Dawn stood over Anna's desk. She was scrummaging through her personal notes and files. Since she'd found nothing, she switched on the computer to see if she could find anything. It had been really hard to find a way inside the office. Since the center was closed and the doors were locked, Dawn had to open the window with a screw driver she'd purchased at the tool shop up the road. It shocked her to think that she had actually broken into a place; it wasn't like she'd never done anything wrong "“ she used to steal all the time, but this was a lot bigger than any of that. She kept thinking to herself that she'd be sent to jail if she got caught.
Dawn clicked on a folder named "˜Anna.' This looks promising, she thought. She couldn't find anything except for invoices and a few songs by the Black Eyed Peas. Dawn then clicked on Anna's emails. If there was to be anything suss going on, maybe Anna would have something weird in an email. All Dawn could find were a few emails from what sounded like an ex-boyfriend. He was obviously a pain in the ass as there were so many messages begging Anna to get back together with him.
"It's a start," she said aloud, "maybe he's gonna do something about being rejected."
Suddenly, from the other room, flew a ball of light blue energy, slamming right into the computer and knocking it off the desk.
Dawn jumped, startled. She looked across to where it had come from. Right there stood a woman she'd met a few times "“ but she'd heard bad things about her from Willow. It was Amy Maddison.
"Amy?!" she yelled, "What are you doing here?"
Amy just chuckled and raised an eyebrow. "Dawn it's called "“ Maddison Spiritual Service, I own it."
"Oh," began Dawn, "well your receptionist is in trouble, she's going to die!"
Amy laughed again. "So you're the girl from today?" she asked, "heard there was quite a scene."
"Yeah, she didn't believe me. You have to help me save her Amy. I can't do it alone."
Amy rolled her eyes. They began to turn black, like Dawn had seen Willow's turn when Tara had been killed.
"I don't doubt that," began Amy, "it's not like you could do anything anyway."
Dawn began to speak, "but Amy I"¦" but she was cut off. Although Dawn wanted to continue talking, she couldn't. Nothing she was saying was coming out. It was like someone had turned her on mute. Then she looked at Amy staring at her with black eyes. "Be silent." she said, obviously she'd magickally muted Dawn.
Amy was getting angry, "You don't just come and break into somebody's place of employment."
Dawn struggled to speak, but couldn't.
"Don't try talking," began Amy, "it'll make your throat hurt."
Dawn still tried talking again, and began to get a sharp pain in the throat. She clutched at it, breathing heavily.
"As I was saying," muttered Amy, "I don't like any of you scoobies, and I can't think of a better way of getting at your sister then hurting her beloved "˜Dawnie'." She stepped closer to Dawn. They were now only a few metres apart.
Amy raised an arm. "Sorry," she began, "Inpiunte!" she yelled, eyes completely black now. A flash of energy shot out from Amy, heading straight for Dawn, very quickly.
Just before Dawn was devoured by the energy, it stopped, time stopped. A force field formed around Dawn and another woman. She was facing the other way, so Dawn wasn't exactly sure who she way. She wore grey jeans and a Gucci shirt. Dawn noticed the brand new Manolo Blahniks she wore, they were gorgeous.
The woman turned around, her shoulder length hair bounced around like she was starring in a shampoo commercial.
"Hey Dawn," she began, "you look"¦" she looked Dawn up and down, "freaking great!"
Dawn couldn't believe her eyes, firstly because she was just saved and secondly because Cordelia Chase had been her saviour. Cordelia was the woman who'd manifested in Dawn's motel room. She was an old friend of Buffy's and she and Dawn had always gotten along okay. A few years back she left Sunnydale to work with Angel, since then she'd died.
"Cordelia!" she yelled, stunned. "What just happened? How did you do that?"
Cordelia winked and smiled, "neat huh?" she asked.
Dawn just stared, "Yeah in the way that it totally saved my life! What is going on?!" she asked, clueless.
"Hey sweetie slow down," Cordelia began, "It's ok. And did I hear a "˜thank you'?" she asked, half joking.
Dawn took a deep breath, relaxing a little. "Thanks, really."
Cordelia began to talk again, "Dawn, I know what it seems like, but your visions are going to work out, your heading the right way."
"You know what just occurred to me," Dawn began, "You're dead. How are even here if you're dead?" she asked.
Cordelia smiled softly, "Honey when is dead ever really dead in this world? I'm dead but I'm still here. The powers chose me as your guide, for your visions."
"How do you or they even know about my visions?" Dawn asked.
Cordelia raised an eyebrow, "Dawn the visions come from the Powers That Be, you're supposed to help people with them."
Dawn put her hands on her hips, "Yeah," she began, "getting that now. But why you, how do you know about the visions?"
Cordelia giggled, "Dawnie honey, I gave "˜em to you."
Dawn's mouth dropped, this was all too much for her. "You what?" she asked.
"I passed them on to you, I used to have the visions." stated Cordy.
"Oh well thanks a lot!" Dawn said angrily, "These visions have turned my life upside down "“ ALREADY!"
"Dawn," Cordelia began, "You're the one who's destined to have them, I was just a carrier while you were getting ready for them I guess. You have all this power inside you, haven't you ever wondered what you're supposed to do with it?"
"I'm supposed to control demons," Dawn began, "And it's not like my powers even work."
Cordelia was a little annoyed by this comment. "Controlling demons isn't what you're supposed to do, what did you think, you'd use them as servants around the pool?" she asked sarcastically.
Dawn pictured the thought for a moment and giggled. "No," she began, "I guess I thought I'd use it in fights."
"Well consider the visions as a cause for you to fight." said Cordy, now smiling.
Dawn liked the thought of her being able to save people, but then something occurred to her. "I can't use them anyway, Buffy was right "“ my power controls me."
Cordy got a little annoyed by what Dawn was saying. "Well isn't that a Buffy thing to say." she said. "No offense honey, Buffy's a sweet girl, but Dawn, she wasn't right. I know she's your sister but you need to live your life now Dawn, it's your life to live "“ not Buffy's. I can promise you, if you take control of your life, your power will come in full."
Dawn looked to the floor, Cordelia was right, she knew it. "I know," she began, "so what's next then? What do I do?"
Cordelia gave a big smile. "Well I think you're ready," she said. Suddenly, Cordy disappeared and the force field protecting Dawn disappeared.
"Cordy!" yelled Dawn, "No!" Suddenly, a force of power flew through Dawn. It felt like every cell in her body was vibrating. Her skin began to glow.
"Stop!" she yelled, watching the energy about to hit her.
Suddenly, the energy closing in on Dawn (which was now only a few inches from her) stopped. Dawn stepped back and pushed out her hand, forcing Amy's power back at her.
âœWow." she said to herself as she still her felt complete power running through her veins, but it wasn't all being used. There was so much power; Dawn wanted to be able to use all of it. Her powers were actually working, what Cordy had said must've been right.
Amy screamed as the energy engulfed her, then it suddenly teleported her away.
Dawn stumbled a little when the power stopped surging through her. "That was cool."
She looked at where Amy had stood, "I'm not gonna have to worry about her anymore," she said aloud, "and if I do, I'll just trap her in a trophy like her mom." Dawn laughed to herself and escaped through her window. At least it was now over, she thought.
