So what are your views on Spuffy and Bangel then? Are you saying Buffy didn't love Angel at 16 or not?
Well, as for the age thing, here's my take on it: You cannot truly love anybody else unless you love yourself. On extension, it's very unlikely that anybody (Besides, of course, your family) will love you if you don't love yourself. Kind of like how I believe that nobody will ever respect you if you don't respect yourself. Like, if you don't love and respect yourself, then why the heck would anybody else? So, really, most young people don't love and understand themselves enough to love anybody else, and are too selfish to completely care about anybody else (Although I'm not too happy with using the word "Selfish" in this case, but hopefully you guys get what I mean. 🙂 ).
So, who knows, maybe Buffy was at a point in her life where she loved and respected herself, and therefore had the ability to love and respect others as well. Some of the writers have said that in the beginning Buffy was the picture of "The complete selfishness of adolescence" but grew (By S7) into a more selfless and community-based person.
So I suppose that it all boils down to opinion. Personally, I found Buffy to be immature. So while she may have loved Angel, I don't believe that it was in any way a mature or developed love, the type of love that one would want in RL. 🙂
Oh God! When woman falls in love she acts and feels like she never did before. It doesn't matter if she's 16, 25 or 40. Buffy was mature for her age. She knew how to handle with big situations and decisions. Buffy lost her head over Angel. Yeah and? It wasn't because she was 16, it was because she was in love. That's the problem with teenagers, society doesn't know who they are. They're not kids, but they're not adults either. They say you're too old for dolls but to young for sex, alcohol and stuff "adults" can do. Heart of a child can love better then heart of a grown up person. Because it's pure, and innocent, it doesn't mix with reason, it's pure love. So say Buffy was a kid, it's ok, because if she was, she loved Angel with her whole heart.
It's not really an insult but to me she is precocious as a Slayer but as far as love is concerned, she's well normal. She doesn't strike as particularly mature in relationship decisions, but before I'm lynched by Bangels, I'd say this extends to Season 6 as well. Using Spike to escape the realities of life isn't exactly the most mature response either. Also her response to jerk Parker was a little naive as well.
I wouldn't even say she's bad in relationships. It's all about the cookie dough. Buffy shouldn't be so hard on herself, but you live, you learn, you grow. But I certainly don't think that Buffy finally 'got it right' Spike or anything.
I'am confident enough to say that Buffy will end up with either Angel or Spike. I can't see her meeting another person that shapes up with the feelings she has for the two vampires she's been in love with. Riley didn't satisfy her, it took a certain type of bad boy to fulfill her needs. Angel and Spike fitted the bill.
