I guess I am a "Whedon Mark". I seem to enjoy Buffy, Angel, Firefly and the comics.
I'm not a freak for the movies, and I don't watch random episodes of things that he writes. But, I prefer to watch things from beginning to end and I'm not going to waste months watching something just to see a few well written episodes.
Although, since Hello Cutie plainly says she watched them when it was on TV, does it not matter that it was all mixed up in a blender before it was put out on TV? That makes it at least a LITTLE harsh to call it rubbish.
If you take Buffy or Angel, mix them up and watch three random episodes, they're gonna stink too.
Just like it's not exactly "fair" to fans to say, "Well, I watched the Buffy movie and three episodes from the show in random order and I don't like it". Even seeing them all in the order they were put out on TV I don't think I would have liked it. I tried it, and it doesn't make sense. That's not Joss's fault nor does it make it a poorly written show. It makes it a show the network butchered.
It's peachy with me if you don't like it. As I said before, I don't like westerns or space-ship sci-fi. But, doesn't make it rubbish. And it doesn't make the people who DO enjoy well written TV with well thought out characters "marks". Nor do they deserve to be treated like their blind, stupid sheep who will follow a person anywhere.
It's entirely different from saying, "EVERY MOVIE Drew Barrymore has ever been in deserved an award for best movie of the year." It's simply saying there are three TV shows written by a man who develops his characters well and doesn't treat his audience as stupid idiots with a bunch of "You don't remember last season when this guy had a drinking problem and that character's birthday was in October and now it's in May" and recasts.
If he suddenly STOPPED doing everything I liked in the other shows, I wouldn't watch.
But, in Firefly, he did it. Just like in Buffy and Angel. Of course, you may actually have to watch the stuff in order. If you don't care what other people think, fine. But, for someone who's never seen it and another person who admits to have never seen it in order (and still not all of them because they weren't all aired)...how about not try and put down the people who have?
