Also the other writers were writers who had discovered the Buffyverse under Whedon's tutelage; people like Kirshner, Fury, and Espenson. They are familiar with Buffy canon, and Joss's vision as communicated from Joss's mouth to their ears.

I haven't read the other books yet, but I'm going to assume they're similar. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I'm not sure it matters, but does anyone know how exactly that anthology was but together? Who picked the writers? Who decided what was going where?

You may be confuse with tale sof the slayer.the comic, "tales of the slayer", was based on the buffyverse, because joos, jane, nd his crew of writers, wrote it.in this comic, he included, a fray comic, just to show the fans what was his next project, which was the fray comics.in the novels, written by buffy fans, they are fanfiction.they are no way related to joss, or mutant enemy, or dark horse comics.books like tales of the vampires, is based on the buffyverse.it's now part of the buffyverse history.it is related to joss, because he and his team of writers wrote it.it is also related to dark horse, so it is part of the history.graphic novels, like the one where xin rong's bros get revenge on spike, are fanfic.they are no way related to joss, anything in the whedonverse.they are just stories from writers, published to the public, becaue they wanna share their ideas, stories, and they wanna sell books to get money.books, are just fanfics fromt he writers, but fans get confused.thinking it's part of the history of buffyverse.only comics, written by joss, jane, or anyone from the two tv shows, is part of the history.don't think those slayers from the novels are real.they are just stories from writers, who want to share their ideas, & stories to the fans.
 
Oh OK, I get it. Tales of the Slayer is an anthology of short stories by Yvonne Navarro, Nancy Holder, Christie Golden, Mel Odom, Doranna Durgin, Greg Rucka. Joss had nothing to do with it. He says he doesn't even read those.

I'm not sure fanfiction is an entirely accurate description however, because they are written for profit, and not simple love of the verse. I agree though, that they wouldn't be part Joss's Buffyverse. They would offer no knowledge to the verse's past, present, or future we as fans don't already have. Any spots where our knowledge differs from alterations they offer would not be authorized by Joss. For example we couldn't say India is a slayer in the Buffyverse, because Joss doesn't even know about her.

Tales of the Slayer"s" however is a graphic novel with Joss Whedon input and Whedon hired, and I'll assume supervised writers. It would be Whedonverse.
 
I'm re-reading The Book of Fours, I love hardback books and got it when it came out, as well as the Spike and Dru book, which is one of my faves, Demon Island and Endangered Species. Another great series, which i'm going to get in the hardback version is The Gatekeeper Trilogy.

A thought I had while scrolling through this thread was that, why don't they continue both the buffy/angel stories in books, at least this way we would have new storylines to look forward to and it would still continue the tradition we have come to love. That way if the actors schedules can't mix, the fans are still happy, although not as happy as new episodes but hey its a start.

I totally agree...plus they can do things in books that special effects can't even allow for on TV
I've just read Endangered Species and I really enjoyed it!!!! All the characters(ok,maybe with the exception of Faith's attitude on the island) were portrayed in a way I'd have done it myself..I absolutely recommend this book+the cover is amazing🙂
 
I have never read the Lost Slayer books...but with what you guys have been saying about it...I feel I MUST check it out....

I also really enjoyed The Immortal...and Pretty Maids All In a Row (probably my favorite Buffyverse book of all time)

But not a fan of Apocalypse memories...which is the most recent book I've read....I just didn't like it for some reason....

Yeah me either..it was like Buffy meets "The Seventh Sign". They used too much religious context. I haven't read The Immortal or Pretty Maids All in a Row, but maybe I'll get them on my next trip to Borders.

The Lost Slayer is my fave book thus far, but I haven't read them all so we'll see.
 
You should definatly read Pretty Maids all In A Row, its one of my faves from the entire books. I think we need another Spike/Dru book. Or one set in the past of Angel/Dru/Spike/Darla. Or even better Wolfram and Hart one, i've been waiting a long time for one of those, not just one where they are mentioned in the Angel novels but an actual one set in Wolfram and Hart *cough* Lindsey *cough*
 
I was just thinking about it and we never saw the fanged four together in the modern day, I say an author should write a good book exploring how they would act if they met up again now, or at some point.

Have been umming and ahhing the script books in stores, then found them on ebay for £1! (okay £4 p&p but still). Shame S2 v3 isn't on there, has Innocence which is super wow.
 
Do you have to really like Spike/Dru to like Pretty Maids??? I'm not so much a Dru fan, but I know a good book when I read one.

I'm not a big fan of Spike/Dru together at all, but I REALLY enjoyed the book....but Spike is my favorite character though...and I do like Dru...

Trying to read Mortal Fear again...I put it down awhile ago, because I didn't like it at all. The character are so out of character, especially Buffy and Dawn, but I have nothing else to read. I must get to a book store soon.
 
I'll probably pick up Pretty Maids my next time I visit the bookstore. For now though I think I'm going to begin reading the Book of Fours again to try to understand it better.
 
Just finished the first book in "The Lost Slayer" (yeah im plodding along). I know it was the setup book, nothing boring per say but I hope it builds up, certainly did towards the end anyway.

Bidding on the script books on ebay. Me wants!

Do not waste your time on Mortal Fear...it's really bad!!! If you want, you can read my review of it at http://www.ybfree.com/32BUFFYP.html It really goes into detail on what's wrong with it. But mostly it's that the bad guy of the book sux, and that the characters are out of character.

I'm still regretting the money I wasted on it.

Don't worry! It gets a lot better...I've never bought any of the script books. I have "Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Philosophy: Fear & Trembling in Sunnydale" which is really good as it takes Buffy to a deeper level.

I was confused by it to a little until I finished it and then it was all clear. But I like it because it had 3 awsome slayers in it; Buffy, Faith, and Kendra. And it was dramatic I didn't want to put it down. And there was lots of stuff going on, with each character.
 
I would have liked to know more about India. They should include her next time they do a tales of the slayers type thing. I just think its weird that Buffy never wonders about her predecessor....come to think of it, I don't think Faith asked about hers either...weird

Yea...you would think they would want to know more about them...They are the reasons why they are the slayer. If I were Buffy I would want to alot more about India...

Hm...she would be interesting to read more about...
