Well, it's that time...April 1st, the end of the month.
For those of you who don't know, I had decided to ship Bangel and give up my dear Spuffy for month. Why? In an attempt to learn more about this beloved, and what I've come to believe, vastly misunderstood ship. While I'm still as big a Spuffy as ever, I have definitely have a greater grasp on why fans love Bangel so damn much. Let me reflect:
Believe it or not, I think this experience was good for me. I learned a lot, talked to a lot of people about thier opinions, and definitely understand the ship better because of it.
Here are the conclusions I came too while being a Bangel for a month:
* Bangel is/was not "young" or "immature" love. It's not boring, as I've said before. I realized that my insisatance that Bangel was "boring" is incorrect; really, I was struggling for words to describe a ship I simply can/could not get invested in, and until now, was unsure why. I realized my inabilty to be attached to the ship has more to do with that fact that I simply can not relate. I have never experienced any sort of love even close to what Buffy and Angel felt for each other. For me, Spuffy is more relatable, hence why I prefer them. Also, my "Spike fandom eyewear" do color my opinion I admit; he's my favorite character, and I want him happy. He could be happy with her.
* Buffy still loves Angel. She has always loved Angel. Denying that, at this point, would be madness. I do believe that she loved Spike as well, though. Does this make me love Spuffy any less? No. Does it discourage me? Nope. BUT I am admitting it for the first time, really. (Points for that, right?)
* Buffy's fate is to be with Angel. Just because I prefer her with Spike doesn't mean she loved him more than Angel.
* Some Bangel fic is actually - dare I say - good.
Although I do not agree with many of you, I do understand you better.
Thanks for humoring me 🙂
NOW, BACK TO THE SPUFFY CAMP!
