liked watching martial arts movies. Also bringing up the speed once more proves how you're prolly not trained because every Master I've had has been quick to point out that speed isn't the main focus. It's the strength behind the blow. The meditation of will, etc. Everything you say is suspect. Also which DVD series was it 3? They talked about all the martial arts training, etc SMG did. As I recall David did mostly choreography training which is a far cry from actual training. Hell I don't think he even did Wushu. Really people are we going to sit around just making things up here? I think Buffy is better because she has the power of flight.

Yea, Tae Kwon Do is laughable. Of course, don't flame the guy......he didn't say that Tae Kwon Do was his favorite ya know. And I say "Into".....doesn't mean that I've not TRULY been training for over 5 years. I know of a 5th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan, and has only 1 arm, yet nobody with 2 arms that I've seen can take him, and he say's "Into" every now and then. And no offense to your teachings, but calling someone a "Master" must mean your referring to someone who has passed away. Because there aren't any true "Masters" of the Arts on this earth that are still alive. "Mastering" a style means you can NO LONGER learn anymore.....period. Gichen Funakoshi....the founder of Shotokan Karate-Do said it himself, that a Master is someone who cannot progress any further and has learned all that one can learn. And anyone who studies the arts truthfully knows that there IS NO limit. So if your a "Master" ....then your obviously dead. And your right, speed ISN'T the main focus.....however, in a street fight.....it IS one of the key things to have on your side. Speed is NOT the main focus when your training, cause speed comes in time, speed leads to sloppy form and sloppy form leads to bad kata's. However, when it comes to street fighting, you won't be focusing on form and kata. And about David's fight scenes, I recall his stunt guy Mike Massa saying "David is VERY fast and skilled" in one of the Angel featurettes. You gotta remember, Buffy and Angel both have stunt doubles that does half of their fighting. Still, the main focus of the topic isnt on stunt doubles and so forth. Its on how the character's skills are potrayed. And if you've watched every episode of both shows, then you should be able to clearly see that Angel is much more skilled. Buffy stronger? Yes. Back on the subject of that guy claiming to do the Arts for 24+ years, it doesn't matter if he does or doesn't, don't flame him for stating his honest opinion. I'm not flaming you or anyone also, just wanted to make that clear 🙂

I'd say Buffy. Angel would have a lot of things against him. Sunlight being the most obvious. It's been said before, Buffy uses her surroundings and is creative when she fights. It may be a close fight, but Buffy would win in the end. She's just too good.

While you may not see him as being cautious, I think he's more methodical. He's smarter than Angel with the same strength (same body). To me that means he's the more difficult opponent.
